Im just wondering how his brick wall defense will hold up against Pacquiao. IMHO, i believe it is just about the sole factor that will determine the outcome of this fight. If Clottey can block those shot and not get banged up, he might be able to just lose a smooth, non-brutal decision. If he can't, then Pacquiao proves he is much stronger than Margarito and Cotto (again). What do you think?? Will his defense hold up?
Notes: I dont believe Clottey can do much to win as even if he is unphased by Pacquiao's punches, Pac's high activity rate will surely coast him to a comfortable decision. I dont think Clottey will do much to Pacquiao not because he lacks the ability to, but because we all know Clottey to be lazy and passive. I also do not see Pac hurting Clottey at all, as I believe his defense will hold up, but then again, it might not. I've also been thinking, what if Pacquiao just rips the body, could he take Clottey out like that???
By now, Clottey knows that he will never win a fight against elite fighters if he just turtles around. Turtles aren't exactly favored by judges if ever it comes to a decision.
The biggest problem for Pacquiao isn't Clottey's "size" nor his turtling. It's Clottey's "accidental" headbutts. If he manages to place a good one on Pacquiao then Pac will bleed which will lead to a doctor stop or fighting half blind. It's dirty, but a win is a win.
If you can't mix your offense/ defense...then your defense is pretty much worthless against Pacquiao. Clottey like Abraham can't mix the two, he's either on the offense or defense.
great great post... I can't see Clottey winning this fight in any way or form... Actually Abrham is about to loose to Dirrell as well the week prior because of this same reason
It'll work in that it'll keep him from getting hit as much as recent Pacquiao opponents but I doubt it'll win it him the fight. His defense is really good but at the same time it hinders him because he has to totally switch to offense and then back again, against the top guys it's worked against him, like when he was knocked down by Cotto in the first round, wasn't hurt or anything but Cotto just managed to time him when he switched. Pacquiao should be able to time him too, to a more devastating degree.

i think it will be to many punches to block some will get through, look how it went against Cotto, he repeatedly found Clotteys head, and if Cotto can do it Pacquiao can too. (no disrespect to Cotto, Pac is just better.) as this goes on, more and more punches will find its target and break him down. i see a late stoppage, but it will most likely be a wide UD. (like 119-111 or 118-112)
just looking forward to the fight :D
I agree with it will be a smooth decision for Pac and non brutal for Clottey.
I think Clottey will revert to being defensive the whole fight once he sees Pacs speed.
He has to smother Pacquiao and impose his size on him pressure wise and ware Pacquiao down or hes going to lose. He cant expect to stand and try to counter Pac all night.
