At the end of Showtime Boxing 360 did anyone else notice how big Jermain Taylor looked? I think that at this stage of his career he needs to fight closer to his nature weight, and staying busy with tune ups couldn't hurt either. Looking at his resume shows that he is consistently fighting guys with everything to gain because he is a former Olympian and former undisputed champion. Looking at Jean Pascal I think Jermain Taylor could hold his own at Light Heavy and look impressive if he's allowed to mature at the weight and not rush for only big fights.
I know there will be some that say he's finished but I'm looking for constructive comments for our former champion that not only conquered his stuttering problem but really fought the best of the best.
I agree with most of that except not beeing a big puncher. He's the only man to drop Froch and Pavlik.
Yes not finishing them tells you about his bad finishing skills aswell.
But still I can't rate him as a big puncher,he hasn't knocked anyone out in 5 years and certainly not anyneo of note.
IMO he's a good but not tremendous puncher.
I'm not saying he looked necessarily smaller but at least as physical strength he was not up there.
His issues are not his skills, his skills were always somewhat overrated,it's just that his problems are more acute now.
His stamina has been a problem for years not just recently,he always gets tired,he always goes on the ropes(altough lately he didn't but it still didn't help) when in trouble,he can't hide his right hand after firing his jab(it's that bow and arrown thing Manny Steward talked about),he ain't a big puncher, his chin seems diminished,he's terribly gunshy now, etc.
I like JT but he is undeniably past his prime if not shot.

I don't think he looked smaller than the guys at super middle weight my nukka. I think he can hold his own his issues are not that he aint got the skills no more it is that he fades in the later rounds as we have seen in 2 of his three last fights. Even against lacy he could have taken him off of there if he pushed it but I didnt think he had the sauce left to grease him up ya feel me brah. He needs to feel comfortable at the weight and getting one fight with Lacy and then jumping into a fight with Froch and then Abraham was not the way to get comfortable at smw. People are saying he is done it is not like he lost to Espino or Gary Lockett he lost to 2 world champions. Nothing to be ashamed of. i don't want to see Taylor hurt either but I think you can define being hurt in more than one way. To go out and retire the way he will if he decides to not come back may be worse on the soul that to actually get hurt. A fighters pride is all he has in some cases.

Would make no sense to move up other than fighting in a weaker division.
But it's been said and done,he said so hismelf he can't carry the weight,he seems smaller than these guys at supermiddle and even as a middle he was being fed junior middles and welters.

Taylor himself said as recently as a year ago that he would never move up to light-heavy; in his words, "I'm just not that big."
I agree he looked buffer than usual at the end of the Fight Camp episode last night, but he ALWAYS looks bigger between fights. Yeah, he's probably added some muscle but that's what he needed to do simply to SURVIVE at super-middle.
i'd love to see that :boxing:
yeah I didn't say get in there with Chad Dawson... But it could happen or JT could get KO'd again if he came back without preparing correctly, then I'd say he needs to retire.
Why? So he could get be hit by even stronger men? Jermain needs to fight some low level contenders or feather fisted fighters for a while...
He definately needs to face a couple of stiffs to build his confindence back. Not having to kill himself making weight would allow him to focus on his boxing skills b/c he his a naturally big man. But again I agree facing a acouple of feather fisted fighters like Hugo Garay, Joey Spina.
Light heavyweight would be too high for him.
If he couldn't take the punches from guys at middleweight and super middleweight then I don't think he'll do any better against the guys at light heavyweight.
I hear you but if you know anything about making weight it can severely weaken you. IF you have followed Jermain Taylor he's definately packed on the muscle and as you become older you naturally retain more weight. Pascal is a classic example, at light heavy he's got a hell of a lot more endurance and he's become a champion. Remember Chad Dawson was once a middleweight but we know that he wouldn't be undefeated if he was still at middleweight or even super middleweight.
Jermain Taylor will come back and as the underdog knockout Chad Dawon in 2011 who will be the Undisputed LHW Champion of the world. He will then retire as a legend.
