Firstly this is not a thread intended to incite a Flomo v Pactard war.:omfg: I am simply giving my opinion on the matter and putting it on the record so ppl know where i stand. I would appreciate some intelligent responses and/or rebuttals (i'm asking alot i know).
IMO....and it's not a popular one on here, Floyd has cherrypicked all his fights after JLC.
at 135 lbs he fought Sosa and Ndou. decent fighters but nothing that would make him an all time 135 lber.
at 140 lbs he fought Corley, Brusseles, and Gatti. Considering 140 lbs was stacked, this was a pretty weak run. Again, nothing floyd has done in this division screams 140 lbs ATG.
at 147 lbs he fought Mitchell, Judah, and Baldomir. Mitchell (who floyd could've beaten at 140 lbs) was a tune up. Judah was a grudge match. Baldomir was for the lineal title. All decent scraps, but the dangerous fights were against margarito and cotto. Again, none of these boxers make floyd an ATG WW.
Then floyd got his dlh payday at 154 lbs. DLH was past his prime but still a good boxer and floyd got a SD. This is what it was all about for floyd, getting the DLH fight.
Instead of fighting the best at WW, floyd calls up hatton, who had previously been chased from 147 lbs by Luis Collazo. This was a good fight... at 140 lbs.
Then floyd retired for 2 years to duck cotto, margo, and mosley, letting them bash their brains in.
Finally returning to boxing, he fought a blown up lightweight JMM and failed to make 144 lbs (the contracted weight).
Next he fought an old 38 year old Mosley. I'm glad Mosley got the payday, but like floyd already said himself: "we know mosley gets tired." (probably because he's 38 years old).
In the past I have excused this cherrypicking because I thought once he got the DLH payday, he'd start fighting who the fans wanted him to fight. Nobody wanted the JMM fight. the hatton fight was best at 140 lbs. the mosley fight should've happened a decade ago.
Now I'm not saying floyd isn't a great fighter or an ATG fighter. I can't deny the skills, but does his resume prove this? I don't know. based on this resume, I can't honestly put him on the level of duran, srl, haggler or hearns.
EXACTLY! that is all i am saying, THEY ALL "CHERRYPICK"! not exactly the Boxers themselves but the people behind them (Promoters, Managers) it is their job to get their fighter the most money possible because the more money the fighter makes, the more money they will make
Exactly. The entire match making system is based on risk vs. reward.
High risk - low reward is not good for fighters. In the case of most boxers including Pac and Floyd, they're careers have been built on low risk - high reward fights.
Like Team Pac doesn't choose fights wisely. LMAO. Pull, like you say Floyd cherry picked after Castillo. I say Roach wisely picked fights for Pac after the first Morales loss.
Some of Pac's wins -
Weight drained Erik Morales (who lost his previous fight to Zahir Raheem at 135 pounds, a weight that Team Roach and Pac refused to fight him at)
Past Prime Barrera who was coming off a loss
David Diaz for lightweight title snatching (Diaz was the worst titlist at the time and many would argue lost to a shot Morales)
Zombie DLH
Chinny Hatton who was overrated and already lost to Floyd by KO
Skinny Cotto (demanded catch weight for title fight, Cotto moves up in weight next fight)
Clottey who didn't deserve the fight and had no chance to win. Clottey's best win is a faded Zab Judah and a bloated Diego Corrales.
Fights Pac didn't take
Marquez rematch - for 4 years Roach and Pac avoided a rematch with Marquez after the initial draw. In that time, Pac had the time to fight the above mentioned weight drained Morales and past prime Barrera who he already beat.
Decent lightweight titlist - Anyone at the time would've been a step up from David Diaz
Mosley - Roach demanded the fight at 142 pounds, knowing that IF Mosley could make the weight, he would be drained. Reasoning: "He's too good"
Yuri Foreman - "He's too tall"
Cotto at 147 - Roach needed those extra 2 pounds to make sure Cotto was not at full strength. Even though Pac had already fought DLH at 147.
I honestly believe that Pac is not behind any of this, so I don't fault him. Roach and Arum have carefully designed this run he's on.
EXACTLY! that is all i am saying, THEY ALL "CHERRYPICK"! not exactly the Boxers themselves but the people behind them (Promoters, Managers) it is their job to get their fighter the most money possible because the more money the fighter makes, the more money they will make
Oscars previous fight was at 150. He was already planning to get down to 147.
and Paul declined the immediate rematch, not Tony.
Don't forget who Pauls advisor is,
the same guy who makes the excuses for Floyd.
ok but in 2008 they offered him $4 Million and Margarito didn't take it, your trying to make it out as if Paul Williams just don't want to fight Margarito and that is not true and yeah your talking about Al Haymon, him and Arum hate each other again that is why a lot of fights never happened in the past especially Margarito vs Mayweather and Cotto vs Mayweather

