I rewatched the fight for the first time. I haven't seen it since i saw it live. The fight was closer then what i looks like at first sight. Joe's aggressivness and swarming style makes it look like he hits more then he actually does. Roy took the first and second and then lost three in a row to Calzaghes workrate. I had Roy winning the sixth on clean effective punching especially a monster uppercut in the middle of the round. Seven was an even round. Calzaghe took the four following rounds with Roy having great problems with his vision because of the big cut he got in round seven. The last round Joe did nothing and Roy did close to nothing but scored two or three good punches.
Roy was embarrassed,He was made to look a complete fool.
Joe had his gloves down and stuck his face in Roys face all night long..even HBO were shocked at how Calzaghe was making him look foolish.
He was a punchbag for ten rounds, like he was Greens punchbag for one round.
He should have retired when Tarver and Johnson destroyed him.
I agree, Roy did nothing after the knockdown really. It was sad to watch, because even when JC had his hands down Jones was too scared to let his hands go. He hand hand plenty of chances to catch JC but didn't. If he was going to bring his Dad back that was definitely the fight he needed to bring him back to prepare. Not for Sheika or Lacey.
people dont like to admit it but calzaghe was taking bombs and he got tagged hard going in on occasion
people just ignore that cuz joe made the punches look like nuthin, if he see's a punch he can take it, joe had a grean chin
Threads like these are the reason why many people think foreign fighters never get respect in the US. Even if you win in a dominant fasion like joe did americans will try to make it out like it was a close fight.
jones would have won a split decision according to the judges from the dirrell-froch fight.
My head tells me Hopkins, my heart says Roy. I do hope Roy wins though it would be a nice way to end his career.
I think he will have a better chance then against Calzaghe.

How will Hopkins/Jones even look.
Who will be the aggressor. Both are strictly counterpunchers these days.
I guess Hopkins should be the one who forces the issue.
Fighters who tend to rely on athletic ability over technical ability tend to have short primes. Jones should of learnt his defensive fundamentals or retired post Ruiz. But hindsight is always 20/20 as they say.
I watched his fight with Toney again the other day, back in the day he was something else.
Retiring after Ruiz or fighting Chris Byrd or Holyfield would have been good.
Jones knows the fundamentals but he still want's to be Superman Roy Jones, showboating and fighting with his hands down.
If Roy want's to he can still fight guys like Lacy, exhibiting his skills. Problem is he dosen't want it that way. He want's the top guys. We will see what happens April 3.
That's how I had it.
What's the other round people are giving him? the second?
Joe was already taking the piss out of him in the 2nd round.
Roy landed a great uppercut in the 6th. Apart from that and the flukey forearm he didn't do much. And willingly played counterpuncher and had points piled up against him. Joe took the piss to incessantly because actually Roy wasn't really engaging.
I gave him the 12th round where Calzaghe decided to coast to the victory.
Jones won one round. That's it.

I never been a big Jones fan, but even I found that fight hard to watch. I think I stopped watching after round 6, I would of preferred it if Jones went all out and got Koed then take such a one sided beating. Im still not sure what happened after round 2 its like Jones just quit.
Thanks for tha laughs and Happy New Year as well.
I don't see Calzaghe having the power to stop even that version of Jones. I wouldn't say that he quit, he tried to get Calzaghe out of there or lower his workrate by countering with powershots. He didn't belive Calzaghe could take his power. He was wrong and after round seven he could only see good with one eye.
You make a good point.
Roy would win in his prime but he wouldn't be dominate.
Calzaghe is a awkward southpaw with alot of speed, good chin and high workrate, thats never easy to deal with especially for Roy who appeared to have trouble with lefties throughout his career.
I agree with you both, whether people like him or hate him, Calzaghe was a great fighter and would be a handful for anyone.
