No, I am pointing out that the Olympic Silver medal totally alters the playing field when you make resume comparrisons to other non Olympic fighter's careers in their early twenties.
In retrospect though I don't think we can have any real complaints about how Khan's career has been handled. He's been that vulnerable at lightweight around the whiskers and prone to making elementary mistakes that if he was thrown to the wolves early, I'm not sure he'd be around now.
Now Khan has Roach and renewed focus he is the best fighter he can be, and he is at least a viable opponent for World-class fighters with the right nuturing and commitment.

So you have set higher standards for Amir Khan because he was a teenage Olympic medallist?
No, I am pointing out that the Olympic Silver medal totally alters the playing field when you make resume comparrisons to other non Olympic fighter's careers in their early twenties.
yet again you ignore the fact that Amirs resume at the age of 22 is much better then the resume of the fighters I mentioned before. At this age its not that uncommon to have a fairly padded resume but I dont think you were bashing the likes of Hatton and Witter when they were 22 and had a sh*tty resume. i havent seen you bash Bradley either when he had a worse resume then Amir at the age of 22. I don't see you bashing Ortiz and Maidana either.
I'm just asking, why the double-standards towards Amir Khan? :dunno:
wazaa, You are not comparing apples with apples. Khan's biggest REAL BOXING achievement to date is his Olympic silver medal. Business and career wise his career is based on riding that achievement. Hatton and Witter did not have Olympic success to generate immediate momentum so their careers won't be on the same fast track so the comparison is not sound IMO. Ortiz has been fast tracked also but he seems that he genuinely wants to fight the top guys. Khan is obviously avoiding them that is why I don't give Ortiz so much stick. Maidana is crude and limited and was manouvered out of his title chance by the Khan handlers.
Can you not see that Khan's Olympic Silver medal and the momentum it generates alters the perspective when you make comparisons to fighters with no Olympic record? That is why I am not into the age thing but how he behaves once he is champion.
Amir will fight one of these guys no doubt:
Timothy Bradley
Devon Alexander
Marcos Maidana
Victor Ortiz
Juan Manuel Marquez/Juan Diaz
Ricky Hatton
add to the list Mitchell and you are cerainly right
Why are you neglecting the part where I said that at the age of 22 Amirs resume is better then the likes of Bradley, Maidana, Ortiz, Malignaggi, Hatton, Urango and Peterson when they were 22?
And if you find Khan a joke stop searching the forum for his threads.
Junior Witter said that Kotelnik is a very good operator and much better then people think. He picked Kotelnik to beat Khan.
Enzo Calzaghe said back in 2008 that Kotelnik was the best guy in the division.
Kotelnik beat Maidana.
I hope you feel better now.
wazaa, I have watched kotelnik's fights with my eyes. I don't need those guys opinions. Since when have you taken Enzo Calaghe's opinion seriously ? Didn't he recently say Khan was not up to much? Why should you be happy with his opinion of Kotelnik and not Khan? The bottom line is Khan's record is not impressive and is a padded record of a cherry picker. Until he steps up to at least Maidana level opposition he has to be seen as a show pony. It is up to Khan to change my view by fighting real fighters instead of talking a load of shite and fighting soft touches. But on the evidence so far he is a joke.
Amirs resume now, is better then the resume of Bradley, Ortiz and Maidana went they were at this phase of their career.
Amir is a world champion because he beat a world champion. .
wazaa,Kotelnik was gate keeper level at best. Even Khan called him the worst World Champion that was untill he decided to fight him when he became a dangerous opponent.
Even you must be getting disillusioned with the cherry picking. Khan is a joke.
Amirs resume now, is better then the resume of Bradley, Ortiz and Maidana went they were at this phase of their career.
lol what? Well definitely Ortiz and Maidana, but not Bradley. Age and career phases are two totally different things. Khan turned pro slightly less than a year after Bradley. He didn't do much until 2008 & 2009, which is when he fought Barerra, Kotelnik and Salita. How does that compare to Witter, Cherry, Holt, Campbell, Peterson and soon to be Ortiz (once he KOs Campbell, he will become Bradley's mandatory)?
Amirs resume now, is better then the resume of Bradley, Ortiz and Maidana went they were at this phase of their career.
Khan has a title. Ortiz and Maidana have not achieved that. Khan is a champion now not a prospect. You can't have it both ways.
winner of ortiz campbell.
maidana as he has to fight him to keep his title, hele outbox him easily, maybe stop maidana.
or mitchell for big british fight if he beats katsidis.
Very good question. With Khan's record so far being built up/padded with fighting smaller men, past it fighters and light hitters it is difficult to see a change in pattern. We would all like to see him fight the likes of Alexander, Maidana and Bradley but that is not going to happen. I think we will get lots of talk about fighting those guys but Roach, GBP and Team Khan will look for another soft hitting oponent to "increase his US exposure". That will be the excuse they will use. We won't see Khan in a real fight untill the last fight in his GBP contract when they will want to cash in but that only happens if he does not extend it.
The illusion, the charade will continue. Khan has no real choice as it is obvious he will be obliterated if he fights anyone good and he has a gullible following that are quite happy to fund him fighting soft touches. In his position making lots of noise while avoiding fighting at the top level makes financial sense and I see nothing that makes me think he will step up to fight the higher level guys.
