Per ESPN scribe Dan Rafael:
Valuev's people are negotiating a possible May 29 fight between the 7-foot, 320-pound former titleholder and James Toney, who is more than a foot shorter and would be outweighed by roughly 100 pounds.
This is an interesting fight to say the least, obviously b/c of the size difference, but I think could be a borefest. I may not like it, but I'll watch anyway...
thoughts?...
so what about the Valuev vs SOLIS the WBC ordered?Valuev wants no piece of the WBC belt, he already ran from Vitali remember. He already had the chance to fight for the WBC belt in May, he will certainly not box in an eliminator for the WBC titleshot.
Toney's had a great career, that I won't contest, but he has been done a long time. I would rather see Valuev fight an active contender than see him fight the 42 year old former middleweight champ.
I thought James Toney was fighting in an mma bout soon? What's the story with this?
His first bout is in August. His contract allows him a boxing match in the spring.
Because Jame Toney is out-of-shape and shot while Valuev, skilled or not, comes into fights in great shape. Plus you have to factor in the size advantage for Valuev and the hometown cooking advantage (fight likely takes place in Germany)
Valuev looks soft too, outta his body weight i would say he has a 20% body hair percentage. toney has the skills to beat that bum valuev if he comes in 250lbs and fights on 1 foot
why is that funny? Valuev got out-boxed by 87 year old Evander Holyfield.

Well Toney negotiated his MMA contract to allow him to take boxing matches as well as MMA fights. If a big enough boxing match came up...he could take it and still not violate his MMA contract.
I could go into more details if you like but that is the jist of things.

And Toney by Fres ****ing Oquendo. Anyways they both suck and the fight would suck too.
i would have watched it, ive started to like Toney over the last couple of months and would be cheering for him.
he may take a UD i think, Valuev throws 10 punches per round and Toney has a sick defense. so, the formula to beat the beast is.
dodge 6 or more punches pr round so that you have dodged 60% or more, and throw more than 15 punches to totally outwork him.....
Toney can pull it off!
If Toney really does have a signed contract with UFC, he isn't boxing anymore because Dana White doesn't allow his fighters to do anything outside of the UFC.
He does have a UFC contract but supposedly Dana is letting him take one more boxing match beforehand and it's supposed to be on May
I highly doubt Valuev-Toney happens.
Why would Valuev turn down a WBC eliminator or his rematch with Haye to take a fight that gets him nowhere?
He's an enigma that's why and he's risk adverse. Why would he turn down a career high payday of $2.5 million to fight Vitali Klitshcko? IDK. Toney seems like a low risk opponent to get back to his winning ways....
