I've been watching some of the winter games and was wondering something.
Who do Filipinos born in the US cheer for?
I'm a non Filipinos and I find myself cheering any athlete in Red White & Blue, regardless of the persons skin color.
I mean I seems funny to me because, if you only cheer an athlete because of there race isn't that racist?
If a white person cheered only whites because they were white, wouldn't we call them racist?
I've seen a lot of pinoys on here being very disrespectful, name calling and what not.
First it was with Mexicans, now its Blacks. I'm just wondering what the deal is.
Don't be afraid to be honest, blanket PC answers will be taken as cowerdis. So just be honest, is this racist?
so what.. not all Filipinos families are the same..
Also I have a Mexican coworkers and all he talks about is Mexican fighters.. I also have a Black friend and all he talk about is Black fighters..
See where i'm going with this...
I didn't say they were all the same. Read the first sentence "From my experience." That's it.
In my opinion though, I do believe that when it comes to the overall sport of boxing, many Filipino's are only Manny fans, not boxing fans. They're not going to buy a Floyd or Oscar fight on ppv, but they're go to the bar to watch Manny.
He is a culture superstar. I'm not hating on him or Filipino's, I'm just stating my opinion.
If you remember in the 80's, Tyson had millions of fans, most of which weren't actual boxing fans, but they would watch all of his fights.
I'm positive there are many Filipino's out there that love all boxing but I'm afraid the majority of them do not care about anything else that goes on in the sport, or any of the other top contenders. I've talked to people that when we talk about boxing, they talk about Manny like he's a god, that's why you can't have a conversation with them. They're die hard Manny fans, not boxing fans.
Not all, but a lot.
I believe its more nationalism than racism. Alot of my Filipino friends are extremely proud of Manny because he's considered the best in the world. They aren't necessarily racist because they love black athletes. They cheer for American athletes all the time and they have alot of respect for them. But when it comes down to a Filipino athlete vs any other race, their probably gonna cheer for their own. I know when I see a black fighter against a fighter of a different race, I tend to cheer for the black dude. I don't think that makes me racist. I think alot of guys on this forum feel the same way. Its pride, not racism.I can really respect that answer, thank you. Don't know anything about these green and red Ks I see people speak of, but u have my respect.

I'm cheering for the Canadian hockey team and the rest of Canadian team!!!Go Sydney and Jarome!!
I think what you mean is nationalism and national pride! No racial discrimination whatsoever.
every american knows this shit...lots of you are so quick of puuling the race card when it favors you....i cant get a job because im bvlack, cant get promoted coz im black, they wont give me a cigarrete coz im black......quit that shit already man, its 2010......dont do to others what you dont what others do to you......dude, why the hell are u soo angry? And I agree that "some" do pull the card. Speaking for myself I have never pulled it. But I was simply asking a question, not starting an argument.
We all know it exists but I have always believed that once you get to know a person, race doesn't matter.
From my experience, most Filipino's aren't boxing fans. My GF is half Filipino and her dad doesn't watch any boxing outside of Manny. All the men in her family are the same way.
And me being Mexican is annoying sometimes because they all talk that "Mexicutioner" bullshit.

no disrespect to the TS,
we all need to determine what is a nationalistic standpoint and its difference from racial favoring.
im no US national/citizen or whatever you call it..
but i get where filipino US nationals supporting pac are coming from..the pride that somehow the fan and the favorite originates from the same country.its just that the fan is of different nationality now.

Excellent post. Will send green K as soon as I'm allowed to give it.

Why based your opinion on just one family. Would you believe I also have a Mexican friend who's family only cheers for Mexican fighters?
same way how you think im not.....
When you find where I have ever made any inference to your racial identity(like you have done) let me know. I don't even care what it is. All I know is that you're as ignorant as you can possibly be. Stop trying to communicate. It's embarrassing.
why did'nt you use el jesus's example when he said FILIPINOS root for filipinos?......
Probably because I respect his opinions. I have no respect for your infantile comments.

Go fukk yourself. Seriously. You definitely do not represent any credible filipino opinion.
interesting that you did'nt notice what the ts did......i guess its ok for blckas but its not for everyone else......coz they are always the victim.....hmmmn,ok
Why do you assume the TS is black genius? This wasn't a "pro black" thread.

Interesting how you use blacks as the prime example. Not surprising considering that you're semi literate.
