Its amazing how Floyd's workrate has reduced since 130 lbs. I mean floyd used to be a monster, but now he throws way below the WW average. He's so inactive in the ring that volume punchers like pwill can beat him.
just go back to the diego corrales (R.I.P.) fight. he was throwing tons of punches from all kinds of angles. Eventually he stopped diego.
now look at the dlh fight. floyd barely threw any punches at all and the fight went to a split decision. if floyd just let his hands go more, he would've won by a wider margin.
Its sad to see such a great boxer reduce his workrate and become a boring boxer. Floyd was at his best at 130 lbs. He was a spectacular boxer then. At 130 lbs, without reducing his punch output, he could've stopped JMM.
Floyd needs to get his punch stats up. that's a glaring whole in his game.
Because he's usually fighting guys that outweigh him by 10+ pounds in the ring, his power hasn't really carried up with him, and he has to concentrate more on defense. That and he does have rather small, fragile hands.
I'd include Floyd in the list of guys like Haye and Adamek that were more fun to watch at the lower weights. Be great if Floyd and Pac joined Bradley, Khan, Alexander, Maidana, etc at 140 for a tourney.
Lol takes care of himself financially. The reason Floyd returned to boxing after his retirement post-Hatton is cause he blew tens of millions of dollars on bad investments/reckless living/gambling. Hardly taking care of himself financially.
Anyway I agree with ur point about ppl being negative....end of the day the point is valid, Floyd is less busy, but it's cause of his efficiency, he can beat a man without exerting himself too much
What other current fighter has made the dough that Floyd has made. He supposedly has a tune up in July in Africa but none the less I will only exort this when FLOYD moved up to 135/140 and fought Augustus, Corley he tried to do the same as he did at 130 but found out quickly the guys are quicker and stronger. These are two fights where you see Floyd bleeding and get tagged very hard. I appreciate the fact that he stood toe to toe but theres no use in doing that unless your trying to please the crowd. Which I think he was, but no one will give him credit for those fights. After that I think he learned and started to hone his defensive skills even more to preserve his longevity in Boxing and make as much cash as humanly possible.
Question one for anyone. Why throw 1200 punches during a fight and connect on only 20-30% if you can throw 400 and connect on 50% or better. I think you want get tred as fast or countered as much. It may be exciting but the long term punishment may leave something to be desired. LOL good thread.
I think there are a number of factors behind this:
1. He's more methodical about picking his opponents apart.
2. Less chances of hurting his hands
3. Stronger opponents so leaves them less openings
4. Floyd Sr being back in his corner, he got kind of sloppy fighting like roger
when his father left but now Sr is back on his ass about fighting smart.
5. Doesnt need to be exciting to make alot of money off his fights.
6. Age
Had more but my mind just went blank.
If you check the averages for his weight class you will notice that floyd throws less punches than the average but lands more and has a higher connect percentage than the average. Its just like a job when you first get hired it takes you more time to do something but the more you get accustomed to the job the more productive you come. You do more work in 8 hours than you did when you first got hired. Floyd does more work throwing 40 punches a round than someone that throws 50, 60 or even 70 punches per round.
Actually, flomos are really jealous of Pacquiao's accomplishments. Deep inside they consider Floyd's skills as mediocre compared to Pacquiao.
Jealousy is ruining their small brains.
yes i'm sure that's it............another silly fukking alt.........:thumbsdow

Do you really believe that.

