Question? Name a great heavyweight Wladimir has beaten. He has take advantage of a easy era and division and that's the bottom line. Watching his last fight i wasn't to impressed. I was hearing he could beat Prime Ali this and that but against basically a average heavyweight he looked mediocre to me and his punches look predictable.
Prime Ali boxes circles around him to a UD
Come on man, I have seen you posting on here for ages, and you know your shit. You can't be serious.
Look, I rate Ali as the best heavyweight ever. But his competition in the 60's was crap. Of course part of it is because Ali's talent was so brilliant, he made his opponents look feeble. Still, his competition consisted of ordinary talents who took turns beating each other (Terrell, Williams, Folley), and second raters (Chuvalo, Mildenberger, Cooper, London). His first title defense was against Patterson, who had been annilated twice by the guy he just KO'd twice. And he really was the best available contender.
Eddie Chambers is a small heavyweight, and I'd pick him against any Ali opponent in the 1960's, except for maybe Liston.
Ali is the greatest HW of all time. /end thread!
Greatness and head to head match ups are two different things.
Marciano is obviously greater than David Tua, but personally I think that's a bad style match up for him.
Terrell was much better than Tony Thompson. You're being ridiculous.Terrell beat top fighters like Eddie Machen, Cleveland Williams, Zora Folley, Ingemar Johnason, and George Chuvalo. What top rated fighters has Thompson ever beaten? His biggest wins were Dominique Guinn,Timar ibrigimov and Luan Krasniqi. Either you're misinformed, uniformed, or just a delusional Klitschko fan. It amazes me when people like you try to discredit Ali to make Klitschko look better.
Terrell was a big heavyweight (for that time), and most of those guys would be cruiserweights now. He never fought Johansson BTW. Terrell was a mechanical one armed fighter with no punch. He wouldn't win one minute of one round against the Klitschko's. He was also KO'd by Williams, and totally exposed against clubfighter Thad Spencer right after he fought Ali.
And I'm not discrediting Ali. He proved his greatness when he had the better competition in the 70's. I'm just saying he fought a bunch of leftover garbage during his first title reign. It wasn't his fault, and he never ducked anyone. Just like Wladimir Klitschko.
why do you haters always try to bring up hypothetical matches to try and diminish Wlad's career.
"Muhammad Ali will took Wlad" ok so, does that mean Wlad is a bad fighter...... stop bringing up this shit, either admit wlad good, or shut up
this thread= fail
Agreed. These fantasy matchup threads too often seem to be about discrediting or diminshing a current foreign fighter because fighters from the US aren't doing well against him today. It's all rather sad I think.
I said "among the 3 best heavyweights ever", I didn't say "better than Louis, Ali, Foreman". Big difference!
With another 10 title defenses against mandatory contenders (even if we think they're bums) without losing a fight and barely a single round he'd be in the same league.
We may not agree but boxing historians will rank him right there.
Sven Ottke must be a legend to you.
Sorry, no matter how much you try to hype up BS defenses (not speakign specifically about Wlad), real fans know better.
Well, Ali himself had height and reach advantages over most of his opponents. It is hard to say how he would have performed against skilled and powerful puncher with perfect jab as Wladimir. On the other hand, Ali had more difficult fights and was more plastic than Wlad. Anyway it's all about preferences and speculations now.
Wlad can defend his title against another 100 bums and he still won't be considered greater than Louis, Ali, Foreman or HolmesI said "among the 3 best heavyweights ever", I didn't say "better than Louis, Ali, Foreman". Big difference!

If Wlad can survive the next 3-4 years without losing a single fight and simply defending his belts and blow away all mandatory challengers he will easily be considered one of the 3 best heavyweights ever.
4 years, 2 fights a year. That's another 8 fights. He would then retire with a record of 62 wins, 3 losses and winning 22 title fights. He just has to protect that china chin and not get hit.

seems right...although wladimir would not be easy to dance with in the boxing ring...
The Klitschko's are about 20% bigger then Ali. It's the same thing as saying a light weight would toy with a middle weight. Ali fought in a more competitive era. But head to head it would be tough for Ali.
ok , lets look at the heavyweight division atm , there all bums .. except JT (james toney) , i keep wondering why the klitchko brothers have faced everyone but JT , i think emanuel steward is telling them not to fight jT , coz they would look very average
I favor Ali over Wlad but to say it would be easy or even worst "that we would toy with him" is plain ridiculous. His size (nearly 6-7) skills and talent alone would make him a very live opponent.
ali is overrated...he struggled vs wepner.......vitali >>>>wepner....not saying, vitali would win but it would be pretty close fight imo......
Ali beat up Wepner in just about every round. There was no struggle. Stop posting about fights you've never seen.
The Liston win was huge (well the first one), but Patterson was washed up and Terrell wasn't any better than someone like Tony Thompson.

Exactly. Ali didn't toy with a lot of good fighters. Maybe Liston and Terrell.
Ali is a matchup that actually favors Wlad until you factor in Ali's will and stamina versus Wlad's average stamina. Ali can win on attrition alone.
This, this says it all.
If we're being honest, then you have to say that Ali's competition in the 1960's was even worse than Klitschko's.
If you were being honest you would admit that Sonny Liston is better than anybody that Wladimir Klitschko has ever fought.
Word. Even a mid-sixties version of Cleveland Williams would destroy most of todays fat, unskilled HWs.
No, he wouldn't. Williams was very ordinary by the time he fought Ali. Try looking at his record.
