Pacquiao-Clottey tickets on fire on first day of sales

NEW YORK -- Sure, most boxing fans really, really wanted to see pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather on March 13. While that fight isn't happening now because of their inability to agree on how to handle drug testing for the bout, the public seems to have accepted with open arms Pacquiao's replacement fight.
He's going to meet former welterweight titleholder Joshua Clottey on HBO PPV on March 13 in the first boxing event to be held at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, outside of Dallas.
In just the first three hours of public tickets sales (preceded by three days of limited pre-sales) on Saturday, more than 20,000 of the approximately 40,000 available were gobbled up. They ranged in price from $50 to $700.
"Ross Greenburg and I are very gratified that the public has responded like they have, and we are happy for our partner (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones," Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told me on Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden Theater.
Arum and Greenburg, the president of HBO Sports, were sitting together shortly before the telecast of Top Rank's doubleheader, featuring featherweight title bouts pitting Steven Luevano and Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa and Rogers Mtagwa.
Arum said if the demand for the fight continues the capacity of the stadium, which is 100,000 or so for Cowboys games, can easily be increased.
"It's going to be quite a night," Arum said. "And Jerry isn't just a one-event guy. If he sees this as a success you can be sure he'll do more boxing in that great stadium."

The bad thing about Dallas is what is there to do after the fight LOL.
I hear there's a club called "purgatory" in dallas that's supposed to be 1 of the best in the country.
I think the gate will do extremely well. Probably not PPV numbers tho. Should be a real good fight Pac by UD or late stoppage
IDK if this fight gets 50,000 or more,I think it will get alot of media
attention. And get alot of casual fans interested.
Great news. I just wish HBO'd do a 24/7 series instead of just a Countdown to give it the profile it deserves. Because I don't know about you guys, but I don't see Pac just blowing out Clottey. Pac has power, but this guy will have 20 lbs. on him come fight time. He should be able to tek Pac's ponches better than Cotto, since both Cheato and Cotto weren't able to put a dent on him. His peekaboo counter punching style just doesn't allow for beatdowns. And he's never lost to southpaws and actually dominated speedsters like Judah.
Even if he fails to pull off an upset, you can be pretty sure Clottey will cause a lot of wear and tear on Pac. TBH, I'm not sure Pac will come out of this one still in his prime. One thing I'm sure is he has balls of steel.
the reason why they won't do a 24/7 is because it wont raise ratings or anything, i mean.. lets be honest that 24/7 wouldnt be that interesting, HBO probably just doesnt wanna spend/waste the money on it.
im sure this fight will do just fine
Yes. For all we know, the PED accusation of the mayweather's just made pacquiao a bigger household name, lol. You know what they say in showbusiness, there's no such thing as BAD publicity, only MORE publicity.
we should thank floyd then
pac is like in the yahoo/google top 10 topics for weeks because of floydie

Try www.expedia.com
I worked with expedia before.. Just book it using your credit card and just print off the itinerary. After you booked it you can verify with the hotel or call expedia 1-800-Expedia if they have your reservation. I have the authority before to give $50 discounts to anyone but my account is no longer existing,
Word, that's what I did. I went through expedia twice before, easy and no hassle. The link for hotels helped figure out which hotel I want to stay at because I don't want to take a taxi to the stadium.
You ever go to a club called APT in the meat packing district in NYC?
Have fun Ray, with those big screens you would be able to spot Clottey's pimples from the Janitors room.
:boxing:
Try google bro. Have fun.
Google for flight and hotels? Or ticket prices?
Got 4 tickets for 80 dollars each, Visiting Dallas for the first time Via Arizona.

You guys need to book now, you can get a flight and hotel for 350+ coming from Cali.
Try google bro. Have fun.
How many did Oscar do in El Paso against the unknown french guy, I would figue this could do close to that or possibly better since Dallas is a larger market then El Paso.
40k was pretty modest from the start although probably a lot of brokers buying in but they will probably open some extra seats atleast once and would not be suprised if it was twice (although that does kind of screw over the ticket brokers).
This is great for boxing.. Doesn't matter if you are a pacquiao fan or not, if this becomes a successful event hopefully it'll take more boxing events out of 15,000 capacity casinos and bring them into stadiums like dallas that hold 50,000+ helping the sport grow for future generations
