While he isn't 100% back, I was very impressed by his performance last night. I honestly think he is one of the most talented 140lbs in the world (maybe even more than devon alexander) and he is one for fight away from being back. I really like his footwork, patience, and he way he picked his shots. Outside of keeping his left hand up when pulling back, I rated his performance a 9 outta 10. Hopefully he works out what ever problems he has, because it's gonna be exciting to see him against the elite fighters at 140 and 147.
Maidana has turned out to be championship level and pretty damn strong. Ortiz has and will continue to grow from that loss mentally. He knows he needs to box more now. I think he matches up nicely with all of the Champs.
He boxed very well. Kind of similar to Devon Alexander only Devon fights like that - tidy, compact, crisp sharp punches with power - COMING FORWARDS. I hope Ortiz can get in with one of the other big players.
The big difference b/t Alexander/Ortiz is Alexander is a natural southpaw so his left will land with devastating power. Ortiz needs to work on his left hand since he is a right handed fighter with that beautiful jab 2 more fights agaisnt good oppositions and his confidence should be in full effect. U don't want to throw him back in with the wolves yet we don't need him going out like Vargas at 22 he still has time on his side.
Agree...He looked alot faster and stronger than I expected, he also seemed to be conditioned alot better as well. Im not a big fan of his but credit where credit is due he looked great.
What the hell do y'all want from Ortiz? I think he fought better than he ever has last night. How is he "not back" yet? Is it just because he didn't go crazy throwing sloppy punches just to get a KO against Campbell??
Victor will get his payback on Maidana. He lost cause he brawled with a brawler(Maidana). He can easily outbox him and get him out in the late rounds. Plus Maidana is scared for the rematch, what does that tell you.
he didn't impress me too much at all. He came out fighting scared in the first round until he got the knock down...when he realized campbell had nothing for him he started showboating suddelly with all the smirks. He was toying instead of fighting a guy he shoulda had out. Campbell is a pure bum and im sad to say, but he fought like roy jones of today. The show was so bad i didn't finish watching that fight so idk if he even stopped him but regardless, it shoulda came way sooner
Part of that was Campbell himself..he wasn't really throwing any punches and just covering up his face..not allowing Ortiz to really be able to land more ....Campbell wasn't takin any chances on gettin KTFO'd....Ortiz shoul've gone to the body more.
Good fight for Ortiz....
Exactly bro !!
Vicky fought a f**kin' statue last night. What's he gonna do when a guy is able to fight back and fight hard and he doesn't have the luxury of being the faster guy. Dude is fragile, he's on the "fight safe program".
what'll happen? those shots that were blocked by nate last night would land flush on a less statuesque fighter. ortiz made him a statue cuz when campbell would advance and get more aggressive, he would get caught.
as long as victor is concentrating on being more of a complete boxer as opposed to a crowd pleaser, he'll have more options. it aint like he somehow managed to phase out the power out of his game. he's still the hardest hitter at 140 imo...and now he boxes more? sky's the limit. he just has to find a balance.
Ortiz put on a very good performance. Very good footwork and fluid movement a little too much on the cautious side like he made a deliberate decision not to fight but box and move.
agree with you on this one......he can beat Maidana.......
yeah thats true, maidana rejected the ortiz rematch like 3 times even when ortiz decided to fight him for free.
I honestly believe that if the would have had an immediate rematch, Ortiz would have won via wide UD or possible late TKO. It was so simple as to what Ortiz needed to do vs what he did wrong. The rematch needs to happen because Ortiz would make that fight look easy IMO.

nah man, maidana hits too hard....this kid does have heart issues cus he fights on emotion
he does and i also think his ability to actually box is overlooked.....sure he is wild and reckless at times......but he is explosive and the right hand is sneaky as hell...........
but Ortiz put him down hard in rd 2......but when he couldn't finish he was doing the wrong thing.......he needs to keep that stick in Maidanas face.....if he jabs him and works from there he makes his life easy...........

i disagree.........if he can mentally overcome the loss he can learn and adapt......i would back him in a rematch with Maidana.

Maidana beats him again, i wouldn't mind Ortiz vs Khan though.

Honestly I think something was mentally wrong with him during the Maidana fight. I hope he got whatever personally problems he had during that time worked out, because I don't buy the "he has no heart" b.s. that is said about him.
Did HBO interview Ortiz and Campbell afterwards?
1. Agree.........it's bullshit.....but boxing fans these days are bandwagon jumpers and will start shitting on a fighter as soon as they lose or show some perceived weakness.......they seem to forget he got up after Maidana floored him with a heavy right in rd 1......he just needs to believe.....he is lacking that atm.......i'm a big believer in Ortiz.......
2. @starjammer....bscen has some video coverage......check out the vids page.
ye skilled technical boxer, be interesting who he will fight next.
I think it needs to be against a rugged but beatable opponent. IMO Lamont Peterson fits this bill perfectly.

You could say Ortiz used to fight like that, then Maidana happened.
