So Jermain Taylor gets KTFO and gets 3 days in hospital because of concussion.
Andre Dirrell gets illegally KTFO and has a full-body seizure as well as concussive symptoms in the post fight interview.
You'd expect Dirrell to be rushed to the hospital for a long stay right?
Wrong.
He was there for a mere 3 hours.
NEW YORK (AP)—Super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell is recovering from a scary incident during his fight Saturday night in Detroit, in which he took a blow to the head while already on a knee.
Dirrell had slipped on some water in the corner when he was laid out by Arthur Abraham in their second fight of the Super Six World Boxing Classic. Abraham was immediately disqualified.
Dirrell promoter Gary Shaw said Tuesday that his fighter spent about 3 hours in the hospital after the fight and sustained a concussion or, perhaps, a seizure from the blow.
The scene that unfolded at Joe Louis Arena generated more negative publicity for a novel event backed by Showtime that has struggled to sustain interest. It has been beset by injuries and delays.

except we all saw the shot. It was a lighting fast left hand. In slow motion you saw his entire face ripple with the force of the blow.
Dirrels just looked like a small punch.
If you call that a small punch, sit on your knees and have your friend punch you on the chin like that after running like 3.5-5 miles...
But with that being said it did look liek he was faking a little bit, boxers mainly cover their eyes like that after being hit in the middle of the face not on the chin, if he was knocked out, he should have been layed out the other way, his hands should have dropped to the side...and he should have been laying on his right side...
I watched it live, watched the replays, watched it again ad nauseum and it wasnt thrown with murderous intent, furthermore,Dirrell just about caught the edge of it. If you watch the replay angle from AA's left side it clearly shows the direction of any power actually going in a different direction.
Thanks for the physics lesson. You really convinced everyone with this brilliant post.
bat is the new tunney...
my brother passed out the other day, smashed his head on the floor, convulsed a bit and he didnt even remember how he fell, just that he felt weird before...i had to wake him up.....
he was doing shit normal in no time...we even boxed the next day and i got my ass kicked, as always
Wtf???
Does that mean you wont make me a sig?
Batt,
Dirrell was really hurt...even when he was in the hospital he was still hurt...but he faked being OK so they let him go after 3hrs
As you can see in this thread him staying in the hospital a mere 3 hours is inconclusive. He left hospital because the scans came out ok. So it's inconclusive as to wheter he faked or not. Had it been standard to keep concussed fighters at least under obsevation overnight we would have an indication of him faking. But since they would have a guy who definetely was not faking out in 2½ hours I suppose it's possible that Dirrell both had a full body seizure as well as a severe concussion.
You also live in a country with quality healthcare.
You know they were in Detroit right? To you, if you were to go to a Detroit hospital, you would be convinced you were in some 3rd world country.
But on the reals, if they ran all the proper tests and they all came back negative (just like my friend) why keep him overnight?
I don't know, maybe you're a doctor Bat and I'm not aware of that and you have expert knowledge on head trauma, concussions, seizures and the likes, so maybe you know something we don't. But if you're not a doctor, then perhaps your assumptions are baseless and hold no water.
Ricky Hatton looked like he DIED in the ring against Pacquiao and he was up and chatting with people like nothign happened moments later. Did he stay at the hospital overnight? Oh shit, nope he didn't!

this was some brutal pwning
bat, you are REALLLY stretching here and it's a bit annoying.
Listen, I was personally with a friend of mine who took a nasty fall right on his head, he was knocked out cold. He was talking within about one minute. He had a bad headache so we took him to the hospital. They did all the tests necessary and we were out of the hospital in 2 hours.
Was my friend knocked out cold? Yes. Does that mean he had a concussion? Yes. Did he need to stay in the hospital for 3 days? NO.
Obviously jermain taylor had been brutally KO'd and was also brutally KO'd 2 out of the 3 fights leading into that fight. Totally different bro-ham.

Good post. Very true.
I can talk from experience when I tell you, if you really would had knocked down they would never ever let you leave after 3 hours. I got knocked out at a major college judo tournament, because I got headbutted and was thrown unconscious. I had a bad headache and my left bodysite was tickling. So I was brought to hospital for magnetic resonance tomography and computer tomography. Although I felt okay after some hours they kept me 3 days and I always had to wear some heartbeat detection... so decide on your own.
well if you would have read the thread you would have seen where Bat posted an article about one of the most brutal KO's ever and the guy was only at the hospital for a short time. So yeah, your argument is invalid.
The point is that you take a incalculable risk, when u get that early out of the hospital. Every boxer knows that and would stay there, if he knows the knockout was badass. If a blood vessel is damaged, but not cut - and you don't see that magnetic resonance tomography - you stay of course in the hospital for some days. If the blood vessel opens you can be dead within some minutes. No fighter with a brain left, would take such a risk. Fact.
yeah... but dirrell wasn't brutally KOed in his last fight, like JT was brutally KOed by Froch and before him Pavlik.
If you read the thread it appears that it's standard procedure in the US to perform some neurological tests and if they are ok you're sent home. It's different in germany and Denmark but so it is.

Dirrels just looked like a small punch.
I jsut checked the newspaper reports on that fight and it appears that it's believed that Brown had a short seizure. He stayed in hospital for 2½ hours and the CAT scan came out negative. Although this fight was some 15 years ago it indicates it not being standard in the US to keep concussed fighters overnight. I'm a bit surprised, but we can all get wiser.
Here's an article:
Good find. I hope the people saying that because Dirrell didn't have a concussion he was "faking it" read this.
Did you ever see Simon Brown-Vincent Pettway? I suggest you watch that because it refutes everything you're saying about Dirrell. And Brown didn't stay in the hospital overnight.

Here's an article:
But Brown's words of reassurance came after a stunning, if not frightening, scene Saturday night that led to Brown being taken to a nearby hospital and given a CAT scan. "It was really a blessed outcome given what happened in the ring," Brown's brother, Fred, said. "Everything turned out normal. There was nothing that indicated a need for concern."
Steven Manekin, a neurosurgeon at ringside who said he is affiliated with the Maryland State Athletic Commission, said, based on "the movement of his extremities" while he was unconscious on the canvas, he believes that Brown suffered a seizure. Manekin said Brown was unconscious "a minute or two" and that the seizure ended in seconds. Brown was administered oxygen in the ring, then was examined by doctors, including Manekin, in the locker room for almost an hour.
Neither doctors nor Brown's family determined an ambulance was needed, so a friend of Brown's drove him to Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, accompanied by Brown's wife, Lisa, and Brown's brother. A hospital spokesper son said yesterday she could not confirm that Brown was treated because records of any visit could not be retrieved until today. Fred Brown said his brother remained at the hospital for "about 2 1/2 hours," then returned to the fight headquarters hotel in New Carrollton, where the Browns were staying.
