Now that it looks like Khan will vacate his title to avoid taking on Maidana,a fight I felt he could win. We must presume now there is no title at stake there is a strong likelihood that Khan will take on less dangerous opposition as indicated by the safety first policy . Maidana's boxing skills are not good but he can punch, Malignaggi can box but does not hit hard and is capable of getting a points win against Khan so I don't see that fight being made for a long time. Ortiz would be a risk as well. I think we may well see a series of fights in the States against bums to gain exposure in the hope of gaining US fans while promising big things in the future . Much along the lines of his career so far in the UK. So far hype and bullshit baffles brains has worked in the UK where there is a strong fan base willing to fork out to see these one sided canned fights and it has made him a rich man. Of course this is speculation and Khan may take on some tough fights but if Roach and Warren settle on a diet of bum fighters for Khan
HOW DO YOU THINK US FANS WILL TAKE TO KHAN FIGHTING LOW LEVEL OPPOSITION? WILL THIS WORK LIKE IT HAS DONE IN THE UK?
Disclaimer: This is no criticm of Khan personally as he has made it perfectly clear in numerous interviews that he will fight anybody and the top guys but despite his deepest protestations Roach and Warren force him against his will to fight weaker opposition and dump his belt.
I am really interested to find out what American fight fans think of Khan and this question.

I was confident Khan could win against Maidana, Malignaggi, etc. The only Light Welterweight that worried me was Timothy Bradley, who could probably have dealt with Khan fairly easily. But, then, perhaps Roach doesn't want the harder fights ...
He wont fight bums.
It will be worse because he will fight good fighters albeit smaller fighters and feather fisted guys. Malifaggi and an most likely a fat past his best JMM who he has a reach/size/youth advantages over.
As long as he fights other top comp at 140 I wouldn't mind. But I'd like to see him take on Maidana.
What if it is not top comp but low level mediocre op? How will that go down with US fans?

Dynamite Kid, I don't see the first few fights at this level. I could be wrong. If the opposition is too good he will be forced to either fight or back down from a competitive fight. I think the idea is to have numerous low level fights to gain exposure in the States while goal hanging and hoping for another Kotelnik to turn up and luck out a championship and fight him. If Roach and co are backing off Maidana they will also back off the other top boys. They got too close to danger for comfort
