THE DUBIOUS YAHOO RATINGS

To us the most disturbing aspect of the Yahoo pound-for-pound ratings which through some strange logic or is it magic saw Floyd Mayweather Jr replace “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao as pound-for-pound king, was the claim that the results were based on a group of so-called “elite” boxing writers. Really now?
The alleged “elite” list was loaded with Americans while it seems from Iole’s assessment not a single Asian boxing writer qualified for his “elite” status and therefore not polled despite the fact that Pacquiao, a Filipino and Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, a Thai also figured in the pound-for-pound voting. Not even Joe Koizumi, the Japanese boxing writer whose English may not meet the standards of Iole but who was good enough to make the Boxing “Hall of Fame,” was considered.

Man, Yahoo is just a damn panel.
The Ring still is the most respected authority on "P4P" rankings so I dunno why he's mad.
Does Yahoo have a ring title like Ring Magazine?
When this kind of argument happens, we know P4P is WAY out of hand. The only title that matters (because it actually exists) is Welterweight and that P4P can be decided (for now) when the two best Welters finally face off resolves this issue.
He should try critisize boxingscene's own rankings. Cliff Rold elevated Mayweather to no.1 there as well.
Then again I suppose his critique goes for Rold's rankings as well.
Unlike most lists, agree or disagree with me, I try to explain why I come to my conclusions. Race, or national origin, is a zero factor for me. I'd factor it's the same for Iole's voters as well.
Clifford writes good stuff but he has a habit of calling fighters of a certain ethnicity "robots", which I don't like. Beyond that and his hatred of the great Vitali Klitschko, I find him to be good.
I like Graham Houston. He is one of the best around.
I am not too fond of Hauser and felt he jeopardised his position as a writer when he came out and trashed John Duddy's promoters at the time and claimed a lot of things about them. This is despite him actually part of Duddy's team, which not many knew of at all. He failed to mention that. He clearly had a vested interest in the whole thing. That was a very slimy, deceitful thing to do.

I call robotic fighters robotic; ethnicity has nothing to do with it. And saying I hate Vitali is as baseless as calling Vitali great.
Legit as boxing writers? To me the two best are here on BoxingScene in Cliff Rold and Jake Donovan. I also like reading Thomas Hauser. Another boxingscene writer T.K Steward is also good.
Lee Gorves, Thomas Gerbasi, Steve Kim, William(Bill) Detloff,
Are them are my favorite writers. There are more that I like to read.

If you keep reading the article, it looks like Ronnie went on a shooting spree of other American journalists including Leonard Ellerbe... :D
---------------
Certified friend of Mayweather and his handler Leonard Ellerbe, David Mayo from Grand Rapids Michigan where Floyd comes from was also on the list. Nothing personal against David who seems to be a nice person but its obvious whose side he is on. He even has a freelance writer listed as “elite!” Nothing against Peter Nelson personally but it does seem odd that a freelance writer is included while such distinguished writers as Bill Dwyre of the Los Angeles Times, Nancy Gay of AOL.Fanhouse, the many excellent British boxing writers who fell in love with Pacquiao when he toured Britain prior to the Ricky Hatton fight.
They both suck and I don't read their shit. Throw in Dan Rafael and Lyle Fitzsimmons. Everything they write is crap.

I'm surprised ronnie forgot to include the standard " manny and his lovely wife jinkee"!
Seriously, he is complaining that a US writer compiles a p4p ranking on a US website and gets 30 other US writers. Does ronnie know the etnicity of any of the voters?
Wow!
