AA is a fighter who needs the other fighter to wear down a bit. He baits a fighter into hitting the gloves enough and tire out. When the fighter gets closer in the mid-late rounds, he makes his move.
This has worked on a number of his opponents, go watch past fights and you will see this.
This will not work on Dirrell. Dirrell is not the type of fighter who will engage to the point where he will tire himself out on the outside punching and fall on to the inside range of Abraham. Dirrell, boring as it may be, is a puncher who hits when there is something to hit, and stays at bay when there is nothing to hit. He is quick enough to do this with his opponents. Abraham is too slow to out-quick Dirrell when it comes to this. Dirrell and Abraham will come down to too conservative punchers picking there spots. I believe this will force Abraham to get into the kind of fight with Dirrell where speed and footwork will play a HUGE part in determining the outcome.
Taylor was too willing to engage and his stamina was shit. Miranda was too willing to engage and his defense was shit.
Dirrell is not as willing to engage, can outbox Abraham, his stamina is good and he has a sizable height advantage.
Abraham could always get lucky, but there is a difference between gettin lucky and outwitting your opponent. I will take the guy with the brains in this fight. I think it will matter more.
I could compare this to Ali-Foreman, except Foreman would have a peakaboo defense and throw half as many punches. Too smart, too quick, Andre Dirrell by UD.
Comments/Criticisms always welcome
i simply would just wait for abraham to throw. as if to so cmon this is a fight.. id stand in the middle of the ring with my hands dropped. and encourage or dare him to throw a punch so i can counter
i think he can win........but AA is alot smarter than he gets credit for......he is very composed and relaxed in the ring........he doesn't panic when he is behind on the cards.......have a feeling Dirrel may be overwhelmed by the enormity of the task.....i got AA on this one.
dirrells stamina is not all that great, he was very tired in the oganov fight....his body also does not look very strong at all......he is open to the left hook on the ropes....that said he has done very well against short opponents so i am picking him to beat maybe even stop abraham....
I thought his stamina looked decent in the Froch fight. He still had fast punches and even hurt Froch in the championship rounds.
Without the height advantage, this would have been much easier to call. Great points TS. I'm still leaning for an AA KO anything less would be a Dirrell win (courtesy most probably of the 3 judges). I'm thinking that as soon as he feels Dirrell's power, he would let go of his hands more ... rather than just waiting for opportunities. Also, the knowledge that the 3 judges could be biased might spur AA into going for the KO early which does play well into my prediction. Lolz. :D
If AA makes it in to a war Dirrell doesn't have the chin to win.
The whole point I made is that AA doesn't have the speed or style that can bait Dirrell into a war. If anyone chooses to make it a war, it will be Dirrell who has that choice.
Think back to Mayweather-Gatti. Mayweather had the speed and know how to effectively break down Gatti without making the fight a war. Dirrell is not Mayweather, but he possesses the kind of quickness advantage over Abraham that Floyd had over Gatti.

This post makes a very good point but I think you might be underestimating a bit arthur abraham's ability to tire his opponent through bodyshots (even without great technique) and through walking dirrel down always posing the risk of a few wide swings.
Abraham isn't as sloppy as Froch, and certainly not as open. He has a better understanding of how to effectively pressure as well. I don't think Dirrell is disciplined enough to keep Abraham from landing the big shots he has to.
Totally agree with the op, Dirrell enjoys so many physical advantages in this fight it's crazy, height, reach, speed, movement, skills etc, he'll have been hurt after he got robbed so badly against Froch but in a recent interview he claims that it's only made him determained to improve his game and that he's been working hard in training to address certain things like less clinching, throwing more combo's, using the jab more etc, i think this is the fight where Andre finally makes a name for himself, i actually think he might embarrass AA to be honest, i think he'll be in and out with quick combinations and towards the latter rounds AA isn't gonna know what to do, especially when Andre switches styles, is AA any good against the southpaw stance? whatever happens i can't wait to see it.
Uhhh Froch was on his ass against JT in the third round, JTs not really known for putting people away. AA went 7 rounds with a broken jaw hanging off against Edison Miranda (KO%= 80) and didnt even fall once. So how you just decided that AAs chin is shaky and Froch's is solid is pretty surprising for people who have seen them both fight.
I didn't say AA doesn't have a good chin. But I think the speed/height advantage of Dirrell is greater than the power/chin advantage of Abraham, and enough so that he will win comfortably
And Froch has an Iron chin.....Arthur is moving up & has been rocked by Miranda at MW so who knows maybe a few solid shots & a great upper cut which Arthur is open for & Dirrell throws well and we have Abraham on his back.....hmmm. it's possible although unlikely. The upper cut will be the key for Dirrell tho if thats going to happen.

For the most part I agree with your reasons & I certainly agree Dirrell will win Saturday night. He won't run out of gas, he'll use his speed, footwork & ring generalship to out class a vicious as usual Abraham but I think as long as Dirrell can avoid getting caught with the big one/ones he can win this fight......
for the most part thats how it is...He has to not get hit with a good shot. how hes gonna do that... i duuno! AA will catch him. If he can take the shot and stay movin...he has a good chance, but hes gonna have to fight as well or may give it away! Good fight to watch...
I think he will let his hands go more. His confidence should be up after the Froch fight. He knows he can fight 12 rounds and compete with a world champ. That has to do something for him. He also hurt Froch a few times, which must have helped.

If he wins it's because he lets his hands go and works more than he moves. AA waits for his man to cease throwing before he makes his move. Steady flow of punches can win it for Dirrell if he wills himself to do it.

Abraham's guard will block most of everything, and his chin will hold up. not so certain about how Dirrell responds to Abraham's spurts of aggression. Arthur will have Dirrell against the ropes and in the corner and unluck Froch, will have him hurt and running (not just running)
Abraham doesn't have the height neutrality that Froch enjoyed during their fight. Dirrell will look much more comfortable staying out of range in this fight.
