I know that bringing a fight to Yankee Stadium is a big deal and I'm genuinely happy for Yuri Foreman to be getting such a big fight, but from where I'm sitting Miguel Cotto is shot and beyond that just too small to compete at 154. I'm having a hard time getting myself excited about the Foreman-Cotto fight.
im excited as hell...and i hold cottos fate.......theres only 2 fights i havent gone to in the last few years and thats his fights with margarito and pacquiao so im 100% sure that as long as im there hes winning
I think Cotto has a huge pshychological hurdle to overcome. He is not the same fighter he once was.
I wish him luck and most likely will be at Yankee Stadium but I think this fight is up in the air as far as winners.
Good thing they sell beer. Ill be happy.
Good point, but I feel that Cotto will be too powerful for foreman. Foreman does ave good boxing skills but he hasnt got the power to hurt cotto.
To be honest I’m not, I’m Puerto Rican and happen to think Cotto’s best days are now behind him. And I think Foreman has a golden opportunity to win this fight.
I agree with you man, but I do think that Cotto is going to give him a good fight... I hope this one doesnt end in a stoppage, I hope it goes the distance and is a total war, but i dont know how Cotto is going to be able to cope with punishment if he starts taking it, I just dont know....
I'm excited- and it looks like I might be in the minority there.
It's not that I feel like Foreman is an exciting fighter, but for whatever reason I don't want to think Cotto is shot. I mean, he clearly had problems with Manny Pacquiao, and took a real beating against Margarito, but those were very poor style match-ups for him. I mean, Pacquiao is fast, and can bang, and Margarito was pure pressure at that stage.
Maybe I'm just rooting for Miguel because he always seemed to take decent challenges. I mean, he fought decent opposition at 147. Quintana, Mosley, Judah, Clottey, Margarito and Pacquiao; that's not a list of chumps there.
So, yeah, I like Miguel and I think the Margarito fight is what really damaged him mentally and physically. I really want to hope that solid, confident boxer can reemerge at junior middleweight. Foreman doesn't have much pop, so if he's going to get back on track at a higher weight, that's the right guy to do it against.
I want him to reemerge at 154. So, yes, I'm excited.
HBO will throw a lot of money away on this fight, and they will have a hard time fitting other more crowd pleasing fights in their budget because of it. I know I sound like Hauser, but it's real talk.
The down side to all of this is if Cotto does win and wins a strap at this weight class he may be tempted to actively compete in it and then have to worry about other 154ILb monsters (i.e. Angulo Martinez to name a few) both in which I favor heavily to beat Cotto.
I know a lot of people on this board aren't trying to hear this, but Cotto is shot. A winning streak at the world class championship level is not at all likely. He's going to keep fighting because he sells tickets and a lot of people still believe in him, but he should seriously consider retiring.
Pretty hard to get excited about any fighting involving Foreman.
But I would like to see Cotto win another title in a third weight class.
agreed 100% on both
Foreman is tough on the eyes
and it would be nice seeing Cotto go out with a third weight class title
i wanna see this fight,i know cottos best days are behind him but i still think he has enough left in the tank to stop yuri,i hope im right i wanna see cotto win a title at 154

i too am not enthused about this fight
I'm excited about this one, Only because it's Cotto.
Foreman is naturally bigger and has good movement but he has not faced a fighter in the same class as Cotto. Foreman is average imo.
Cotto will win, likely by stoppage but overall it won't be an impressive performance due to Foreman's style.
One thing is for sure, it is not as dangerous as a fight for Cotto. At least he has a much lower chance of getting hurt or taking a beating in this match.
But yes, I'm excited for Cotto's LMW debut.
