Hopkins was the IBF #1 contender and fought Jones for the vacant title. He would go on to win the title after Roy vacated it. Green? I guess. A lot of people would kill to be green like that. Today's Roy, on the other hand, is shot. Completely. Jones was more impressive in beating Hopkins the first time than Bernard was beating him. I don't see it being equal at all - the fights nor their careers, for that matter.
you know with hopkins fans there is always a greater excuse when it comes to jones

I don't know about that. I don't remember Roy utterly dominating Hopkins in fight #1. But Hopkins dominated him easily in this rematch.
I beg to differ. At least he was far closer to prime than Hopkins was. Just like Hopkins now is closer to prime than Jones is.
Point is: Neither of them ever beat the prime version of the other....
So in the end they're equal.

Jones wasn't in his prime when he fought Hopkins the first time either.

well in a sense they're equal, they both beat out of prime versions of the other.
Jones beat an out of prime Hopkins (not yet prime, he was green), and Hopkins beat a far more shot version of Roy than he himself currently is.

Listen, at the end of the day, Roy beat Hopkins in their prime. Nuff said. Jones faced more champions, won more titles, and had reached a bit of a higher level than Bhop. So, Hopkins is trying to make himself fel better by saying Jones was scared and all that, nah, if he Roy was scared, so was bhop. Bernard is just trying to make himself feel vindicated in a sense for both of their performances. Funny how Hopkins forgot that he started all the fouling in the first place. But, being scenile is part of the aging process, I ain't mad at him. Blessings to yall

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Good observation.

Hopkins is a joke.. i mean Jones and Calzaghe are known dirty fighters and have had numerous instances of them fouling in there 80 + combined fights.... NOT!!
Yet Hopkins is down plenty of times crying fouls.. I saw Hopkins hit Roy on the ****ing Cup constantly going in with his head down trying to butt, Roy doesn't fall down like a little bitch even in his shot state. Yet Hopkins goes down 3-4 times with stuff which looked alot weaker then the shit he was doing to Jones
spank you...read my mind
After watching Jones-Toney, I couldn't in a million years imagine that his career would end like this, shot, being headbutted for free, with a crowd of 6.5k watching.
It almost always ends badly for the great ones. I just hope Jones stays out of the ring. Please.
Im not sure i believe Hopkins when it comes to anything really..
But if what he was talking about is true and he was blinded etc then Young Jones would have beat him up no doubt.
Its actually a good interview. Hopkins speaks the truth throughout it and admits Roy isn't the roy of 93. Says that he expected roy to give it one last hoorah after the danny green loss and show everyone why he is so great, and is disappointed he didn't do that.
Dude, chill out. I wasn't even refering to your original post, I didn't even read it. I was refering to Pullcounters question.
i wasn't calling you the retard, I was half responding to you and saying how these other bums are misinterpreting the video and what Hopkins is saying. Hopkins is in NO way saying that Jones could beat him. He's saying a prime Jones would have beaten an injured blinded Hopkins who was seeing spots and seeing double vision. In fact Hopkins said he was fighting 3 Roy Jones that's how badly his vision was affected by the rabbit punches
Nope
I just assumed he was being humble, but if his still going on about the so called "rabbit punching" then f**k him. What about all the guys he has Rabbit punched and headbutted over the years.
these retards need to learn reading and listening comprehension. I'm not saying I agree with him, I'm sure he was acting from those light rabbit punches. But Hopkins in this interview is saying that those punches affected him so badly in rounds 6-12 that he was fighting completely on instinct and thrown off his game plan and THAT'S why he's saying the old Roy Jones would have taken advantage of this weak, hurt Hopkins and would have beaten him.
Hopkins is right, Roy Jones has been remarkably silent in recent days. Not a peep. Maybe he realizes it's over. Heck, he behaves like he realizes when he's in the ring. But I think Hopkins also realizes that his "win" over Jones didn't provide any sort of redemption, vindication...anything. His performance was pretty horrible as well and the rabbit punch excuse is a little lame. Hops may not want to go out on this note but either Jones has some sort of mental hold over him that causes him to fight that way against him or he's aged enough to where he could get seriously hurt against a top opponent.
http://espn.go.com/boxing/ under the down with roy video
you guys aren't understanding the interview properly.
Hopkins is saying that due to the rabbit punch he suffered, he was hurt and seeing spots during the entire fight from round 6 onward to round 12 and thus fighting on instinct. So what he's saying is that, in his fouled condition, the old Roy Jones would have beaten him because Hopkins is saying he was at a disadvantage at this point because he was so badly hurt from the supposed rabbit punches.
Is Hopkins learning to be humble in his old age?
Hopkins telling it like it is.
did u guys even watch the vid? he was talking about the rabbit punching.
