Hey guys can some one please explain to me why the weigh in is always the day before a fight. Ive just been lookin over some fights, and notice alot of boxers pile on up to 14lbs between the weigh in and the actual fight! NEARLY 2 WEIGHT DIVISONS. I cannot see the logic in this, if the weight is there so that both boxers are evenly match, do u not think it makes sence that the weigh in on the day so that they step into the ring at nearly the same weight.
Let me know u thoughts guys
Some examples
Fight ---------- Weigh in -- Fight Nite - Diff
Manny Pacquaio --- 138 --- 148 --- +10lb
Ricky Hatton ------- 140 --- 152 --- +12lb
Bernard Hopkins -- 170 ---180 - +10lb
Kelly Pavlik ------- 169 -- 174 -- +5lb
--
JM Marquez -- 134.5 -- 140 -- +5.5lb
Juan Diaz ---- 134.5 -- 139 -- +4.5lb
Shane Mosley --------- 147 -- 160 -- +13lb
Antonio Margacheato -- 147 -- 160 -- +13lb
Just a bit confused lads, ......What is the fu*king point in the weight divions if the boxers are actually going to stroll into the ring 14lbs heavier than they are meant to?????
No, my point is they should be fighting at SMW, not WW. Skip the charade of a weigh in and just weigh in what you are gonna weigh when you fight.QUOTE]
My point exactly!!! Mosley will weigh in at 147 and rehydrated to 160 or so give or take, while floyd will possibly nly rehydrate 3lbs... as he is a natural WW. Giving , Mosley 10lbs advantage... ND THEREFORE INCREASE HIS POBBIBLITY OF A KO:boxing:
goddamn...i hit 20K talkin about weigh-ins...i was gonna make a 'fukk the celtics' thread in the lounge for that milestone :nonono:
Another thing how is it nor fair for Williams when he LOST at WW.
Oh and congrats on the 20k.......cunt.
so if Williams rehydrates to 168 and fights Clottey who rehydrates to 170, it would be unfair?
The most Will ever weighed was 164 against Q the first time. He said he let himself go and was out of shape.
The dude cant even make 160 on the nose. He gets stuffed with gritts just to weigh 156. For Middleweight fights.
Hes a twig with almost no muscle.
Thank you for proving my point. Guys like that are once in a lifetime.
Tommy Hearns had no business at WW.
Not cruiser, but maybe smw. Thats still a lot.
Hearns is one of the best WW's ever. Boxing doesnt not have height and reach classes. So Mike Tyson should be a 154 Pounder and Cabrello should be a Middleweight?
like where? i'm not too aware of state athletic commissions that still have that here...im sure there might be but do you know which states?
I know that Ohio did a same day weigh-in for some fight, back in January. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Ohio only does same day weigh-ins. The Pavlik vs Espino fight had a before day weigh-in.
He's full of it. He doesn't walk around at 152.
:lol1:
hat's your walking around weight?
P.W: Oh, I walk around at about 155,something like that.
Correction its 155.
Thats absurd. The "rules" are written by the cheaters. See the the governments of the world.
In the case of someone who is 6'1 trying to fight at 47' it almost never happens.
This is why I don't blame anyone at WW for not fighting Paul Williams.
If I was an average WW 5' 9 or so, I wouldn't give up that much advantage to some clown who drained himself to make it into my weight class.

How is walking around at 150-152 draining yourself to make WW.
Williams is a twig.
If you're 6'1 and you pre-meditatively drain yourself make a weight where you KNOW that you will have a 20 pound advantage on the night of the fight, then you are a cheater.
So Jack Margarito is a cheat then???
If you're 6'1 and you pre-meditatively drain yourself make a weight where you KNOW that you will have a 20 pound advantage on the night of the fight, then you are a cheater.
How is that cheating> And where were any rules broken?
:wtf:Like the massive weight avantage:wtf::wtf: that Marquez had on him!
yeah because its not like Floyd didnt have 39 other pro fights? Go check his fight night weights. At LW he came into the ring at 138 pounds, at 140 he came in at 143, before retirment he entered the ring at WW at 146 pounds. Guys like Castillo & N'Dou were 148 at LW, Cotto came into the ring at 157 pounds at 140 and Hatton, Gatti, and Tszyu were similar. Baldy was 165 when Floyd fought him at WW. Floyd didnt even make the 154 limit and was probably like 150 on fight night. These are facts. Thats why it use to trip me out when people said dumb stuff about him fighting smaller guys. When was this? Like once or twice? I remember seeing Floyd fight Baldy at WW while coming into the ring at 146 and Baldy at 165. At the same exact time Pac was down at 130 coming into the ring at 146 pounds. Its a joke
They don't, actually.
Is it just a Canada regional thing? Because they had the same day weigh in for the Sonsona/Hernandez fight. I'm not sure if I remember the Guzman/Funeka was.

To be fair mayweathewr said in a 24/7 that he is always in shape and has no problem making weight.
That the way all professional fighters should be in my opinion like ricky hatton putting on 40 fu*king pounds between fights WTF???? That is a DISGRACE for a 'professional' athlete
Natas explained it good, should be sufficent. Some do it for size advantage some do it for other reasons. Whats important is 24 helps protect the fighters and fighters who are at home in the same division should rehydrate roughly equally. Only time it might be a little weird is when someone moves up in weightdivisions but they can still take their time and grow into the division.
TS, thats why you have to give Floyd props. No one thinks about that but he was consistently barely putting on any weight after the weigh-ins while other guys would gain 15 pounds like its nothing. Thats a huge advantage

It should be quite obvious that people cut weight so they can fight in a smaller weight class.
For example, f you're 6'1 and you can fight at welterweight, then rehydrate 15-20 pounds over night, you will have a huge size advantage over most all welterweights.
