I have seen postings to the effect "I cant wait until Paq retires and all his fake boxing fans go away". Do you really think Paq fans are going to stop watching boxing when Paq retires? I will still be here, the question is what are Floyd fans going to do when he retires? Some Floyd fanatics act like the only real fans are Floyd fans, the only real fighter is Floyd, and the only thing that belongs in a ring with him is his shadow and all the shit he talks. What will you do when he retires for good? Will you cry? Will you stop watching boxing? Will you just watch tapes of his old fights? Will you claim, no matter who else comes along, "he could never come close to Floyd" What will you do when your god leaves the sport?
NO FIGHTER! PAST, PRESENT or FUTURE is bigger then the Sport, sure PPV numbers won't be as high as it is now because I don't think it will be another Boxer that will be as BOLD as Mayweather, Mayweather will still be around though, he is going to make a GREAT PROMOTER when he retires IMO
but it is some good young fighters coming up, Andre Berto will still be around he is a young fighter, but you have a lot of guys in that 140 division that will move up eventually, Maidana, of course Devon Alexander, Amir Khan (if his chin can hold up), Timothy Bradley, Saul Alvarez, Victor Ortiz (that fight against Nate Campbell will be important for him) can't forget about Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez, not sure if they ever plan on moving up
Pacman fans will be the ones that disappear though or they will all jump on Nonito Donaire Bandwagon and put too much pressure on him and expect him to be as good as Pacman
but regardless, Boxing has a great future
Floyd fans generally are fans of the sweet science you have to be because his a boxer not a brawler. Most Floyd fans appreciate the art of boxing as opposed to say the more recent Pacquiao fans who just want to see somebody get KTFO
I am a fan of both the sweet science and a fan of someone getting KTFO. That is why I am jacked about Floyd vs Paq. What I am not a fan of is Floyd, I used to be, when he was at lower weights he boxed masterfully and won a lot of fights by KO, and he wasnt nearly as arrogant then as he is now. I used to be in awe of RJJ, and one of my favorites now is Andre Ward. Just because someone enjoys knockouts doesnt mean they dont also appreciate slick boxing as well, and vice-versa.
Mayweather retired before in the past and then people moved on and watch boxing, Guess who didnt move on and were still talking and making threads about Mayweather even when he was retired?
There is
Fernando Guerrero
Devon Alexander
Timothy Bradley
Jorge Linares
Elio Rojas
Juanma
Gamboa
Hasegawa
Rigondeaux
Ward
Dirrell
List goes on and on and on. We'll all continue to watch. Although for me, I'll have to be very patient because I LOVE defensive boxers, and rarely do they come through.

We will go watch other boxers because we have more than 1 boxer we like to watch.
When Pacquiao retires people like Pasawakayo and baracuda will stop watching boxing because well.... they only know Pacquiao.
Just like all the Calzaghe stans when Calzaghe retired.... where are they now?Not here.

eversince during muhamad ali's time, tyson, duran, dlh, and during the times when Pacman is not yet existed, filipinos are huge fan of boxing. even when the time comes and Pacman retires, the filipinos will never stop loving the sports(Boxing).
Good point, one of the greatest fights in history was the Thrilla in Manilla, dont recall any Philipino fighters in the main event..............
The real fans will continue to watch the sport, but you will see some stans that will fade awaym same with Manny fans to be honest.
boxing is our sports next to basketball and billiards(pool), filipinos are into boxing since 1920s.
I doubt there is any fan out there that is a Floyd fan only.
The reason people question what alot of Pacquiao fans will do when he retire is that they (not all but many) are limited to cheering for 1 fighter, and care more about Pacquiao than the sport itself.
They (again, not everyone) are generally not boxingfans, but Manny fans.

Depends if Pacquiao gave Floyd anything resembling a close fight.
If Floyd dominates Pacquiao, then the prevailing wisdom will be that Pacquiao was never really on Mayweather's level, wasn't big enough to make up for it, Floyd should've been testing his skills against bigger guys who actually have a chance at beating him - it'd be a great name, no doubt, but the prestige of the event would account for 50% of the shine a W over Pac would put on top of Floyd's ledger.
A genuine challenge up at 160 could prove to be the much more meaningful for his pure boxing Legacy.
good post. i didn't consider the credit floyd "won't get" if he beats manny too easy.
i agree.
Nah, there's plenty left.
Fighting someone worth fighting for a title at middleweight is something I'd like to see Floyd do. Pavlik's dethroned and done at that weight, so it wouldn't be him, and I'm not saying for sure Floyd would do it, anyway - but maybe someone will really establish themselves at 160 in the next 12 months or so, and who knows. I'd be up for that, anyway.
if he's interested in winning a title at another weight, that could be attractive....it's just hard to imagine anything coming close to how big beating manny, will be for his legacy.
Gamboa, Dawson, Ward, Martinez, and Dirrell, will hold me over.
My question is, what are Pac fans going to do? There probably wont be another great Filipino fighter for two or three decades.
