Can you please elaborate on how he ruined Roy Jones Jr? In what context did he do this? In what kind of state was RRJ's career that deems it ruined after Calzaghe beat him?
Exactly... just like you dont know he stripped exactly 14 pounds of muscle and then 10 pounds of water... you wrote it out like you were with him on a daily basis.
What we do know is this dude at 199lbs didnt have an ounce of fat on him.. and at 35 years old.. he had to make 175lbs... a fighter whose legs are his most important asset... A dehydrated Roy Jones is a bigger deal than other fighters because he relied so much on his reflexes and his legs, for movement and defense, moreso than the typical fighter..
That is exactly what happened to Jones Jr. It is also the reason I predicted how the Tarver fight would play out. It is of course why I also predicted Chris Byrd's knockout loss to Shaun George when Byrd thought he could drop to light heavyweight. You would think history would be a good lesson for these guys, but no they have to learn the hard way.
am sure the weight drop didnt help and the fact he was old for a boxer look what happend to oscar came in with chicken legs and looked a shadow of what he was.
in history class we watch old roy jones fights
goegraphy is about where jones has been around the world
maths is how many left hooks jones can throw within a second
English we learn phrases like
pensacolaindahouse
yallmustveforgot
andstill!
I take it your not from the Gospel of Jones school like tehMatrix?

You dont know if that was really the case. Its been a while since Ive seen some his pre Ruiz fights but im sure come fight night he was always 185+lbs.

I am just saying.. you cant use that as a valid reason.. because a fighter says hes ready to go? What fighter hasnt?
That would make no sense, he was obviously suffering through the process and used the scales to check he ws on target. His made 185 lbs, so he decides to lose another 5 lbs, whats the point of that?
Jones fight night weights(HBO):Ruiz(199), Tarver I(185), Tarver II(180), Tarver III(187)
How does it not make any sense?
20 pounds of muscle + 5 pounds of water = 25 pounds = 175
5 pounds water + 5 pounds food = 10 pounds = 185lbs.
i was dehydrated once, when you get tired during training you just wanna fall asleep, i could barely keep my eyes open during sparring, also breathing hurts....all messed up
agreed. it didn't totally kill him imo, but that shit can't help your chin. if your nutrition isn't right, you get knocked down and you feel like you weigh 1000 pounds.
On top of the fact that you cant move your damn legs...
So.. really.. he got down to 175lbs.
From a 199lbs of pure muscle, to 175lbs... at 35 years old.. no 24 hour rehydration period is going suddenly restore you to 100%.

Im not sayng that it would, but he did say he was fine for his fight with Tarver II
I am sure he did...
He also said he was 110% for the Calzaghe fight
110% for the Danny Green fight.
Hasn't lost a step.
Still the fastest cat in the game.
I mean... if he said it.. then shit...
How do you know he didnt lose 20 pounds of muscle, and dehydrate 5 pounds of water... and simply put on 10 pounds of water AND food?
Certainly you eat more the day of the fight, especially rich carbs for energy.. then you do the before the weigh in..
He went from this:

at 35 years old...
He got down to 185, then sweated down 10 lbs to make 175lbs

Its comparable if you take into account the time frame. Roy had to lose 14 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks compared to Chris having to lose 6+lbs of muscle in 1.5 weeks.
199lbs to 175lbs is not 14lbs.
at 199lbs he was pure muscle no fat or water, he was not blown up...
In order to get down to 175 he had to strip down his muscle AND dehydrate a shit ton of wate ron top of that...
You dont fully recoup that kind of 6 week strip down in 24 hours...
Just because he put on 10 pounds in a night, doesnt mean his body is back to normal now.. especially at 35 years old.
getting batterd by actual "punches" for 9 rounds then getting ko'd and smashing your head off the canvas only to wake up 10 minutes later, and i imagine his head must've been ringing a couple of days after
yea, getting slapped is definitely worse....
anyway
i think the tarver knockout ruined him, personally
Of course the Tarver bout ruined him psychologically. He's never fought the same.
Jones was only 193lbs against Ruiz, he had 18lbs to lose, welterweights lose more than that :1point:
People need to understand there is a difference between Fat, Water, and Muscle... and a difference in what it takes to lose each of those..
