Prized boxing trainer Emanuel Steward declared that he wants his ward, Miguel Cotto, to get another shot at "Fighter of the Decade" Manny Pacquiao.
Steward is confident that Cotto will be able to put on a better fight against the Filipino boxing superstar following his technical knockout (TKO) win over Israeli Yuri Foreman on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
“I think he would have much better success and Manny Pacquiao is one of the greatest fighters of all time to me,” Steward told On the Ropes Boxing Radio.
Pacquiao stopped Cotto last November in Las Vegas to take home the World Boxing Organization (WBO), his 7th world title in as many weight classes.
Steward said they have already corrected Cotto's mistake in the Pacquiao bout—fighting too low.
“The punch he got hit with, he said the first time he never saw it. He was down in such a position where he really couldn’t see punches that good at that stage because he was bending too low,” Steward said of his fighter.
Adjusting for Pacquiao's speed
The boxing hall of famer admitted that Cotto had problems with Pacquiao's speed. It “bothered him tremendously,” said Steward.
He said they have brought in a sparring partner for the Foreman bout to adjust Cotto against speedy boxers.
“So I think the fact that he would be better prepared physically with the higher weight and also that he would be better prepared and adjusted to deal with the blazing speed of Pacquiao would give him a definite different odds of winning,” said Steward.
While he said that Cotto has a better chance against Pacquiao, Steward said Pacquiao would still pose a daunting challenge to the Puerto Rican.
“Manny is a great fighter who fights from a rhythm and it is very difficult to anticipate his movement with his feet as well as his hands. He’s a very, very good fighter. He doesn’t just come in with a straightforward type of position. You have to be able to deal with speed as well as power,” he said.
Among the popular boxing champions who trained under Steward were Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield and reigning WBO and International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

well, i guess this is an indication that he's not afraid of rematching i got that taxed his ass.
i don't think the outcome would be any diffrent to be honest, but atleast he's got the balls to try again.
I agree that he could benefit from another tune-up fight under Steward but if the Mayweather/Pacquiao negotiations fall through again and the invitation to fight Pacman again is extended, he should take it because if he doesn't he'll just move on to someone else and the chance never come again because he's not gonna wait around for Cotto to become "ready" to fight him.

if pacquiao loses to floyd maybe.
collect that 8th division belt and go out with a bang?
:dunno:
miguel's face gets busted up too easily now a days.
it's gonna be a tough fight for him to win even at 154. :(
If mayweather balks then have cotto fight Chavez jr and Pac fight someone decent and Cotto vs Pac rematch at Yankee stadium on night before PR parade ($$$$).
manny doesn't have a history of throwing his fighters to the dogs. if he's that confidant in cotto, i'll watch the rematch
I agree.. if steward really thinks that he has a plan for cotto to win then i believe him.. He wont just throw him in there to get his ass whooped again.. that would look bad on him.. Even though i know he knows in the back of his mind that its a big pay day.. I agree with most on this thread about atune up.. but not with Margs.. **** him.. he's a cheater.. JCC Jr. and Spinks will be good for him.. Get the IBF tittle in the process.. Then fight May (if he decides to fight Cotto this time since last time he didnt want to cause he's from Puerto Rico) or a Manny rematch... then retire..
I do agree that cotto fought pacquiao with head down compared to cotto fighting with his head up like before the margarito fight. Also, manny won but he looked like he went through war and heard his ear drums were damaged. Still think that Pac could beat cotto but fight would be closer in points than 1st fight. Rather see cotto vs pac 2 than pac vs marquez or pac vs bruno.
He needs to stay away from Pacquiao until Steward has made Cotto a better fighter, with a better D. another tune up would be good, then a Marg rematch since both fighters could use a chance to show they're still the same guys they were back then.
Cotto needs another tune up like berto someone with speed. It will be a better fight but still dont see him beating pac. Steward better not be looking for a payday and he better ask pac to take the test too.
Alot of the heavy artillery Cotto took was due to his head down come forward game and his porous-defense. A catchweight wont do him any good either..
He should fight Margarito first then we could gauge where he is...Right now its too soon for a Pac rematch..He needs more grooming from Steward.
