I dont get the Hopkins comparisons. He didnt fight Pav at middleweight.
Hopkins is 6-1 and 185 Pounds.
Martinez is 5-11 and 160 Pounds.
They fight nothing alike. I severly doubt that Martinez can take Pavliks punches flush.
It doesn't matter, Pavlik will be the same fighter that reacts to feints, that resets every time his opponents moves laterally, that gets counterpunched, that doesn't want to reach in fear of getting counterpunched. Need I say more?
Good shit at comparing a rehydrated Hopkins to a non-rehydrated Martinez. If we do it vice versa they'd both be 170. 2 inches is not a big difference.
You comparing physical attributes while I'm talking about fighting style, techniques, and tactic tells me about your knowledge and/or agenda.
Hopkins didn't have to take a flush shot on the chin because of the tactics he does and used against Pavlik. The same tactics Martinez does and uses in his fights.

i just put $40 on Sergio to win by decision. It's paying $3.70....attractive odds IMO considering he is paying $2.30 str8 up for a win by any means.
Williams couldn't even hit Martinez clean when they were fighting on the outside and he has faster hands and feet than Pavlik. The only time he could get his shots in was when they were tied up or in exchanges, even then, he wasn't landing clean often.
Williams non stop pressure with his fast feet got to Martinez more than anything.
Williams is non stop activity, he doesn't react to feints, he doesn't get deterred by counters, and doesn't care if he has to reach as long as he gets his punches off. Pavlik isn't that type of fighter and he showed it against Hopkins.
People that think Pavlik just isn't the fighter that faced Hopkins will be in for a rude awakening. Martinez feints, counter punches, moves at a very high level and does it faster than Hopkins.
Compubox has an article about Pavlik's opponents' connect % against him. Everyone of them land more than 40%, Pavlik is gonna have to hope the few punches he lands on Martinez slow him down enough for him to catch him in the later rounds.
And even then, Pavlik's gonna have to dig deep and walk through some huge shots to get to that point.

However Williams taped Martinez in the side of the head and took his legs from him.

I like Martinez more now than I did before the Williams fight. He has a chance to make it very interesting. I don't really see him as a true Middleweight. That is mostly his downfall. He's quick enough though to tag Pavlik early.
Pavlik should be able to out muscle him in the end. Speed won't be as big of a factor since Pavlik is the bigger man. Hopkins was muscling Pavlik around too along with out boxing him. the clinching plays a big part. Martinez's foot movement won't be enough to me. I have a feeling people are underestimating Pavlik's boxing skill. I mean Hopkins made Tarver and even Winky at times look silly too. Don't go off of that performance.
Pavlik KO 9. He's too strong.
The problem is that we don't know if Martinez can even do that. We don't even know if he can deal with effective aggression.
He cant. Paul Williams proved that. He had Martinez on the floor crawling around from exhaustion.
Pavlik will bring power and more body punching.
i think both men have excellent stamina but Martinez will burn more early because of his style ie always on the move........if Pavlik wins this one it will be because he banks rds late in the fight or KO's him late......i see Pavlik losing alot of early rds........
This really is a great fight from a style point of view....Kelly is taking a big risk here......IMHO Martinez is a tougher fight for Pavlik at 160 than Williams would be......
I would pick Pavlik to beat Williams.....but this one is prob a toss up.
This is based more on you hoping and wishing this is the case. I remember during the radio show i told you that Martinez movement and quickness would give williams problem and i also said that you should anticipate williams to get dropped because the matchup simply doesnt favor him.
Its not that people are sucking off martinez, no, its that pavlik is flatfooted and basically throws alot of looping punches that martinez is quick enough to offset with his straight narrow jabs and straights. He also moves alot, something that bothered paul williams in his fight. Pavlik is slower getting off than Williams.
For whatever reason you seem to not respect martinez, probably because he arguably beat paul williams. But you need to respect the fact that williams is one of the most skilled middleweights in the division and this magical idea that Pavlik will just tag him like a punching bag is based more on you wanting it to happen more than it actually happening. I honestly think you didint see much of martinez before the williams fight, which is why your prediction was way off when we talked about it.
Let's bet then. 1 million epoints?

Im hoping and wishing that Paul gets the winner. It doesnt matter to me. Pavlik vs. Williams will be a classic. Martinez vs. Williams II will be another classic. Either way I win as long as Paul gets the winner. Paul will struggle with lefties. He made that clear in his fight with Martinez. His trainer didnt give him a gameplan at all and he basically won that fight on his own with no guidance.
The thing that can stop a guy who wants to move around is a stiff hard jab and that is what Pavlik has. Even Williams jab who isnt a hard jab was landing on Martinez alot. I noticed that Paul didnt follow it up enough with the hard left but Pav will follow his jab with the hard right.
I seen Martinez before the Williams fight. I still dont think hes very good the more I went back and watched the Williams fight. In that fight Paul made alot of mistakes. He made ALOT of mistakes. It wasnt like Sergio undressed him. Right after the fight Sergio said he took rounds of because Paul was all over his ass. Pavlik is not as fast as Paul but he throws alot and hits harder. Martinez is being severely overrated. Hes good, yes. Great no.
Pavliks body work and his jab will take a lot out of Martinez. When Pavlik lands flush and he will can Martinez take them? Williams doesnt hit as hard as Pavlik and hit Martinez in the side of the head and took his legs from him.

Martinez would be better than he was against Paul, he had more time to train.I know Pavlik has more power and everything but his speed is below average, and remember Cintron has a lot of power too and he did shit against Martinez, I know Kelly has a higher workrate but so do Williams.

Reminder: Kelly Pavlik hits very hard and he will land on Sergio ALOT. | BoxingScene Community
