I said from day one I wasn't ordering this fight because I said Paquiao was too fast and Clottey did not have the output to win a decision or the power to knock him out. I saw it as an uncompetitive fight and a slap in the face to boxing fans.
What happened?
Exactly what I said from day 1. And no I didn't order this or stream it.
Aside from that, I was listening to my local radio show and this guy was sounding off on the fight. Said there was nothing interesting about it and said that boxing fans need to boycott these events in the future. I guess I'm ahead of the curve because I wasn't about to spend my money on a sparring session.
So tell me, if Pacquiao and Mayweather doesn't get made, what joke of a fight will Arum come up with next. I don't like Mayweather but at least he's fighting a threat. Clottey was born to lose against Pacquiao and it's a shame that many people in a stadium had to get the impression that "this is big time boxing".
its not pac's fault he walks through top WW's with ease. And it also wasn't his fault it was a boring fight. Floyd has been at WW for 4 + years and has mosley is his first top WW fight and he waited until the guy is 38 years old. Manny has been at WW for 3 fights he took one money fight against oscar, then ricky at 140, and then cotto and clottey, and he easily beat all of them. Right now it doesn't seem like anyone will be a risk for manny, I really don't think floyd stands a chance, unless he easily beats mosley, than maybe i will change my mind.
Pacquiao showed his amazing skills against a top five WW and if you don’t appreciate it, that’s your loss. Who would you suggest he should have fought instead, Mayweather wanted nothing to do with him, Mosley was signed to fight someone else, and he already took care of Cotto. So he went after the next top guy available on short notice with little negotiating hassle which was Clottey. Although I wasn’t expecting Pac to lose I was expecting Clottey to be more competitive which was disappointing, but I enjoyed what Pac did anyways. Either way Pac put on a clinic, and boxing got a lot of exposure, they filled a stadium with 50k+ on the name of a non-american fighter, no one else out there can do that. Every major media source covered the fight and he does what he always does, which is try to entertain the fans.
How big is Pac naturally? He is a force fed welter weight (7000 calories a day to maintain the weight and training schedule) on a more “natural” 3000 calories a day I believe he is probably a junior welter weight. So yes he is beating men who are naturally larger than him, and like the other poster said Mayweather is beating men who are smaller.
As if malignaggi wasn't orginally a proposed opponent for Pac. May may have fought March 13 basically as a favor for GBP, which had the date reserved for a while. The fight would of been overshadowed by Pac's, and May would have faced the Mosley Berto winner afterwards, since Pac. would have not budge on the drug testing. Considering May said at the begining that Mosley was the plan B, if you think it took a "act of God" to get May to fight Mosley, you really are a dumb f###.
Ah, quit your bitching. A complete shutout by Pacquiao of a guy that has never clearly been beaten before. If it was Mayweather, we'd hear about how it was a boxing clinic. At least Pacquiao tried to make a fight of it. He could have easily just retreated from rounds 7-on and still got the win, but he kept fighting to try to please the fans. Who else does that?
Nobody does it. He was still throwing hard shots in the final round. I can't fault the performance. Yeah so what if he took some shots, he was open to being countered over 1200 times, so it's gonna happen, plus he even invited Clottey to hit him, same as the Cotto fight. The fact that he gets hit is part of the excitement though, at least he was willing to take a few to get his own shots off, which is the exact opposite of the guy he was fighting, and it's why Pacquiao is a popular fighter. Still, both get criticized for their performances. I don't get it.

Marquez put up a better fight than Clottey.
He wouldn't at WW.

Marquez would have had a better chance against mayweather at a lower weight. The man jumped up so much weight to fight Mayweather. Too much of an advantage.
Pacquiao beat a naturally bigger man
Mayweather beat a naturally very smaller man.
How big is Pacquiao? Naturally?
Is he now natural? Was he fighting well below his natural weight in the past?
If so, one would have to say Pacquiao has been the naturally bigger man in the majority of his fights.
Naturally.
The local ESPN (101 ESPN) station here ripped the fight as well. They thought the card was terrible from top to bottom. They thought it was rigged by Bob Arum and that he is trying to protect Manny and keep making big money off of him. They also went it about how a main event like that should have NEVER been held in a stadium like that.
^^^ Great post.
People keep down playing the win on Clottey. But a win against Clottey is better than Mayweather's win against Marquez.
My 2 cents
Marquez put up a better fight than Clottey.
Word on the streets is Floyd Floyd is trying to send Venezuela a message by fighting Valero.
Couldn't guess what street that is. Word on the street is that Mayweather especially, and any GBP fighter in general, isn't going to fight a top rank fighter anytime soon. The real word on the street is that Valero is being brought up through weight divisions to serve as Pac's plan B, but you didn't hear it from me.
These so called boxing Gurus piss me off. They talk about boxing becoming a dead sport, then they say things like boycott this and that, pricks.
The point is our dollar drives the fights they make. If Pacquiao-Clottey brings in great PPV buy #'s, why should promoters risk putting Pac or other fighters against guys that have an actual chance to win?
I agree with you on the "boxing is dead" crap though. That's just pure ignorance. Boxing is doing great, especially on a global level.
if Floyd woulda had it his way, he would be fighting Malinaggi
At least Malignaggi would've stuck his toungue out and made it interesting. Clottey didn't even try from what I hear though.
I did see that gif of the double punch though. Now that's priceless.
