"I don’t want to see him in a non-competitive beatdown loss in Vegas (vs. Pacquiao), or a non-competitive beatdown victory in Texas (vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.), or a non-competitive walk-over in NYC (vs. John Duddy). If Arum tries to serve these matchups to the public, I hope the real fans of the sport take him to task and boycott that bulls__t."

if he fights bradley, it'll be at a CW, so that's out the window.
clottey, been there done that, and clottey ain't high on HBO's list of priorities anymore.....he blew it.
bring on berto, mosley, williams, or martinez. f- everybody else.
he would come back to 147 I don't care what anybody says the only guy I could see him fighting at 154 is angula and even that is not a main event type of a fight IMO
Berto Mosley Bradley even Clottey is acceptable fights at 147 don't force feed us a Pac fight at a 148 catchweight

What's a competitive fight for Cotto? Seems like everything is either an easy win, easy loss, or irrelevant.

and why does he only have to fight toprank fighters?
that's not the type of "BIG" fight cotto had in mind......i don't think.
Maybe not but its a bigger payday than Angulo, Martinez or Williams are ever going to give him. Shit, its a bigger payday than Mosley or Berto as well. Aside from getting in there with Paq (which he ain't ready for) and Marg (who still can't get a license) its his biggest money fight and I'm sure thats what he meant.
Which is exactly what the JCC Jr fight is. It'd be a big fight for Mexican fans, Cotto would be in it so the PR crowd is in for sure. Then you'd get some casual fans once they hear JCC Jr. they'd might watch it out of sheer curiosity, its a win/win for everyone.

by the way, what's with all this pussy-ass "tune-up" talk?
was i the only one who heard cotto say he only wants "BIG" fights, with "BIG" names?

Cotto vs Jr is the best option for Cotto at this point IMO. He gets more time with Stewart, shouldn't get into a brutal fight ala Marg/Pac. He should win and most of all he'd get a huge payday as Jr. is probably the top 3 draws from Mexico, they'll probably beat the 500k buy rate that Marg/Cotto did.
has to be a mexican.
i want another pr vs. mex fight.
how about cotto-angulo? cotto-alvarez? (too green and unproven?)
Cotto-Angulo definitely works for me. That just has to be a terrific action fight.

that's the fight doug was saying he wants too
Yeah, I agree 100% here. If anyone's earned the right to fight an 'easy fight' it's Miquel Cotto. The guy has fought a laundry list of top welterweights and it would be nice to see him gradually settle into the higher weight class (jr middle) by fighting a 'softer' opponent....
you and surgeon need to be fully informed. doug also said this based on Arum saying post fight that its only ppv's not for cotto.
he turned down any talk of sergio martinez by saying that sergio isn't a big enough name- only ppv level fights for cotto.
I actually don't mind the Chavez Jr. fight. About time the guy steps up in competition.
The Pac fight is pure piss though. We don't need that again. Great matchup the first time, horrible the second time. Arum is using Cotto.
While theu might not be appealing fights I sure won't boycott them.
Entertainment value should be good besides it's doubtfull any of them would end up on PPV.
all would be on ppv. when't the last time chavez wasn't on ppv.
arum said only ppv's for cotto from here out. you need to read the whole article. people always leave shit out to make doug look bad.
It was just an off hand comment, not a crusade. Fischer is basically saying that there are better fights for Cotto out there. He isn't wrong either.

funny how people on here rake a guy over the coals for saying a promoter should make an effort to sell us something other than garbage. while i disagree about boycotting a cotto vs pac rematch...anyone who would pay to watch cotto vs chavez jr is fukt. fuk bob arum and his recycled club fighters...that shit aint ppv material.
