post up proof that fist size = power
i know someone will bring up lucian bute, but i think that has mroe to do with beautifully countered bodyshots than real ko power
In Boxing with boxing gloves the size of fist isn't much of a factor..
The size of the fist differs really... I would rather have a bigger fist hit me in the jaw than a smaller one, and a smaller fist than a bigger to hit me in the body.
The target of the chin is smaller so the force of the smaller fist will have more meaningful impact and my body is bigger so the distribution of a bigger fist would have more impact.
Then again Its my opinion.
big isnt the right word. its more than size
a more stout sturdy fist that won't break on you is an advantage.
I mean in Karate my trainer told me to hit with one knuckle for max power but obviously in boxing it doesnt apply as u stated, especially due to the gloves but we r talking about fists in the gloves not knuckles so theoreticaly a smaller fist landing square wud equate to more power than a bigger fist basing that on two dudes tht weight the same and have the same bone density etc
gloves don't matter. the shape of the glove is the shape of the first, you have the wrist and then the forward-facing part of the knuckle to strike with. If you can't punch without gloves you can't punch with gloves
punching power has alot to do with snap transfer of kenetic energy.
when you snap your hand back as fast as you threw it.timing and
catching your opponent in rotation creates the one punch ko......
somewhere on a physics forum, they have a link to this thread and they are all laughing about it.
I doubt it, rather I'm sure they would be happy that the general public is taking an interest in their subject.
Whoever the people are saying big fists would be more powerful and dismissing my arguments without any factual basis are stupid... smaller surface area means more power... and people saying about bone density on bigger fists??? the smaller something is the more compact and dense it will be... honestly guys ask any martial artist and they will all say the same thing... you only have to tap urself in the jawbone to find out... first use your whole fist, make sure every finger makes contact with ur jaw... now same power do it but only make contact with your middle knuckle, which hurts more?

Those people are heavy handed but they aren't always the best KO artists.
Let me get my cousin who's working on his master's thesis in physics to get in here and give us a lesson. Maybe I'll recommend him to do some research on this and give us a straight answer.
