I watched a lot of Mayweather's fights and he seemed sharper both offensively and defensively when Floyd Mayweather Sr. was the head trainer.
Of course Mayweather is now an experienced boxer, and he doesn't necessarily need his father, but I'm glad FMS is at least the co-trainer. I doubt we'll see the FMJ in his prime like when he fought Tony Pep and Genaro Hernandez, but from what I saw against Mosley I still think he beats Pacquiao.
This is Mayweather in his prime, obviously he's faster, sharper, and has a better work-rate then he does now.
Um, I dont know what youre on, but Floyd is in his prime... Right now.. He hasnt gotten slower, or lost any of his sharpness offensive or defensively, he's just facing better competition and he went up in weight so isnt as much of a knock out artist as he was... He's only 33, and if you really think that was his prime youre sadly mistaken, those were journeymen fighters..
And btw, Roger is alot better trainer than Floyd Sr. But we may get to see Floyd Sr. in Floyd Jr.'s next fight as trainer if Roger goes to the Pen this summer
It's clear that he isn't in his physical prime any more. If you watch his later fighters he used to use more lateral movement and had faster reaction time. Now he's far more stationary and technical.
Floyd Mayweather is past prime too, still the best but past prime. Poeple bitch about him fighting old guys as if he was 24 y old and like the highlander. Floyd has definitely shown less footspeed and power than he used too.
Tony Pep is a very good boxer and Mayweather would of looked that sharp against any opponent. I think it has more has to do with injuries. I noticed he started slipping after he fought Carlos Hernandez, the day he broke his hand. After that he was getting hit a lot against Jesus Chavez, in a somewhat sloppy performance. Then he had the controversial win against Jose Luis Castillo, although he did look close to his prime against Gatti.
Mayweather had a lot of problems with his hands earlier in his career. Now he says his hands are fine and he credits veteran handwrapper/cutman Rafael Garcia as a major reason why.

Sr might be better, but you also have to take into account the fact that Mayweather was better at 130, regardless of if he was with Sr. or Roger. Also by Chavez, he had to starve himself to make 130.
Like he said the competition has got better and he has gone up in weight. I think Mayweather is smarter now than there an what we saw against mosley shows that. Today's Mayweather beats Mayweather 8 years ago
