Jack Johnson had AMAZING power in his punches!
His KO percentage is 39.6%.
Well lets be honest, Jack Johnson was a defensive fight but to say he had no power is ridiculous. Jack Dempsey had a KO% of 61% which is OK for an average puncher but we all know Dempsey was a monstrous puncher when he needed to be.
Gene Tunney had a KO% of around 50 I think and we know he could punch too. Johnson was one of the first defensive fighters and though his power wasn't that of Dempsey it was still formidable. I think Dempsey would beat him but to disregard Johnson would be foolish
Both were a similar weight, Floyd might have been a little heavier and faster. Jack however, for a little heavyweight was a HUGE puncher. Easily stopping world class 200+ pound guys during his prime.
Floyd crumbled under pressure though a lot of people judge him from the Liston fight, Jack was the HW that many people see as the first guy to use fear to beat an opponent (though fitzsimmons might be the guy they should see as doing that) I think Jack would have knocked out Patterson but Floyd would give a good account of himself before Jacks determination, aggression and super human power got to Pattersons chin which wasn't great
jack johnson got dropped by a middleweight stanley ketchel.
dempsey knocks his boring ass out.
According to the Ken Burns documentary on Jack Johnson, "Unforgivable Blackness," Johnson had "promised the promoters not to knock Ketchel out." Ketchel had, in turn, "promised not to try to win." Stanley apparently tried to pull a fast one on his old friend Jack and snuck in a hard right. Johnson got up and immediately knocked Ketchel flat. Jack brushing Stanley's teeth off his glove is famously documented on camera. It's clear, even on ancient film, that Johnson was toying with and literally carrying Ketchel.
Jack Johnson was one of the greatest defensive heavyweights in history. Jack Dempsey was a savage, force-of-nature type of fighter, an idol of Mike Tyson. I don't think it's very clear who would've won a match-up between the two.
"jack johnson got dropped by a middleweight stanley ketchel" WHAT HAPPEN TO KETCHEL? He got knocked the f@#KED out !! with his teeth in the gloves of JACK JOHNSON?
Yeah.
Floyd was a great fighter.
But he had almost no chin.
A ton of heart though.
And the great Custamato at his side.
"Custamato"? lol, never seen it in print have you? sry, the Italian in me had to say something
and I think Dempsey could have beaten him

Johnson hit hard enough to KO Fireman Jim Flynn. The same fighter that knocked out Dempsey in one round. Bet you didn't read that one on your racist website.
Actually he did, just not once he had become champ and had Tex Rickard as a manager. He also signed to fight Wills twice but Wills people were notoriously difficult to negotiate with and when there was no money behind the deal it didn't happen.
Dempsey's manager didn't want the fight and he killed it. I don't know where you're getting this idea that Wills killed the fight but it sure in the hell isn't true..in fact it's historical BS.
P.S. Johnson never fought any of the top blacks either once he became champ
But he did fight all of the top black fighters. Something Dempsey and Jeffries never did.
and he got the shit kicked out of him and KO'd by Joe Choynski early on, when they were in jail together after the fight for a few weeks (for mix race fighting) Choynski showed Johnson alot of the defensive skills that he became renowned for, Johnson himself admitted this.
So after a few weeks in jail, Choynski turned Johnson into the fighter he became...yeah ok.

Don't place the word fact after nonsense you write, especially when you have no clue wtf you're talking about.
He has a shot however, i think if were talking patterson before the injury its a solid fight. Overall though, Patterson might actually end up chasing around the quicker dempsey, dempsey also has a bigger punch. i dont know, i just dont see how patterson wins unless he catches him.
Jack had pretty fast hands too and a great chin. Floyd for me lacked workrate, he only seemed to really turn on the combinations when he had his man hurt.
Either man could win but I'd lean towards Dempsey.
