I just feel people tend to overrate him to a certain extent.
Althought Russel Jordan was a tricky opponenet, I was expecting him to be more impressive that he was. Getting a pretty lacluster decision win.
I often hear him called the future etc. And I just don't see it. I have also seen him struggle in sparring with Jose Benvaldez, and he was caught with some eye catching shots against a 17 year old Lightweight.
I have also seen him struggle in some amatuer bouts, do he was a great amatuer.
I just feel there are much better prospects out there than him. And I have my douts wheter he will win a world title never mind being the future of Boxing.
He seems like a nice guy, so nothing against him. Just stating my opinion.
And I feel people just boast him up, due to him posting on here.
I can't help feel he is very overrated!
I think he is the future. He should take 6 months off though and work on 2 things
1.His inside fighting, its really really poor.
2. Stop that ****ing jumping around.
and maybe 3
3. strategy. He didnt really know what he was doing out there last night. Getting inside or going outside?
what y'all think of this?
It's hard to ask for more at this point. 13 fights, 22 years old. Nobody is saying he's the second coming of Ray Robinson, but he does show a ton of potential.
Don't confuse support for hype!
Good comments. Porter likely isn't as good as his previous KO win made him appear, but I'm betting he is a lot better than he looked Friday night too.

People think he's overrated at the moment, but that's only because he got so much attention being Pacquiao sparring partner. If he was an unknown fighter, people would just write him off as green and very young. We'll see how he turns out. He maybe a future pound for pounder or he might be the next Jeff Lacy.

give the guy a break,i though that was a great fight, yea he made some mistakes but hes still learning, jordan had every advantage on porter but he did well,he needs to sort a couple of things out and he will do fine, only his 13th fight chill
Give it time. He fought a really tough and really awkward guy that is hard to prepare for. What i saw that i liked was good combinations and high stamina. I wanna see him fight an average sized guy ro really guage his skills.
I think he's going to be a damn good fighter. Jordan is no pushover. He lost to Collazo and Sergio Martinez, but so would alot of guys. It was a step up, and Porter tasted a little leather, but he still dominated the fight. He has all the tools, but he needs to stop that bouncing shit. A move to 147, like he previously discussed, seems like a good idea.

If people on here giving him support is overrating, then so be it.
I have rarely seen anyone say he is the future. Infact I don't recall that at all, but anyway, he's young at 22, and his lack of height and reach at 154 is going to be his downfall.
He was thinking of 147 with his dad a few months ago and that is a better place.
He will only improve and that sparring video with bernavelve or whatever was him taing it real easy and not starting. He actually posted that on here.
It was sparring after all.
20 fights is the time to really judge a guy. Talking about him? Well why not, he posted on here and was real nice. What's there not to like and support him for?
Let the guy develope.
Against a 7 inch taller southpaw this early in his career, he's bound to look bad.
Shawn is 22 years old, I'm sure he'll learn from this fight and improve. He's got at least 3 or 4 years before he'd be a serious contender, I think people are being a little too harsh on him.
So am not on my own then.
And saying he is a better prospect or would beat Kirkland, is insane.
If Kirkland wasn't a loose cannon, he would be a world champ by now. That man had some raw talent and power.
Hope's his best days arent behind him now.
Paulie.
I think he's being a tad overrated. I saw something in his last fight even though he scored an impressive knockout that, well, didn't really impress me...at least as far him being an a future elite fighter.
Jordan was obviously an akward opponent with a 7" height advantage so I'll give him a pass to an extent but we'll have to see how he does against other step up opponents who are more "normal".
