If Top Rank Promoter, Bob Arum, has his way, newly-crowned WBA junior middleweight (154 pounds) champion, Yuri Foreman, of New York, will defend his belt against former two-time, world welterweight (147 pounds) king, Miguel Cotto, of Puerto Rico, perhaps in June at Madison Square Garden.
Cotto is my second favorite fighter and i would be really happy to see him return and become champion again. Still i would think it a better decision to fight some guys his own size, win some easy fights and rebuild confidence. Cotto might be to small for 154. Foremans reach may take away Cotto's jab and his power will most likely be less at a higher weight.
I haven't seen Foreman fight, can he hurt Cotto and can Cotto hurt him?
If Cotto loses to Yury Foreman it ill be a shame I tell you what!!!!
stfu ch@mp you need to shut your mouth and don't jinx Cotto's chances of winning his third championship belt. :chairshot
That was just to get Yuri's name out there because if he wanted Yuri to get the Pacquiao fight he would get it. Everyone already knew since last month that he wanted Cotto to face his boy Yuri.
Arum wanted the Foreman fight for Pacquaio. It was Roach who killed that match.
Foreman is a difficult fighter to fight especially for a lighter fighter coming off the worse loss of his career. Cotto should work towards a Mosley rematch first(if he still has the titles).
More like he can't wait to make his boy Yuri a star. This is not a good idea for Cotto at this point, but Arum doesn't give a ****.
You really think that Arum wanted to match Pacquaio-Foreman to make Yuri the star? Cotto may not win, but at least he wouldn't take heavy punishment.
Cotto has a strong chance, but I question these promoters. It would serve Cotto best if he rebuilt, took a couple easy fights first. Rebuild his confidence. He has been stopped twice and hasn't taken an easy fight since Jennings. He deserves a couple gimmes. All promoters see is money to be made. They have little regard for the fighters, their career or their health.
Lets slow down calling this easy.
We dont know how much Cotto has left.
His dad just dies, his uncle is beefing..hes involved in a lawsuit...
Then in his FIRST fight at a new weight hes figting a 5-11...170 Pound southpaw???
This will not be easy.
Adjustments maybe but june is fair enough to have him recovered on his fathers death. Im not sure with that but who knows he'll be as more fit as he is right now this coming june :) time will tell.
He will be :D
Cotto is also a monster :) He has the heart and power. Im sure he can do it at 154lbs.
No doubt man, and i'll be rooting for him.
I just can't see it with Cotto though. He's involved in many issues, as stated above.
But if he chose to do so, ill be rooting for him.
If Cotto handles the weight, he becomes champ again!!!!!
He will be :D
I'd prefer Cotto stay in WW.
There are monsters at 154.
But dollar wise, a NY showdown would be beneficial to all parties financially.
