Mosley, Paul Williams, Bradley all considered to have exciting style and polite personality = No fanbase or Not PPV relevant, Mayweather who is obnoxious, Arrogant, Rude = Great fanbase (Hugger+Haters), PPV magnet!!!
WTF????
Mosley, Paul Williams, Bradley all considered to have exciting style and polite personality
They were never as good and as exciting as Sugar Ray was once before, so imo in order for them to be a top PPV material like Floyd is, they needed to be some kind of a bad guy persona in the ring not necessarily outside. At the end of the day people just wanted to be extremely excited to watch you fight and get them your praise. Tyson for example.
In the united states, black people eating and consuming fried chicken is akin to racial stereotypes that suggest that we eat it and love it and would do anything to get it. Images of us eating fried chicken, eating watermelon and drinking kool aid were often used to demean blacks in america and reflect an image of ignorance and mindless consumption of a specific type of food.
Using an image of floyd mayweather as some sort of spokesman for fried chicken is without a doubt weather intentional or not, a supported notion of this stereotype.
the image has reached other urban/hip hop related messageboards and the response isnt exactly heartwarming. Thats just not a good image to use at all.
Yeah, I'm not black but I always asked myself because I knew how blacks get sterotyped with chicken if it ain't offensive to them. But nobody really complained so I ain't said something.
These Pac-fans always carry themselves that they are the thinkers... use logic and are respectful... even though I believe that the guy who started it didn't mean it in a wrong matter... you simply have to use your brain and think about some things... I had a heated talk here as well with someone who quoted Goebbels... we talked it out and everything is alright now...
Even though it is only internet and these guys would never trust themselves to open their mouth if they would stand in front of a guy... still I don't know why it is so hard for them so see... that what they do could be offensive towards some ppl who are involved with things like that (Chicken-blacks in my case it was German or Jews-Goebbels)
''Everyone has a brain - the art is to use it''
Yeah i want to know too, What the story or the big deal about Mayweather's picture with the KFC avatar?? How is it offensive or rascial???

Walker Smith Jr. was a polite African-American boxer and he was the greatest of all time
that wasnt until he left his prime, during his prime he was a fukking jerk, very arrogant and very difficult to negotiate with.

