The poll now looks like Jhonny Gonzales' record.
:boxing:
looking at how lopsided this poll is makes my stomach hurt.
feels like i took a penalosa shot to the gut.
Rich Loc's hatred is 1 dimensional. Tua's hate is more robust and nuanced.
Both are totally misguided though in their flagrant disregard for one of the greatest fighters of our time and space.
chris john must be lord of time and space.
he doesnt like JMM because of his love for Manny.... there's a static interference there for most manny fans
again, most... not all
nothing to do with pacquiao.
i started liking morales more AFTER he beat pacquiao. something marquez has never done.
my dislike for marquez stems from morales , barrera and hamed.
morales , barrera and hamed fought practically EVERYONE including each other.
yet they "ducked" marquez? give me a freaking break.
hamed offered marquez a fight. he turned it down.
morales offered marquez a fight. he turned that down as well.
he beats a past it barrera and that means he's better?
give me a break.
juan manuel marquez is very overrated by his fans and casuals with limited knowledge. probably because of his tough fights with pacquiao.
ken norton arguably beat muhammad ali 3 times , no one claims he's an atg. some people are just bad styles matchups for fighters much greater than themselves.
With Katsidis, Nacho said it was a money issue. He said JMM commands 2 mill+ a fight and that Katsidis can't bring that to him.
I think what they want is one big money fight to retire on with someone like Hatton.
As for Tua, he always conveniently leaves out that not only had Casamayor beat Katsidis prior to fighting JMM, but that JMM was 35 or 36 himself.
He also leaves out the fact that Barrera is younger than Marquez as well. The argument that Barrera has been in more wars is invalid since Marquez went 24 rounds w/ Pacquiao himself.
To bring up Medina is just foul. Marquez would beat Medina no matter when they fought.
My favorite guy out of the three amigos is Erik Morales. I like JMM too, and fuckin hate Barrera because of his snug ass attitude and dirty fighting. But I just think legacy wise, Morales blows those two guys out of the water.
Wins over
Junior Jones
Manny Pacquiao (Would've put up better combat in the series if he wasn't past his prime)
In Jin Chi
Barrera (Only lost the other two because he took him lightly)
And there are countless other tough guys on his resume, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. They were all at their peak too except for maybe Zaragosa.
Boxing scene interviewed Erik Morales live on the chat radio show.
You should find it and listen since I know you like him.
i actually hated erik morales.
i was a big barrera nuthugger.
how morales handled fights at the end of his career and how barrera handled his , changed my opinion though.
See, here's the thing. I agree that JMM's best weight is at 135. But I just don't see how Bradley beats him because he's featherfisted and he's a small 140 lber even though he's getting ready to move up in weight. Now I think Bradley would definitely beat Khan head to head, but I think that JMM would stand a better chance at beating Bradley than Khan. Bradley pretty much has a swarming style just like Juan Diaz. He just fights with better defense and throws punches from more different angles, but he's not as aggressive or imposing as the version of Diaz that fought JMM. I really think that the ball is being dropped on JMM's legacy. A fight with Morales does nothing for his legacy, and I know that is who Nacho and JMM is gonna try to go after.
Tua hates Juan Manuel Marquez, but he actually wanted him to beat Valero because he hated Valero worse.
I don't why Tua doesn't like certain fighters. It's usually the cool, colorful ones with unique styles that he doesn't like.
No surprise he picked Rafa.
from 1993 to 2007 , 14 fucking years , juan manuel marquez's BEST WIN was manuel medina.
unless you want to claim derrick "smoke" gainer.
'
I don;t know why he doesn't like Caballero either.
That cat is cool, unique and a warrior.
Yet, Tua doesn't like him.
I think he likes conformist boxers.
:)
tua is tua is tua... thats about all there is to it
Your posts about JMM are pretty predictable, but I've gotta admit it looks like he's just totally conceding the end of his career when it comes to closing it out with a bang. This Diaz rematch is like the most pointless fight I can think of regardless of how exciting the first fight was.
I don't want to see Darchinyan get butchered in a mismatch either, but at least Rafael is getting right back in the ring after last night it appears. I think guys like Caballero and Gamboa are high risk, low reward but I'm pretty sure that Rafael will try to go out with a win over Lopez. And if he acheives it, man that would put his brother to shame.
I know that it appears that GBP screwed him JMM of the money for that fight with Khan, but Nacho admitted he didn't think JMM belonged over 135. Okay, fair play. But who is there for him to fight at 135 that's even in the least bit worthwhile besides Katsidis? Guerrero is a decent opponent too. But Nacho went on record and said he didn't want JMM fighting Katsidis. Okay then, so who is JMM gonna fight after the Diaz rematch? I sometimes understand the dirt you kick on JMM, where Dap just blindly worships him.
juan manuel marquez is a great fighters and probable HOFer.
i don't agree with how people greatly exagerrate his greatness.
he has great skills but his resume is lacking up to recently (against a very past it casamayor and barrera)
"claiming" to be ducked by barrera , morales and hamed does NOT add to one's resume.
juan manuel marquez nuthuggers who overrate him make no sense. they're as bad as pactards and flomos who think their man is GOAT.

laughing at the poll results.
should be closer than that.
5 wins over mark johnson , israel vazquez and tim austin trumps juan manuel marquez's wins.
look at where casamayor , barrera , medina , etc. were in their careers when juan manuel beat them.
now look up where johnson , vazquez and austin where when rafael beat them.

I love JMM a lot. But I might love Raffy more... He's such a little badass...
:D
But I gotta disagree w/ the bold. People forget how good Two Sharp Johnson, Timmy Austin, and Mabuza were when Rafa fought them and stopped them.
His reign at Bantam is one of the best of AT and shouldn't be overlooked just because those guys don't have the same name recognition that the bigger guys do.
Rafa doesn't need to fight Juanma or Vic to prove anything, his legacy is set. Those fights are just cherries on top imo.
Dude has been dominating a long long time.
NO, I agree 100%. We arent talking about legacy. We are talking about what he can do to surpass his brother. Venus Williams is an ATG no matter what but she would have to do more to pass her sister who is even more of an ATG. Thats only my point
