Two questions here, and the answers shouldn't be simple as "Clottey is better, and he'd beat Cintron" or vice versa.
I think it could be that one is the better of the two, but styles wise a fight between the two could produce a different winner.
IMO Clottey is the better of the two overall with his defense, chin, and strength. But I think I would favor Cintron in a fight. Kermit has the power to back him off and better boxing skills that could win him a decision.
What do you say?
Depends who dictates pace
Cintron might be able to box Clottey, like he did Angulo...
If it gets to be Clottey's type of fight though, of course Clottey would win.
I think Clottey is the better fighter and that he would be Cintron.
I really think Pac is in for a rough fight against Clottey.
I think Pac's punch resitance at welter weight could be over rated. Based on the Cotto fight, IMO we didn't really get an accurate picture of Pac's ability to punishment from Welter. Yes, Pac got caught, but the shots he got caught with weren't bombs.
Clottey is a tough Mofo with a good defense, I don't see Pac stopping him.
The more I think about it, the more I see Pac getting KO'd.
cotto is weak now? yea you aren't being reasonable at all. clottey lost to the weak cotto? yet the great martinez can't beat a blown up welterweight with no heart and his best win is alex bunema? and you don't think clottey can compete with him? you do realize 154 is a shit division as well? people go there to avoid welters and middleweights. martinez was run out of the welterweight division when he was knocked out by margarito. but yea clottey can't compete with martinez.
also just cause pac doesn't want to fight someone doesn't mean he would lose to them. but that's you just being hypothetical. i guess margarito, mosley, cotto, williams, and pac would all beat floyd just cause he doesnt want to fight them.
I didn't mean Cotto was weak? Sorry for the confusion.
Let me clarify...Clottey had Cotto beaten early on during that fight and couldn't finish him...Everyone who's seen the fight has to agree...and not only that, Cotto basically had one eye for the majority of the fight...So when I say weak...I should have said "weakened"
I never said Martinez was great...I did say that he was a legitimate Jr. Middleweight - ...Who in his LAST FIGHT went toe to toe with arguably the one of best p4p fighters in the world. So from his most recent outing he showed that he wasn't the scrub you're making him out to be???
and the Martinez loss to MargaCHEATO was nearly ten years ago...Didn't we already discuss him...and please quit giving this cheater the benefit of the doubt?
Let's end it like this...I don't think NEITHER Cintron or Clottey are great...They both have similar ceilings in terms of potential BUT I think Cintron edges Clottey out due to Clottey's willingness to stand right in front of his opponents and trade, he doesn't have knockout power therefore he'd take just has much punishment as he'd give out and that isn't a good recipe for winning against a fighter in Cintron who absolutely has ONE PUNCH knockout power.
I tried to be as factual as possible, so please correct me if you think I'm wrong???
Thanks DAGGUM I love boxing and enjoy talking about it...It seems like you're passionate about it as well...I appreciate the back and forth!!!
Peace MO!
I'm really surprised how lopsided this ended up being. I'm sure some people have motive, but it's still surprising that it became very one sided.
As others have said, I believe this is a true toss up, especially if the two were to fight. People have to realize that Clottey has a tendency to take rounds off and get in sort of a Hopkins mentality of "I deserve this". Sometimes I think HE thinks he's winning a round when he really isn't. Much was the case against Cotto IMO.
But Cintron has a worse mentality than Clottey, But fighter arent tough mentally, They both like to look for a way out but Cintron is worse, The guy is all about power and when he lands his best shot and you dont move he would fold mentally.
If he fights Clottey and land something big Clottey would take it and that would be the begin of the end for Cintron because he would fold and clottey would start landing his double left combo on Cintron.
Clottey all the way....sorry
they are not in the same class. don't be a boxrec warrior use your eyes. clottey has proven himself against top fighters time and time again. dominated baldomir until getting dq'd, very close fight with margarito, very close fight with cotto that many people thought he won, made judah quit. cintron got destroyed by margarito and martinez. he just can't compete on the highest level. clottey also doesn't cry in the ring.
Thats pretty much it for me,Agreed on all points.