It baffles me that you can critique someone who is undefeated and takes cares of himself, finacially, mentally and physically. How often have you seen Floyd bleeding and swelling. Thats because he doesnt open up to get countered and stunned. The name of the game is win at all cost and im sure his style has prolonged his career and he only has a short time left at his current status, but when he retires if hes smart he will be able to live a fruitful life. Long as he doesnt stick around to long. Maybe the other fighters whom once they step up to the top caliber and get bruised and battered should watch more of Floyd or Pernell and there defense. We fans want the blood and guts but we never think of the pain and torment that the fighters go through when its all said and done.
This is a good post, probably not a thought that ever occurs to a Pacquiao fanatic however. The key in boxing is to hit and not be hit, of that particular strategy Mayweather has become a master. He's never been a blood and guts fighter and thankfully he probably never will be. It's exciting as hell watching two guy pound each other relentlessly, but after the thrill has faded the wounds that are left behind are life changing.
Pacquiao takes a lot of hurt in his fights; I wonder what that's doing to him? I wonder what sort of man he will eventually become?
yep. I mean its strange how floyd retired exactly when he should've fought margo, cotto, and mosley. instead he waited for them all to bash each other's brains out, and then he made his comeback.
strange indeed.
Any version of Cotto at 140 and 147 would lose to FMJ......Shane would have lost to him back in 2006.......
not sure about Margo..........still not sure.......
i doubt this was the reason he retired.....as reasons go it's not a very good one.....he would beat cotto (and he thrashed Shane this yr). The more compelling reasons to retire:
1. Get his price up. "the sport will miss me when i'm gone" - FMJ. Guess what???.....he was right.....it did.......that's why he made $30 and $40 mil in the last 2 fights, without a guy called Delahoya.
2. Let the body heal. If you watch the Hatton 24/7 in the one segment he shows a rare sign of weakness when he talks about his body breaking down......."......all this shit.....it's nerve wracking" He isn't joking when he said he took time off to let his body heal......and it looks to have done so.......you can't continually punish the human body the way he did for 15 years and not expect wear and tear.......
retiring was the smartest thing he did.........!!!!!!!!!!!

good post....would green k, but my situation precludes it.......
"......you don't want to go out there and be a loose cannon.....' - FMJ
it's all about self preservation.......other fighters get hit because their defense is shit.........!!!!!!

volume can overcome counter-punching....but P Williams would get beat by Floyd.........Margo and Pac have a better shot at Floyd than Paul Williams
his workrate had dropped off significantly since 130 lbs. floyd used to be an offensive juggernaut, now you'll be lucky to see him put 3 punch combos together.
who gives a ****; what he does works and gets the W;untilsomebody comes alongs and beats him then there shouldn't be any complaining,
I think its because he has had ongoing problems with his hands in the past. You saw what happened when he injured his hands against Castillo, he struggled quite a bit.
Come on, Winky was coming off of a long layoff and sat in his shell all night, and Quintana is nowhere NEAR the level of Floyd (yet he did beat Williams the first time). Martinez on the other hand gave Williams a lot of problems and made it a very close fight because Williams' punches weren't going anywhere and he was paying for his mistakes all night. Floyd is a better boxer than Martinez, so I can really see him breaking P.Will down and winning a decision.
Hmmm, Winky had a long layoff...... I was waiting for that....... very true but everytime I mention that Mosley had ring rust, I don't ever hear a Floyd fan say it's true, Floyd fought an old rusty Mosley.
Back to Williams: Yes, Williams had trouble fighting a slick ackward Quintana......... but what happened with fight #2? He learnt from fight # 1 and finished Quintana.
As for Martinez against Williams, that was a great fight and yes he gave Williams trouble. Still Williams won and put another lesson learnt in the bank. Remember that Martinez is taller and appears to have better power than Floyd so that may give Martinez that extra edge against Williams.
Also notice something? Both Martinez and Quintana are southpaws. Those boxers are a special breed that can give anyone fits. Just like Manny can give anyone fits. Some boxers have an easier time adjusting to them than others. Floyd is not a southpaw!
Again, if Williams can improve on some of his technique(flaws), he would give Floyd a ton of problems. Williams can punch thru Floyd's roll the shoulder defense because he is tall enough to just go over Floyd's rolling shoulder defense. Shorter opponents often would bounce their right hand off of Floyd's shoulder. NOT WITH WILLIAMS! This is a major advantage for Williams.

Smart! There was no way he could've went through all them fighters and satisfied everyone and be healthy. Cotto is a prime example of why you shouldn't fight too many tough fights in succession. Floyd let them knock each other off and let the media build up one great fighter for him to comeback and knock off, only to retire again. You might not like it but it was absolutely the smartest move to make.
he connects between 45-60% of his shots... enough said.
