When Pacquiao-Clottey was announced there was a sense of relief due to the bitterness the Maywheather-Pacquiao negotiations left on all of boxing. Everyone, including myself, was excited at the intrigue such a fight would bring. Pacquiao, the loveable guy, with his relentless and powerful style versus Maywheather, public enemy numero uno,the ultimate pugilist and arguably the best pure boxer this generation has produced. Unfortunately, we all know how it all fell apart. It seemed as if Pacquiao had found a legitimate dance partner in Clottey and Floyd was left out in the rain. Now, With the possibility of Maywheather-Mosley there is much debate regarding who has the toughest challenge, who is facing the better fighter, or better yet, which is the better fight? Looking at Mosley's and Clottey's resume won't answer that questions,as Sugar has faced better competition, and is a sure HOF'r. On the other hand, Clottey is a very good fighter, with good defense and decent power, but what are the chances he'll ever see Riverside or Canastota? However, with that being said, Mosley's best days are behind him and has been inactive since the Margarito fight. So, if the 2010 Mosley were to fight Clottey, who wins the fight? Please support your choice with sound logic.
So far it's 22-8 in favor of Mosley. I thought it would be a bit closer than that. I guess most people believe Maywheather chose the toughest opponent.
Styles make fights.....Mosley is a tougher opponent for Floyd than Clottey no question...but that does not mean shane automaticaLLY BEATS cLOTTEY.....
Shane wins...
Not so sure about that...sylistiaclly Clottey matches well against Shane IMO. He is a defensive fighter with a high guard who times you coming in and moving out and picks his spots to engage....but always behind the guard first.....a bit like Winky.........
I see Clottey giving Shane some big problems if they fight......

People also forget that just 2 fights back Mosley was literally 2seconds away from losing a UD against Mayorga.
It was an ugly fight but Mosley was winning on the score cards so no he wasn't 2 seconds away from losing.
__________
Anyway Mosley would beat Clottey. Clottey has the tools to win this fight he's just not active enough he fights at a slow pace that wouldn't make Shane's age apparent.
They do have a similar style. Margarito is essentially what Mayorga was in his prime. One thing i will give Margarito is that he is and was always far more disciplined than mayorga.
But i think Mayorga has a better jab, better speed and more power.
Better jab, yeah, we all know Margarito's jab is his jaw. Better speed, that too. Power, I don't know about that. They both have decent power. From what I have observed Margarito's overall technique is better. His swings doesn't have as many loopholes as Mayorga's. We've all witness the haymakers and windmills. I'm not saying that Margarito has flawless technique, but it's not as bad as el matador's. Margarito also has better ring generalship, sets up his opponents well, has a higher boxing IQ, and executes his game plan. Mayorga just goes out there and gives us some much needed entertainment. A classic case of all brawn and no brains. But, I don't mean that in a derogatory or bemeaning way, just in a strict boxing sense.
You state that "no matter how you look at it Mayorga is a better fighter"
Mayorga being a better fighter than Margarito is debatable. In my estimation, Margarito is a better all around fighter, but everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Why do you so strongly believe Mayorga to be a better fighter? what skills does he possess that so greatly and clearly distinguish him from Margarito. If anything, I'd say they have a similar style

we're talking about a margarito that perhaps for the 1st time lost the ability to hurt his opponent whatsoever because his plater hand wraps had been removed.
And no matter how you look at it Mayorga is a better fighter than Margarito. All Margarito ever really had going for him was that he's a really tough S.O.B. that just always kept coming.

Styles make fights. Mosley lost to Cotto and Clottey almost beat Cotto. While Margarito was beaten by Shane, Clottey was beating Margarito too until he broke his hand. Clottey does have a
nice jab like Forrest, and a shell-like defense ala Winky, but willnthis be enough to beat Shane? Probably not a prime Mosley, but this old version that lost to Cotto and had a hard time with Collazo, probably yes IMO.
Clottey was winning the fight, just barely. By the way, Clottey did not break his hands. He complained of having pain and discomfort, but whether he hurt his hands or not it doesn't matter he lost the fight. Clottey did clearly win the first few rounds, but Margarito has always been a slow starter. Even more important is the fact that Clottey always finds a way to lose big fights. Shane on the other hand destroyed Margarito. Although we know for sure Margarito didn't have an unfair advantage for the Mosley fight,we have now way of knowing if he did have extra padding aiding his victory over Clottey.
I think that Shane is a better fighter now that Nazir is in his corner. He is a smarter trainer than Jack Mosley.Shane looked like his old self in his last fight and much more confident.Shane still has his hand speed and still KO power in both hands.(Just ask Margarito and Miyorga.)Even though the fight with him and Miyorga was close,Shane proved that his power is still at full tilt in the last rounds, which makes him very dangerous until the last bell rings. With his hand speed, work rate, power, and overall skill,I see him beating Clottey by ud.And with his experience and stamina in championship fights, he could possibly get the KO.

Hard time with Collazo? WTF?
Mosley would probably win by decision, the tight guard that Clottey has could frustrate him at times like Winky's did but Clottey doesn't have the jab or the consistency of Wright.
Your right. I recall how fortunate Shane was to win that fight in the closing seconds. But remember that Shane has a much better trainer in Nazim and also the fact that Shane probably lacked the motivation to train properly just to face an overmatched Mayorga. Just look at the difference between the Shane that fought Mayorga and the Shane that pulverized Margarito. Shane would definitely be better prepared for Clottey.

Mosley lost a split decision against Cotto.
Clottey lost a split decision against Cotto.
I think Mosley wins but it'll be nowhere near as 1 sided as flomos claim.

the poll wasnt up when i replyed. from both of their last fights clottey lost a SD yes but i think he is a very lazy fighter at times and shane has the speed and work rate to give clottey many problems.
