Did/do you agree with Steve Farhood that Lara is ready for a title shot (154) in one, two fights time?
Steve Farhood said Lara was ready for a title shot, now whilst i agree to an extent that 154 is not a great division, is Lara really ready for that? in terms of skill maybe, but i think what Farhood forgets is that once you have a title you cant go backwards or plateau, if you do then your credibility as a fighter takes a hit, therefore i would suggest they not be so anxious to rush Lara, particularly after his, what i consider to be underwhelming performances against Brewer and Danny Perez.
Do you agree with Farhood?
Sometimes it's quite interesting to throw a guy in a little earlier than normal to see what he can do. I don't think anyone at 154 is going to end his career.
A few more fights would serve him well, but if it happens I wouldn't be disgusted or anything.
No, he isn't ready yet and hasn't had a 12 rounder yet. He picked up good names with wins over Perez and Brewer. I'm not sure who at 154 would be a good stepping stone for him. Kassim Ouma would probably beat him, we all saw how close the Vanes fight was.
vanes is nothing special. he fights like a spazz.
lara's more skilled and is cool as a cucumber.
the way he fights, i dont think he'll have a problem going 12. there's no wasted movement in his style and he stays very relaxed during a fight.
ouma would be a good fight though since he's always coming forward and punching. i'd like to see if lara would shell up vs a volume puncher like that
i think he'd be competitive vs any beltholder at 154 right now.
so yes, i agree.
skill-wise, its all there. more experience wouldnt hurt though. he needs to fight a swarming puncher or a mover like martinez.
more so, he needs to earn his shot.
this aint ufc. he cant just be given a title shot after 11 fights.
joachim alcine or sechew powell would be good step up fights to see how ready he is.
Yeah sechew powell looked focused in the Latimore fight and showed good discipline, it would be interesting to see that fight.
