So i stayed up till about 4 in the morning (uk time) to see the fight and what i found ridicolous was Larry merchant saying in other words that Pavlik should of ducked Martinez and took on a Garry Lockett type of defense and these are generally the same people that say Floyd of fought this or that. It's no wonder the sport isnt thriving as much as it should especially when the commentators who should be calling the fight between the middleweight champion and a highly rated contender instead talk about how the champion of the world should of taken an easy defense lol
Only gave Pavlik 2-3 rounds. I was pissed off at the fact that Martinez wasn't being credited for his body work. The commentating yesterday was horrible.
They also mentioned numerous times that Martinez had a weak left hand. However, Pavlik's right eye would beg to differ.

Is this a rhetorical question? If you have watched HBO fights in the past, you would know that the commentators (especially Jim and Larry) have their favorite fighters. Those fighters can do no wrong and, on the rare occasions that they do criticize them, it is very light. On the other hand, they virtually never have anything positive to say about Mayweather regardless of what he does or how well he does it. When they do say something positive about him it is usually qualified (ex: they might say in the Mosley fight that: Mayweather fought a spectacular fight tonight, but he was fighting a man past his prime) or they follow it with a negative comment.
hahahaha
I remember that, I was like wtf? its only been a minute
yeah it was a WTF moment for me to, Pavlik only met the guy in the middle of the ring!!
I do prefer HBO commentary over other channels though.
HBO is much more entertaining. As boxing fans, most of us doesnt need analysts that tells us every move the boxer makes am i right?
"Jab, oh right hand! another jab!" no sh*t sherlock..
I always like when Lampley tells us stories from their lives and stuff.
(By all means, Sky sports arent bad i just prefer HBO. :) )
Yeah I noticed he says that shit all the ****in time too. He said it in the Cotto-Margarito fight. "Margarito is fighting a very good fight" and it was like 45 seconds into round 1 rofl
Emmanuel loves the bigger, stronger fighters, either that, or he's too busy trying to look like a genius by predicting what might happen down the road instead of analyzing what's going on in front of him.
I was just watching the Kessler-Andrade fight and he said the exact same thing about Andrade.
I vote for Jeff Van Gundy, Charles Barkley, and umm....WTH Dennis Miller to replace all 3 of them. That would be hysterical. hahaha
"The cavernous atmosphere of this arena is appropriate for the savage brutality on display." I'll pass lol.
Gundy is an eccentric cheerleader and he's not at it or play by play announcer than Lampley. Barkley would be great, I've heard him speak on boxing when it's not even warranted, so that shows he likes it and he's brutally honest which is excellent.

I remember there was a moment where Martinez drills Pavlik like 5 times right in the mouth and Pavlik flicks out a weak counter and Lamps yells "BIG RIGHT HAND FROM PAVLIK!!!!" and I'm like "uhmmmmm, what about the 5 shots from Sergio??" lolol
Kelly Pavlik is fighting the perfect fight.
-Emmanual Stuard (2 minutes remain in round 1)

typical hbo commentary. Also did u see emmanuel talk about the 160 division when they asked him about if martinez should drop the belt at 154 and stay at 160? He basically said all the big names are in 154 and even some ww are going up there and thats where the money is and he just grinned saying this. Me as a cotto fan was alarmed is he just there for a paycheck????
I liked how they kept saying Pavlik was "outboxing" Martinez. What fight were they watching?
Martinez landed fewer shots than Kelly in like two rounds. And the final Compubox number's weren't even close.
Pavlik got dominated.
Yeah, last night we heard some terribly biased commentary.
I like when they were degrading Martinez' punching power and Sergio just started beating the shit out of Pavlik and having Kelly close to quitting.
Kellerman would have changed the whole tone of the commentary to that fight.
Kelly Pavlik is fighting the perfect fight.

:lol1: true....I was like wtf is this mofo talkin' about?!? :lol1:
Yea I usually like Lampley. You just know it's a big fight when you hear him. But lately he has sucked. When I watched the replay this morning I said the same thing when I heard that comment. And then he made a big deal about Martinez getting knocked down. Obviously it was from a punch but he made it seem like it was from some monstrous right hand.On the other hand I love Merchant and never have a problem with him haha.
That was Lampley being Lampley. I thought it was funny when he tried to compare that to Lennox Lewis-Michael Grant. But Stewart shut him up fast by saying "Well Lennox knocked Grant out with the punch so that was not a questionable knock down" lol.
