Six talented, promising super middleweights will be featured on ShoBox: The New Generation at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) Friday night live on SHOWTIME® at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Derek Edwards (25-0, 13 KOs) weighed the division-limit 168 pounds and Marcus Johnson (18-0, 14 KOs) tipped scale at 167 for their 10-round main event. Osumanu Adama (17-1, 13 KOs) and Don George (19-0, 17 KOs) each weighed 167 for their eight-rounder, while Kevin Engel (17-2, 14 KOs) weighed 170 and Edwin Rodriguez (13-0, 9 KOs weighed 169. Their eight-rounder will open the telecast on SHOWTIME.
What the fighters said Thursday:
Marcus Johnson: “I’m going to tame the lion.”
Derek Edwards: “l’m the best-kept secret in boxing. I’m going to take this one home and show everyone on national television who I am.”
Don George: “I put all the hard work in and tomorrow night’s my time to shine. It’s my first time on national TV and I plan to take advantage of it.”
Osumanu Adama: “I’ve had good training for this. It was a solid six-week camp, four weeks in Africa and the last two at the North Miami PAL Boxing Gym. SHOWTIME boxing fans, be prepared. This fight is mine.”
Edwin Rodriguez: “Engel is a gentleman and a true athlete. He is a boxer and a kickboxer so I know he is skilled. I wish him 100 years success but this is my time. I’m privileged to fight on SHOWTIME for the first time. This is my time to shine.”
Kevin Engel: “If Edwin Rodriguez is looking past me, he’s in for a whole world of trouble because I am going to win.”
Yea I hadn't heard about that. Kind dropped a bomb. I wish him well.
damn. i just finished reading some articles about it. i thought they had basically gotten rid of it, but i guess it was just in remission and it's actually not curable at this stage.
i went 3-0 tonight betting
that 2nd fight was great stuff. one of the scores was obviously bs
the texas boy is good but didn't work hard enough for the ko.
i think we all knew what was gonna happen to engel when they said he was a kickboxer until he was 25.
I had to run out for a little missed the first two and a half fights. How'd Rodriquez do?
I feel bad there is no one in that place at all.
They left after George. Crowd was 2817. Not bad.
Great fight. The commentators were rooting for Adama but it didn't help.
I have George winning 77-74.
Judges score it 79-72, 76-75, 77-74 for Donovan George. :)
Yup, that's about right.
Adama was spirited, but sloppy at times. George was much sharper on the inside.
Adama did something in defeat that I thought was very impressive.
Too many fighters get floored with a big shot and try to get up too fast. Adama sat there, took a deep breath, and got up when he needed to. Even some of the best fighters in the world don't know how to react when they get floored.
If he had tried to get up right away, there's a chance he could've fallen back down or been knocked out soon. He rallied at the end of the round and landed some big shots. That one smart decision kept him in the fight, even though he lost.
wide scores..home judging as usual...americans should stop whining about Germany judges..
German judges are the worst .... but who cares, this was a good fight, just enjoy