Thanks to everyone who actually addressed the question. When I saw this thread ended up being 13 pages, I knew it must've been overrun by Mayweather-Pac talk.
Zab Judah and Diego Corrales took Clottey's best punches.
Josh is stronger and tougher. cintron has more power and is the better boxer.
Cintron takes a decision over Clottey. Just like Cintron beat Angulo.... same blueprint.
zab judah actually quit and it should have been a tko so i wouldn't say he took his punches too well.
how is it the same blueprint when clottey is a counterpuncher and angulo is a pressure fighter? cintron threw punches to keep angulo off him where if he throws punches like that against clottey he's gonna get countered.
Clottey is better, Clottey will win... I can't believe all of a sudden Clottey became such a terrible fighter...
Its funny, because the same crowd that is shitting on Josh now,
are the same ones who were hyping him up during Margaritos run atop the welterweight division.
For a quick minute, Clottey was their savior to end Margarito.
OK OK I can tell you're getting emotional...but can we stay on topic...I was clearly pointing out the difference between 147 and 154 but I guess you missed that...I'll make it easier for you to understand...
Everyone but you knows Margarito is a cheat...i don't need any special evidence...because most people understand that if you cheat once, you've more than likely cheated before...so there's two losses for Cintron...Who else did he lose to??? Because, every site I've looked at has him at one loss.
i'll even give you the actual Martinez DRAW as a loss...because That wasn't the point of contention. It was however about Clottey being this Mt Everest and Cintron all of a sudden being a bum...
I was clearly stating what PAC himself has already said JR MIDDIE is to big for him, so if its to big for him why can't Cintron get any credit for going up their
and going twelve with one of the best of the division and as for Clottey, why does he get so much credit from you when he can't get by a weak Cotto and a great 130 pounder in PAC...because he is going to lose to PAC - Bet the house.
BTW calm down...We're only discussing this and I've never attacked you???
And who else knocked Cintron out??? because I remember Martinez knocking him down but not out???

have you watched cintron's career? i have. he's gotten ktfo against every good fighter he's ever fought. has clottey? no. has pac no. in fact they have beaten or been competitive with every top fighter they ever faced. and they faced much tougher competition. and you are implying martinez would destroy them. laughable. you say clottey has only beaten judah and he's being praised for his losses. well lets see who has martinez beat? FUC-K ALL. he's being praised for a loss against williams and a draw against cintron. you rip clottey and praise martinez. hypocrite.
BTW...PAC has been KTFO...just stating the facts...and it doesn't matter that it was a long time ago...just saying

???Ummm...and I suppose they CAN because, YOU SAY SO??? trust me, I'm not trying to get in a pissing match with youbut, if you EVER want to know why I feel the way I do...I'd be more than happy to tell you, Just ask.
As YOU SAID "...and start crying like cintron thats for sure win or lose." I suppose you don't remember PAC CRYING after victories??? Don't worry I don't expect you to remember nor comment on this because ...there's nothing for you to say...But unlike you, I don't care if someone crys or not...Winning or Losing can probaly be very emotional for some of these guys, esspecially after the tremendous amount of sacrifice these guys put forth...
With that being said let me explain what brought me to my point...
Pac decided to pass on Yuri because he was a liitle to big for him...Sooo, what i did was take that information and let it swirl around in my brain and then I came to the conclusion that if he thinks Yuri is to big for him, then he wouldn't want to see Martinez in the ring because, I think PWill and Martinez are the cream of the crop in the JR Middleweight Division and think Martinez easily handles Yuri... So this is how I came to my "Pac, couldn't compete with Martinez for 12 rounds" everyone knows Yuri is the weakest of the JR Middleweight Champions.
Now Clottey, have you watched Clottey over his career??? I have and he hasn't beaten anyone, except for Judah...This is only name victory, and at 147 for goodness sakes...I can see that but celebrating multiple losses??? With that being said, have you seen his comp at 154??? Nothing but journeymen??? Lastly, he's being justified as a great opponent for losing (OK maybe even fought to a Draw) to a guy who was HUMILIATED by PAC...but he's going to stand in there with Martinez for 12 rounds?
What I said was based on what I've seen and heard, what you'll reply with is nothing but hypotheticals because there isn't any evidence that Clottey or PAC would be anything but doormats for the very best of the JR Middleweight division...
Axiously awaiting your reply?

they couldn't compete with martinez? why the hell not? cause you say so? i doubt they get knocked out and start crying like cintron thats for sure win or lose. oh wait i forgot martinez is julian jackson he would murder both clottey and pac.

All in all,Cintron is a very powerful puncher & Clottey is a very good defender,it really is a tossup,no matter how anyone tries to bend it!!Clottey isn't going to ko Cintron,he doesn't fight like Margarito, period!!So based on how they fight, either could win!!I'll put it so though,if Cintron hit Clottey the way Cotto did,he sleeps him!!
Clottey has fought at 154 before, he would be more healthy there. Martinez could still beat him, but it would be tough for both guys.
He was also a damn prospect, who was one dimensional as hell. The game plan to beat Angulo was set before it was even carried out. A decent win, but not quite as commendable.
Do yourself a favor and look at Clottey's 154 comp??? GARBAGE...Angulo would beat everybody that Clottey fought at 154 on the same night.
He's spent the best years of his career at 147, because at 154 he'd get killed!!! He drains himself down to make 147, almost to the point of medical attention then blows up so he has a size advantage over his competitors at fight time...If you notice, everytime he's faced a viable opponent at 147 he's tired out...In my book I thought he fought the fight of his life when he fought Margarito...but since then he really hasn't looked quite like the same fighter.