Drawing Power is Drawing Power, unless you can take a poll and unless you can grade that poll, the only way to tell someones fanbase is to judge them by their PPV buyrate in most instances.
You cant truely know a fanbase beyond that. Weather it was fans or non fans who order a PPV with a high buyrate, how can you know who is who?
Did you think the marquez PPV would do 1 million before the fight?
NO, You didint. Did marquez ever come close to 1million before the mayweather fight?
NO he didint.
Did mayweather? yes.
How do we know who was going for mayweather and who wasnt?
We dont. The distinction between who is a fan of who and who isnt, who the fuk knows.
Also, you talking about "roy jones has the biggest fanbase among african americans" LMAO. First of all, and ill say this without a doubt, Mayweather is a MUCH bigger name than jones ever was, because Jones even in his prime as superman, never drew like mayweather did, on PPV or in the mainstream.
Second of all, i am black, i am telling you right now, mayweather and judah are the two most popular fighters among blacks, with mosley probably a distant third. In the hood, those two names resonate.
Basically to me, having a fanbase means fukkall when in reality, what matters are numbers. Numbers dictate that mayweather does well on PPV. With no real way to distinguish who is a fan and who isnt, you have to assume he draws based on the numbers. But to argue who has a fanbase and trying to divert it to some strawman like "WELL MAYWEATHER DOESNT HAVE A FANBASE"
Miguel Cotto has a fanbase, yet on average, only had 2 good PPVs out of close to the 10 he was on. Drawing power is what matters in this sport. Fanbases vary, but drawing power is what matters more than anything.
Even arturo gatti who had a tremendous fanbase, almost never was on PPV, yet never drew like floyd on PPV and never made the money floyd made.
What im trying to tell you is that people like you are what make floyd who he is. Youre childish avatar and youre daily discussion, along with the rest of you "fans" help him.
And im still disgusted that you pac fans would even have that racist ass avatar, that sh!t is disgusting IMO. I dont mind any other avatar, but that KFC sh!t is a fukking shame. I dont care what the message is supposed to be, putting a black american on the KFC logo is unacceptable, period.
Excellent post which means you won't get a response.
DLH-floyd =2.4million buys
hatton-floyd = 1 million buys
Pac-dlh = 1.25 million buys
hatton- pac = 800k buys.
With Hatton especially the numbers difference is virtually indistinguishable.
I don't know what kind of math you're doing but those numbers are not "indistinguishible". Mayweather-DLH sold over a million more than Pacquiao-Delahoya. And Mayweather-Hatton sold more than 200,000 more. That's a lot of homes. This is as stupid as your argument that Mayweather has no "fanbase".
Truth is the media in the US doesn't want to promote black fighters, they wants good ol boys like Kelly Pavlik. The only way a black fighter in the US can get boxing press is if he plays the asshole, arrogant, heel. Look at RJJ, Ali, Floyd Mayweather Jr., B-Hop, and James Toney all shitted on by the media, until they lost or got old. Hell even Vernon Forrest tried to play the bad guy in his fight with Sergio just to get ****ing press.
Now the real truth is the media in the US wants blacks to play the "good boy" role so they can easily cast them aside and tell them they'll get noticed one day, but not now. Look at Shane Mosley, Vernon Forrest, Winky Wright, and Paul Williams, add Chad Dawson as well. I wish Shane, Vernon, Winky, Paul, Chad Dawson, Andre Dirrell, and Andre Ward would realize playing the "good boy" won't do anything for their pockets and it won't do anything for their career. The days of SRL are over, the only way a black fighter will get any air time, press, and career advantage is to be an arrogant asshole, atleast that way the media will cover them and want to push their fights in the hope they get beat into their "proper" place.
Floyd didnt fight on PPV till 2005 but boxing HAD alot of PPV attraction at the time, Nowadays we only have a few guys PPV-wise, So more fighters should have come through in that sense.
And Paul williams is that young Maybe Bradley but not williams IMO.
Well it takes time to build a fanbase...Paul Williams didn't headline his first real event until he fought Margarito in 2007...that was Paul's first title fight...only 2-3 years ago
Well thats what i would like to know, I mean do you have to act or be obnoxious to be successful??? Do you have to go the Mayweather route to be known/famous etc
I dont know if these is the american way but i just dont get why some fighters dont get the recognition that others get.
I mean Nonito Donaire is filipino and a very good boxer who i think KNOWN how to box, He doesnt have the exciting Pacquiao style so he doesnt get the adulation that someone like Pac gets so that makes sense but american boxers on the other hand its the opposite.
Shane Mosley is successful...along with Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr, Sugar Ray Leonard, and many others...
Ray Leonard was a gentleman and the media loved him...
That's because Bradley and Williams are young fighters...
And Mosley isn't prime WW Mosley in the early 2000's...
Floyd's first PPV didn't come until 2005...

Does this maybe reflect the American attitude to life...just sayin... ;)

WTF????
its boxing mate....remember muhammad ali used to do all sorts of outrageous things and people found that amusing.... NOT THAT i am comparing Mayweather jr anywhere near ali...hes not even in the same league as him :)

its deeper than ANYONE here might think.....I'll leave it at that before the TRUTH start a riot up on here!!
i hear you big man and your right,it would blow this thread up big time
Whats the story behind this? Can someone fill me in?
Yeah i want to know too, What the story or the big deal about Mayweather's picture with the KFC avatar?? How is it offensive or rascial???
A real boxing fan wouldn't care how much a boxer makes.
A real boxing fan would care to see the best fighting the best.
I don't give a shit how Floyd makes his money.
He doesn't gives the fans what they want and ultimately it will cost him in terms of how he's remembered.
The guy everyone wanted to see lose, but was too afraid of fighting any of the top guys that could do it.
its deeper than ANYONE here might think.....I'll leave it at that before the TRUTH start a riot up on here!!
Say what you feel or what you know, Am not american and am not close to getting the reasons why all those names i mentioned dont get a lot of talk or a better drawing power than Mayweather.
Well i have to give him credit for that because i cant believe people like Mosley or Wiliams dont get alot of attention like Mayweather gets, I mean Mosley is fight in 2 weeks and not alot of people seem to be focusing on the fight.
its deeper than ANYONE here might think.....I'll leave it at that before the TRUTH start a riot up on here!!
