I just had the pleasure of interviewing James “Lights Out” Toney concerning his thoughts on Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.
Toney boasts an impressive professional record of 72 wins, 6 losses, 3 draws, with 44 knockouts.
He is the current NABO and IBA Heavyweight World Champion following his second round TKO of Matthew Greer in September of 2009.
Toney is also a former Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Cruiserweight world champion.
One of his defining moments was his 9th round stoppage of Evander Holyfield in his first fight in the Heavyweight division.
I spoke with James about the possibility of his entry into the UFC, his thoughts on Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, and Teddy Atlas’s expose of the alleged Team Pacquiao emails.
Here are the highlights of the interview:
Do you have any fights coming up?
Not right now but I’m still negotiating with the UFC.
So you're more interested in UFC than boxing for now?
No, I still love boxing. I just want to show that a boxer can hang around in MMA.
Some can. You're probably one that can, but the same couldn’t be said for all boxers.
Excuse me for my ignorance but I don’t follow UFC as closely as boxing. Have you fought in a UFC fight yet?
No. Right now it’s just talks. After UFC 108, I went and saw Dana.
That's cool. You'll bring a lot of publicity to the sport. I'm sure Dana was psyched.
He is, but we'll see. He talked a lot of (#%@*) about boxing.
Yeah. There's a lot of competition between UFC and boxing right now.
So do you think the Pacquiao / Mayweather fight will happen this year?
Yeah. Fall 2010 I think is likely.
So what’s your prediction on the fight?
Pacquiao by 11th round TKO. (Mayweather) will make the same mistake that Leonard did when he fought Duran the first time.
What do you mean by that?
Floyd will mix it up and try to impose his will, but Pacquiao will use his awkward angles to make Floyd look awkward. Leonard wanted to shed that image of being a pretty boy so he fought tooth and nail with Duran. I think Floyd will do the same thing.
Aha! Gotcha
I think when Pac's off balanced, Floyd should jump on him.
But even when Pac’s off balance he can still land ferocious, weird punches that hurt.
He can, but Floyd is a master of the ring. He knows the small twitches and tendencies of the fighters he faces. To me he's a boxing scientist that will not be seen in the next decade.
I agree with that. His defensive skills are beyond compare but I think Pac will take his punches and keep pressuring him.
Time will tell.
What about the blood tests?
Who is Mayweather to ask for the tests? Why didn’t he ask Marquez? Manny’s not on 'roids.
Last question. I have to bounce.
Okay. What do you think about Teddy Atlas’s expose of the alleged emails from the Pacquiao camp?
There are lots of websites that show how to forge emails.
Till next time…
Thanks for the interview, James. Good luck to you.

Everyone has their opinions. Toney has never liked Floyd and he has a lot of history with Roach and Pacquiao. Roach used to train Toney and they are still friends nowadays.
This was an interesting excerpt but the funniest part is when Toney shows his real personality very abruptly: "Last question. I have to bounce."
He felt that heat when the subject of roids was brought up. Gave him a sick feeling in his gut like he needed to roll-bounce before it got any worse.
prime toney's shoulder roll > prime mayweather's shoulder roll.
true story.

nahh... i dont think so, prime toney got hit more than floyd does....though not by much really, i think floyd has better reflexes than toney which is why i give him the edge when it comes to defense..but with that said
all hail :hail: the great James Toney
Again, James Toney is a heavyweight.
Floyd = Welter Weight
It's hard to move when your body is that big.
toney also has close to 75 fights plus, Reggie johnson was better than 85% of the fighters Floyd has faced. Floyd was floored by Zab and Richard Steel's dumb ass didn't count it.
I agree. And plus the fact that he's a heavy ****ing weight. Lol. Floyd wouldn't dare face someone who punches real hard anymore, and he's had only 40+ fights .

Toney was dropped by Reggie Johnson. Floyd has never been on his seat. Plus Toney has gotten punchy. So I think Floyd has the edge in the shoulder roll.
Toney is an intelligent boxer and what he says has credence. If Floyd fights toe to toe he can definitely lose. He has to stay in the defensive counterpunching mode and the fight would be won easily.

The interviewer is a proper retard
How can you ask someone who has tested positive about blood tests,he doesnt wanna hear about them.
Secondly he said Tony's defining moment was knocking out Holyfield,Holyfield wasnt even a shadow of his former self by the time he fought Toney.
Another thing is Toney has never liked Mayweather just like Whittaker. It's because of their styles but maybe Floyd makes a lot more than most of these guys and I smell some jealousy in some of their interviews. The guys who normally like Floyd are normally the smaller weight classes, talk about Tyson,Holyfield,Shane Mosley,Benard Hopkins all these guys have openly stated they dont like Mayweather.
To be honest, most boxers and boxing experts alike sides with Pacquiao. He's the more likable fighter of the two and has been the more proven fighter.
Oh and if you smell jelousy and a little bit of hate on their interviews, it's something that Floyd put upon himself. He's claiming to be the best, someone better than SRR and SRL when clearly, he hasn't done anything comparable to what the two has done. He acts like he's all that when he 'arguably' picks easier fights which leads him to getting more cash than the hard ones which would earn him a better legacy.
Oh and again, if you smell jealousy, please do consider that your boy, his dad, and the people around him, is accusing Pac of taking in PED's without any shed of proof other than speculation.
prime toney's shoulder roll > prime mayweather's shoulder roll.
true story.
Translation:Toney picked Pacquiao so that means he's better than Mayweather .
True story
We all know how intelligent and talented Floyd is, we all know how tiny his balls are as well. Ask boxing experts and they'll all say the same thing, MOST TALENTED and could beat everyone in his division right now, too bad he doesn't have the balls to step up.
Toney has been in a lot of wars compared to Floyd. Quit comparing him to Floyd.
Clearly Killa Kali made the comparison. I corrected him. Floyd doesnt get hit as often as Toney was during his first 12 years in boxing. That's a fact my man
he also said:
"He can, but Floyd is a master of the ring. He knows the small twitches and tendencies of the fighters he faces. To me he's a boxing scientist that will not be seen in the next decade.
