Just wondering. I used to like the guy. I still appreciate his talent but I hope Calzaghe comes back and destroys him.
( And I dont even like Calzaghe)
hopkins is the man, he's my all time favorite fighter, dude is a specimen and an example of how a fighter should treat his body and respect his sport.
with that being said, it's really hard for me to say this, but hopkins should hang up the gloves, he isnt sustaining the level of out put and intensity in his fights anymore.
one more fight, i don't think he should fight on anymore than one more win, no matter who it is, but right now with some of the names he's throwing out there, i think that they might be too much for him in the later rounds.
hopkins skills are enough for him to finish any fight, his defense is enough to have him reach the final bell, but his punch out out, and his power aren't like they were to handle a young lion..........
style wise i think hopkins beats a lot of guys, conditioning wise he's got it, and stamina, just not intense like it used to be, and that was one of his biggest assets was his intensity in the later rounds where it would break the other guy down because hopkins would turn up the heat. i just don't see that anymore.
but i will say this, hopkins when pressed fights a good fight, and the jones rematch didn't offer him up anything to really work with, although i thinkhe should'nt have respected jones and gone full blown for the ko......
any hoot, hopkins is the man, just at the twilight of his boxing career........
I never understood how anyone could be a fan of Hopkins. Yeah, he mean mugs and looks tough before and after his fights, but he doesn't do shit in the ring but roughhouse and not get hit. He's the most boring fighter in the world and has been since 2003. It's just awful watching this guy fight. He's great, no doubt, but he's also dirty, boring and annoying to listen to.
I thought his fight with Ornelas was the most watchable since Trinidad and it was TERRIBLE. I was bored to tears.
Vaderpool, Johnson and Echols(outside of the big wins) are the only ones I can think of right off the top of my head, from the "legendary" middleweight run.
How much did we bet? I forgot that we bet on the fight.
Howard Eastman, William Joppy, Robert Allen, Carl Daniels, Kieth Holmes, Glenn Johnson, John David Jackson, Secundo Mercado, Joe Lipsey. Yup just a few of the guys he faced not even adding the ones you mentioned, all bums right? even though almost all of these guys are former world champions.
It was damn hard to watch, I agree, and I typically dig that crafty, down and dirty style.
If he goes up looking for the big boys in search of more glory, though, I gotta support that endeavour.
But anything other than that, I want the guy to just call it a great career and retire. The Roy fight at least had that epic My Way ring-walk to remember as a cool sign-off, hahhaa.
Yeah that ring walk was epic he even had the back ground singers.
lolol
The guy's hilarious out of the ring, but I can't stand to watch him do his work. He is a boring, spoiling, dirty, overly technical fighter who should retire.
Toneys been outboxed twice in emabarassing fashion by the likes of Montell Griffen AKA Roy Jones`bitch, so chill on that one. I like Toney but relax. Toney has been very inconsistant and does his best work against stalkers slower than him like Iran Barkley not faster defensive fighters like Hopkins.
Griffin beat him the first time for sure....but Toney got robbed the second time........
inconsistent at 60 because of weight issues, hence flat performances and inactivity....that would be the only way hopkins would ever beat him.....what advantages would hopkins have at 60 or 68 otherwise??
Let's see:
Speed - no....Toney is faster.
Power - Toney again'
Chin - Toney again
Offense - Toney
Defense - Even (maybe hop slightly...cause James like to engage)
And overall skill would have to be Toney aswell.
Hopkins can't beat Toney.......

We bet all my money. :)
A fighter gets old and then loses a few fans who started watching the sport yesterday who think floyd is the greatest draw of all times. Hopkins fukked up every top ten middleweight from 1992-2004, and defended his title against over 10 champions and former world champions, and has almost more defences than Hager and monzon put together. He turns 45 fights dirty, and rests a bit and then clowns talk about how much respect they lost for a 45 year old man when til this day no one except for a prime Jones was able to beat him.
Hopkins has been a dirty fighter for the most part of his career. you are talking as if the Jones fight was the first time... :slap:
Although, I do like Tito, he is no where near a fighter that I would hang my hat on and hold a grudge over the guy that beat him up. Hopkins is a dick and doesn't come off as a good guy imo. Yeah, Floyd, RJJ, and others come off as arrogant asses but they have a somewhat likable personality about themselves. I don't seem to see that in Hopkins at all. He always seems like he is pissed off and the world owes him something.
His resume is good and does have some really impressive wins, especially as of late how he has been able to turn back the clock(I think the Pavlik victory was his second best fight), but it is still overrated. Just because you defend your title against 20 bums doesn't mean it is impressive, a bum is a bum no matter how you slice it.
You still owe me points for the Martinez/Pavlik fight dude.

20 bums? with over 10 champions and former champions amung them? Honestly do you know the people Hopkins fought? Also if you think they were the same type of guys Jones was fighting then you are mistaken.
**** that Bhops resume is overated as **** it's not much better then Calzaghes
Name two fighters with better resumes outside of Pacquiao and Holyfield today, list those names and get roasted by me if its ovarrated like yousayitis.

look at my sig Burner ;) and find out for yourself..
Not even if he moved on up to heavy? What one-time Hopkins fan couldn't get behind him in that event?
What'd he do to piss you off, anyway?
I dont know what it is exactly. I cant put my finger on it. He dominated Pavlik and I was happy, he beat Ornelas I was happy, you know what maybe the Roy stuff. That fight was just terrible. I had to watch the Glen Johnson fight to get that out my head.
