In his last 4 fights Sergio Martinez (current WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazines Middleweight Titlehholder) weighed in at:
152-1/2 lb
154 lb
157 lb
159-1/2 lb
If Mayweather agreed to fight Sergio Martinez at a catch weight of 155lb for the Middleweight Title would you watch? Who would win?
(To qualify as a Middleweight Title fight.... it must take place above 154 lb.... so any catch weight below 155 wont work...)
break it down for me... in your opinion does Mayweather even keep it close?
Of course he could, he could even win the fight at 154. What I am saying is that he won't dominate Martinez, he won't outclass him or school him.... Floyd can win but it would be a close competitive fight...
Floyd is not a JMW. He is a WW. He will not be fighting a plodder version of Oscar. Martinez at 154 would be just as fast if not faster than Floyd. Martinez would give him a lot of movement that Oscar didn't fight. And, if Martinez gets Floyd in the roped he won't be throwing no little flurries like Oscar did. And, in the pace that Floyd fights in Martinez would still be effective late in the fight not like Oscar who gasses out after 8 rounds no matter who he fights...
I would slightly favor Martinez in that fight at 154. But, is a winnable fight for Floyd. In either case there would be no domination, schooling, or outclass from either side. It would be a competitive fight...
There only a few thats why it interests me. There was also Sharmba Mitchell, Judah, and Emanuel August.
Judah, Agustus, and that version of Mitchell were not slick...
I don't see why people say Judah is slick?
Yeah thats a cant miss. I like when Floyd fights slick boxers and proves hes the slickest.
You mean junior middle. He didnt look small against PWill. Thats what would makke the fight good because he would look much bigger than Floyd.
When has he? Corley?
I agree..... Martinez would be out classed... (that is what you mean right?)
No I beleive like everyone else is saying this is a bad matchup for Floyd with, Martinez's speed and quickness, not to mention his size and power. Floyd likes fighter tha come to him so he can sit back and counrter punch and Martinez is not gonna chase him around the ring because Martinez is the same type of fighter which makes potential for a boring fight. All these factors and the fact that Martinez is a southpaw, I beleive Martinez wins.
Floyd knows this and this fight is too big a risk for him there is no way he goes anywhere near this fight.
It would be a ho move on Floyd's part not to fight him at 160.
You do know Martinez holds both the 154lb and 160lb titles..... dont you? (I wasn't aware of this until "jrosales13" set me straight.... thanks jros)
I don't understand your logic.... please explain.
If Martinez can easily make the weight (not drained) and sees this as a an opportunity to participate in the biggest fight / payday in his life.... where is the problem?
Martinez is all wrong for Floyd. His style matched with being bigger, stronger, and possibly as fast or faster (at 155) and Mayweather has a huge problem on his hands.
No one can tell me that Floyd fights southpaws as good as he does orthodox fighters.
If the fight happens in the next 2 years, Martinez is winning.
Great post.... hopefully (in his quest for boxing immortality) Floyd disagrees with you and sees this as a viable option.

floyd didn't look so light on his feet at 150. pretty sure martinez would have the advantage of quickness and size/strength/power. martinez by sd imo
Nice post....... First one to give an intelligent reason why Floyd would lose this fight!
155 wouldn't be a draining catch weight, but a catch weight to have it technically be a middleweight fight, while practically being a junior middleweight fight. Any catch weight between 154-160 would be fair to both guys.
Thanks for fielding this one GDS.... glad I didn't have to answer this on again, and again....
