Clottey is one of the best WW's today, why all the fuss about him vs pac?

It helps if you can reach the guy you're trying to hit especially when he's already naturally a much bigger fighter. I have to agree here... of course there are no height rules... if you can make weight you can make weight... But the question must be allowed that first of all what is boxing for you and then why are you interested in seeing Williams-Pac? Boxing to me should be a contest of skill... the only interesting thing with Williams is if Pacquiao can overcome the size... and that has nothing to do with a skill-full contest to me. A 5'6 guy vs. a 6'3 (dude is def. not 6'1) or whatever he is... of course you can say skill should overcome this obstacles but what's next... Williams should fight fighters his size (guys like Pavlik) and then he can show off his skill... Pacquiao should never fight Williams... Pacquiao also should never fight Foreman... 147 is physical his absolute ceiling... if he trains he still eats like a god to come close to 147... so 154 is ridicilous and Williams too... If Williams is a good as ppl think he can find guys who are his size and weight and doesn't need to beat up midgets that's my opinion

i think it's a good fight...i believe he beat cotto...i believe he has it in him to beat pacquaio...i ain't trippin...i won't order it...but i will see it...

he's got a shot, he busted Cotto up pretty bad regardless if he lost, he's physically strong as well. this fight is good. While Mayweather is ducking and avoiding good fights, Pacquiao is taking on the WW division one step at a time. I don't think there is much negative fuzz... it's the typical hater-shit going on... First off everybody thought Pacquiao would came out better with his choice of opponent... Floyd topped him now with Mosley... Both fights are good... I think Pacquiao will win but I'm not 100% sold on him as welterweight... and I don't think he will hit Clottey enough to soften him up... Clottey will be there for 12 rounds and will land more then Cotto did... question is if he can gets his head into this and throws a little more... if so... an upset is absolutely possible... should be a good fight

This is who I think is better at WW than Clottey... In no particular order: Pacquiao Mayweather Mosley Cotto Margarito Williams Berto Clottey falls between 7-9 with Collazo and Quintana. Mayweather - fight ruled out during negotiations Mosley - had a fight with Berto at the time Cotto - already KO'd him Margarito - serving a ban, same height as Foreman Williams - 6 ft 1 Berto - was fighting Mosley at the time With that in mind Clottey is a decent choice.

bingo! to me it reminds me of the Baldomir fight for Mayweather lineal this true champ that yeah yeah but Baldomir was nothing more than a good WW and with a style tailor made for Mayweather same scenario IMO if you shit on Floyd fighting Baldo back then you should shit on Manny taking on Cotto I don't think people shit on Floyd fighting Baldomir, they shit on the fact he's the only geunine WW Floyd has faced since moving up to that weight.

I think that Clottey is definatley one of the best welterweights out there based on strength and power. But look at his foot/head movement, very limited. Joshua is a very technical boxer and uses his power and strength to pressurise his opponents. Personally I think it is a decent decision for Pacquiao to fight CLottey, but a better opponent would be Timothy Bradley. HE is the best 140 pounder at the minute and he deserves a shot at one of the big boys.

Its a solid win against a prime Top 5 WW opponent. The issue is that Clottey is taylor made, he doesn't stand much of a chance, but that doesn't mean I'll discredit the win. To beat Pacquiao you need someone who can mix his offense/ defense; Clottey aint that dude. Then you have to factor in that Clottey doesn't have quick feet, decent power at best; then it becomes clear to see that this is a waste, no offense. Also, it's hard enough to see Pacquiao, imagine having to find Pacquiao with a peek-a-boo stance. He should have fought Floyd Mayweather. We all know that fight should've happened but it didn't so Pac had to look for someone else, so who is it? Bradley and Williams were availible. See my earlier post on Bradley, all he has over Clottey as an opponent is media hype, the Ghanian Clottey has no hype machine, Bradley would get killed in there. He is 100% not a tougher opponent than Clottey. Re. Williams, he's 6ft 1, height was the reason a fight against Foreman was ruled out. Foreman is 5ft 11, Clottey is 5ft 8. First off, he obviously should have agreed to the drug tests and fought Floyd. I think Timothy Bradley would be a decent call. But don't get me wrong, I do not think the Clottey fight is a bad fight, I just believe it is a stay busy fight that proves absolutely nothing that Pac has not already proven. I think it is crazy when people try and say how much this will bolster Pac's resume because Clottey is world class and better than Marg and Cotto. These people are either biased or ignorant. Take this fight for what it is, a stay busy fight against a B class fighter who is a tough guy with a good chin. It is a guy who is tailor made for Manny to look good against. No power, no speed, average footwork, stands in the pocket type of fighter. Let's see how the fight plays out, I think it'll be tougher than many think. It makes no sense on Bradley's part to fight Pac at this stage of his career, it would be a brutal ko 3-4 rounds in, maybe not even that long.

Mosley was lucky to fight a Margarito without his wraps. Wraps Tony used to win the lineal title against Margarito. Doesn't take away from the fact that Shane lost to Cotto, who was beaten by Clottey in the eyes of many. Cotto deserved the win, Clottey blew it by just covering up in late rounds and waiting on Cotto to start the action. That is not how you show judges you want to win a tight fight. We had a thread about this and alot of ppl agreed that over all Clottey is better than Cotto. Maybe he did those things because he was not good enough to initiate the action without losing rounds. He was getting hurt by some of Cotto's punches and tried to counter. You act like Clottey lost the fight on purpose, that he didn't do enough, but the reality is that he COULDN"T do enough. Not to mention the brutal cut on Cotto's head that came from a headbutt that obviously affected his performance over the course of 10 rounds. Wheres the thread? Who said that? Do you think there is a chance that many people saying this had ulterior motives for doing so?

This post is just awful. You are attempting to say that Clottey is better than two fighters he lost too. I can't listen to biased arguments like that, because they are not ground in FACT. Clottey is not world class, he has done nothing to prove he is other than make competitive fights with guys that are barley even considered world class to begin with! Cotto and Marg? please. Clottey has done nothing but lose his biggest fights. That is not world class. So who should Pac have fought if not Floyd?
