WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander defeated Juan “Iron Twin” Urango by an eighth round TKO to successfully defend his crown and capture the IBF title Saturday night at Mohegan Sun in Uncansville, Connecticut.
Alexander (20-0, 13 KOs) was only narrowly leading Urango (22-3-1, 17 KOs) on the judge’s scorecards before he rocked “Iron Twin” with a thunderous uppercut in the eighth round.
Urango, 29, courageously managed to get off the canvas despite being obviously dazed.
Nevertheless, Alexander landed yet another vicious uppercut on Urango moments later and the referee halted the contest with a tad more than a minute remaining in the fateful round.
“Our whole training camp we practiced that uppercut,” said Alexander, 23, who hails from the gritty streets of St. Louis. “Speed kills. I had too much speed for him.”
The three-time PAL national champion is extremely quick and powerful, and his southpaw stance will inevitably create problems for all of his future opponents.
“I’m ready for anybody now,” said Alexander. “I’ll take on Zab Judah (38-6, 26 KOs) or Tim Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs), whoever they put in front of me.”
Barring any unforeseen events, Alexander will become the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world within the next five years.
He has all the necessary tools and abilities to dominate any pugilist that he encounters in the ring.
“Alexander the Great” is ready for anybody and he is one prizefighter who will have a long and supreme reign in multiple divisions.
I disagree. Maybe in the P4P disscussion but not P4P #1
Thoughts?
Devon definitely has the talent, but he must improve his defense. His last fight was an improvement but I'm just not sold on Maidana. I thought Devon used alot more head movement, pivoted and circled alot better than his recent fights, instead of just backing up straight. If his defense improves, I can see him in the top P4P list...
yeah right, Alexander the twat is nothing special
he's a good fighter, nothing more
he lost to Kotelnik, Bradley, and Lucas, the 3 best guys he's fought
no way he convinces anyone he's the best in the world
he'll get a couple belts and maybe have a decent career
but the twat isn't going to the very top
THANK YOU
Alexander is nothing special, his performances speak for themselves.
And he clinches way too ****ing much

The writer made the prediction way to early.
It really looks bad because of Kotelnik right after. Really should have waited until he got in the ring with Bradley.
Sorry, I admire Devon's guts, the guy's a real fighter, but this article was not a good prediction. Devon isn't that good.

He needs to avenge that Bradley loss. That might get him closer to top 10 P4P in The Ring rankings. Going to be harder to do now since Bradley is with Top Rank.
Seeing how Bradley is ranked top 10 p4p shows how close this prediction was to being right.
So he still has three years before P4P greatness.

I want to see:
Alexander vs Valero (if he moves up)
Khan vs Bradley
Peterson vs Ortiz
IMO, all these fights allow these guys to be tested mentally. All except Bradley and Peterson because I think they're "there" mentally already.
Im a fan of khan...but bradley would kill him at this moment in time...
Ortiz i think can be an amazing fighter....he just needs to make sure he aint getting hit too much, or running into punches...once he does that, hes got the offense of a champ
Id say alexander will be a great fighter....but lets see a few more fights before we jump on the bandwagon
that's too bold of a statement to make right now, imo. The guy is good and he has crazy potential, but lets not jinx it.
^^^ This.
I can imagine what will happen. As soon as Alexander loses, he was a "bum".

Interesting.
How do feel about an eventual Peterson-Alexander match-up.

i think im the only one but i wasnt that impressed by alexander he wasnt really in control of that fight with urango up until the uppercut landed and that was for sure an early stoppage. i think alexander will be a solid champion but i dont see him beating bradley when they eventually meet up