Manny gets credit for a win over Oscar at 147, and Mayweather gets no credit for a win over Mosley.
You guys are a joke.
EXACTLY! it is just a double standard when it comes to Mayweather
WTF you talking about dumb fuk... I already said that Pac fought at 1 catchweight.. which is the cotto fight.
But your crying ass is the one saying Oscar at WW is a catchweight..
Lets also not forget that Pac had to move up 2 weight classes to make 147 and everyone favored Oscar to win..
Might as well delete your account dumb ****..
you know nothing about boxing..
like I said in the other post, ok maybe I shouldn't call it a catchweight fight but a few of his opponents was DRAINED
delete my account for what? we are discussing boxing you LAME stop taking this shit so serious, this shit means nothing, at the end of the day just a bunch of guys with no faces talking about the sport they love
the reason i think this thread is not generating alot of passion from both sides is because this is a toppic that does not truley effect this bout being made...

Mosley didn't get tired when he was beating up plasterrito.
27 out of 30 Ring Magazine analysts picked Floyd to win the fight. All 27 sited Suger's age and long lay off as the reason they were picking Floyd to win. So no this isn't some magical excuse that suddenly fell from the sky the second Floyde beat Shane.
Damn near half this board was saying Floyd would never fight Shane. Or did conviently forget about that?
no dumbass 145 WAS the catchweight for Cotto vs Pacman so WTF are you talking about
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4653029
"Though the fight will be for a piece of the welterweight title, it is being held at 145 pounds at the insistence of Pacquiao's camp because Cotto is a natural 147-pounder and Pacquiao has fought only once above 140 pounds."
and fighting Oscar at 147 was a catch weight FOR Oscar at that time since he was fighting at 154 for years
your the one that don't know sh*t about boxing

again basically that WAS a catch weight for Oscar since Oscar haven't fought at 147 in YEARS at that time, he agreed to go down in weight become Manny was as smaller guy, OK so maybe I shouldn't say catchweight then, I will say Oscar went down in weight and Drained himself...is that better? that is still giving Manny an advantage
as for Paul Williams turning down Margarito rematch BULLSHIT! here is proof from this very site:
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=15237
once again the BUSINESS OF BOXING, guys love to accuse the Boxers of ducking when it is actually their promoters making the decisions, Dan Goossen offered Margarito $4 Million for the rematch and Arum never replied with a answer, then when he finally did the said he was looking to match Margarito up with the winner of Clottey vs Judah which end up being Cottley
so who is REALLY ducking who? and I have seen him talk about Cotto lately but I haven't heard him mention Mosley either

147 is a welterweight bout, not a catchweight.
So, where are all of these other catchweights at? You said he fought most of his opponents at catchweights, and all you can do is bring up one legit example?
Turrrible.
Why didn't Margarito fight Paul again?
Paul declined, even after Margarito petitioned the WBO for an immediate rematch. So you tell me,
why didn't Paul want the rematch?

Pac fought in 1 catchweight.. so did floyd.. and he didnt even make weight...
Sad little Flomos dont even know much about boxing..

boxing fans with common sense already know this. only flomos are in denial.
LMAO...As much as i don't like Pactards, this site wouldn't be as entertaining as it it without them..
Oscar haven't fought at 147 or lower in Decades, not only was his age against him but then on top of that they drained him
Cotto at 145, Cotto has had problems making 147 before and they knew it so they wanted to take away 2 more pounds
again this is not to say that Pacman won because of catch weights or what not but this board has to be fair, if people are going to claim Mayweather cherrypicks then lets look at everybody who "Cherrypicks"
how come Margarito never fought Paul Williams again after losing to him, I see Margarito talking trash about Cotto "having the balls to face him again" but I don't hear him talking about getting revenge against Mosley, so would you consider that "Cherry Picking"? your willing to fight the guy you beat before but not even considering the guys that beat you...
same for Cotto also, the fans seems to want the Margarito match more then he does right now and as much as a like Cotto I still don't think he can beat Margarito at 154 even without the plaster
LOL dumb ass thinks 147 is a catchweight...
Pac fought in 1 catchweight.. so did floyd.. and he didnt even make weight...
Sad little Flomos dont even know much about boxing..
DLH wanted to fight PAC at WW, not the other way around. and 147 isn't a catchweight.
Cotto didnt have problems getting down to 147, he was 146 in the clottey fight.
In over half of Cottos welterweight fights he weighed in at the 146 range.
Oscar haven't fought at 147 or lower in Decades, not only was his age against him but then on top of that they drained him
