Yes, that was an interesting way to make sure that no coaching (or stalling) went on during the rinsing off of the mouthpiece, but I sure hope that this practice does not become common. If it does, then you run the risk of the opponent's corner having a "special" water bottle ready, and who knows what substance, drug, or chemical could be put on your fighters' mouthpiece.
Personally I wouldnt want the opponents corner touching my fighters mouthpiece ever, for any reason. Nothing good can come from it. If anything, get a commission inspector or official to do it, but NOT the opposing corner.
A little too paranoid. Do you really think that they planned in advance that the mouthpiece would be spat out?!? Would they risk getting caught doing some dirty shit just in case?
Sure there may be one or two nuttjobs in the industry that might do something dirty, however, the chances of it happening in an instance like this are virtually zero.
1. First off, it isnt like ringside security is Fort Knox or anything. I guess you've never been ringside at a major fight. I've been ringside at plenty of them, and never once have I been searched, patted down, or anything.
2. Second, naive much?
LOL
...so what you're saying is between the 5 seconds the ref hands the opposing corner the mouthpiece, and while the ref and everyone is STARING at the corner and watching them handle the mouthpiece, a random from ringside is going to whip up some hot sauce water, and then hand it to the trainer with the mouthpiece and everyone is going to sit and watch this mouthpiece get rinsed with this concoction?! Are you kidding me.
:tool:
Agree with Onepunch.
Besides being just weird, the potential harm of the opposing corner handling the mouthpiece far outweighs the harm that any extra coaching/stalling would bring.
And it's just unnecessary. Have the commission or the referee do it if you dont want any coaching or stalling going on.................

perhaps you're right. I'm sure that EVERYONE in boxing is so honorable that there's just no way, ever, that anyone would ever do anything against the rules.
What was I thinking??
silly me............
Did you just watch "Gladiator".....:439:
I think you're the one being naive.

First off the corners can't bring anything "special" into their corner. The commision is supposed to check and know everything that the corner uses in the fight.
