Although the argument that boxing in jail is not the same as boxing in the Olympics/amateurs is a solid argument and does make sense for the Soapy supporters; The fact is that Roy Jones was not even in his prime yet when he beat Hopkins in 93! Jones had one more pro bout than Hopkins (21 or 22 I forgot how many exactly). Jones did indeed fought Hopkins with one hand(just watch the fight).
Other fact is, they were both young and they were both each others first real pro challenge and their first shot at a major title(IBF).
All this talk about Hopkins was green needs to stop because they were both simply untested against top opposition. Hence why it was a close fight(although a clear win for Jones). They were eachother's first challenge at a pro stage, man. That's all i'm saying.
Who ever don't agree? You know what, I guess...
They are both old, yes it's true, but let's not ignore the fact that Hopkins is a P4P fighter and Jones is a past prime fighter. The topic of this thread was there 93 fight was not the mismatch people are making it out to be. They were both young and neither of them were in their prime yet.
i know alot people will disagree with me but i see roy still beating b-hop in april,b-hop wont attack him and roy will use the jab and win the early rounds.it will get tight later on with alot of holding because they are both old now but roy will take a close decision,i really hope this happens
lolz....
i got 150K on hopkins.....

I can see this to. I truly don't think Hopkins has the power to KO Roy and Roy is still able to box both on the inside and outside. Some days i think it may happen and some days i just can't forget the Green fight and Roy going into his defensive shell like he did against Calzaghe. It depends on which type of Roy shows up on April 3. If it is the right one i think Hopkins will need to really work.

Hopkins hadn't evolved to what he would become and was greener than Jones - but not so much that I thought it drastically affected the outcome. I wonder how people watch that fight and not notice how "green" Jones looked.
well er uh...i don't think jones had evolved to what he was to become either...was far from the fighter who put hill and griffin on their backs within 5 rounds...thats the fighter hopkins avoided when jones said "60-40"....
forget all this "hopkins was green" and the even more absurd "greener than jones" mess in '93....why don't you just say jones was the better fighter in '93 and leave it at that....why is it always some greater excuse when it comes to hopkins...?
am a big roy fan but hes done has been for so long now if he beat hopkins which is very unlikley he will go on and get sparked bad by some1 else
Hopkins is a top 10 P4P fighter. If Roy beats him he should retire so that he can retire on top. Especially if he beats Hopkins decisively. If he continues fighting then he should get a real easy, smaller, opponent with a known name(Hopkins style) just for the money/his fans, TKO him and then retire. But i'm good with a win over Hopkins then retire.
The Green loss definitely took a lot out of this fight. But i'll def be watching it. I mean, it's better late than never.
Never would have been better if Roy dosen't find a way to pull this one out...
i was in shock when that happened and felt so bad for roy
Yeah and it's sad they haven't even overturned the decision and give Roy his gold medals.
It's a fight with 2 guys I'm a fan of, so I'll be watching. But I wish it wasn't happening after Roy's loss to Green. And no way I pay to see it. Stream or pub FTW.

Green, prime or old, if Jones beats Hopkins now there should be no excuses. He'd have beaten a young Hopkins and an old one. Prime vs Prime just forget about it.

ToTal agree with you, good post
Are you sure this is your own PERSONAL thoughts? It's not someone elses is it?
Can we have your non-personal thoughts as well?
Wow, I take that as a compliment:lol1:
Shit reminds of my first year in college when my English teacher couldn't believe I was writing my own shit (since I am Hispanic I guess a Hispanic can't be that smart). I wrote about 3 different essays in class, in her face, then boom! I became the teachers pet and my essays were used as examples of what a good essay is:lol1:
But the hate only makes me want to show off more, so don't even get me started. This is a boxing forum, I write like a child here compared to my college work. I'll have you frustrated, googling to see where I "copied and paste" from and find nothing:)

TS i absolutley right. People forget that Roy also was unproven against top opposition. They act like it was on of Bernards first pro fights and Roy already was the pound for pound king.
Seriously, people act like Roy was this proven pro and Hopkins was no where near as experienced. They were both in their first major title fight, Roy was better. It's that simple.
