What the hell did Marquez have going for him in that fight?
We are in agreement. If Floyd wanted to fight Marquez, the p4p#2 fighter in the world, he should of fought him at 135 and lower. Fighting him any higher would be as good as not fighting him at all.
140lbs would have been the perfect weight for this fight imo. I saw u said the point of this is to prove that win has no bearing on the Pac fight. I agree with that . My whole point in the thread was not to claim that beating JMM was this incrediblw victory. It was to explain what was impressive about it.
No matter what weight the fight was at mayweather would still win all of those categories.....so why the thread?
:Flush:
He would at least have had a weight and stamina advantage if they fought at a lower weight class. Floyd would've been a bit drained to balance the overall physical advantages.
Its a decent win because JMM was still the number 2 p4p fighter in the world and was outboxed in a shutout by someone who had not fought in 20 months. It would have been a better win if Floyd was still in the lower weightclasses though most of the advantages you listed earlier would still exsist.

Would a fighter of Marquez's caliber have so many disadvantages going in to fight? You think he'd be able to do something a little better than Floyd to provide opposition if in fact it was a decent win.

Fight was a disgrace.
But this shit is old.
Mr boat buyer bout to face Pac.
I know Mang, just asking why flomos use Marquez as an example of how Pac will get beat if it was such a disgrace/tune up.
Don't try to compare those. Marquez won 11 rounds vs Pacquiao, he's not even in the same league as those bums per say.
Advantages for Marquez (remember kids, it's not fair unless Mayweather is at a disadvantage):
Marquez wasn't coming in from a one year layoff.
They were both in their 30's so wtf is the age excuse about?
Marquez had more experience.
Marquez was "supposed" to "know every boxing move in the game" yet Floyd outboxed him 12 long rounds
Marquez was the p4p #2 for a reason
Marquez was more motivated as he would get his chance at Pacquiao again had he won.
Yo, of course they're not in the same league, but the fuss is all about Marquez' weight. He is a brilliant fighter, but not at Welterweight. He is a career featherweight who had 50 fights at that weight and only 6 fights above 130. His skills are unquestionable, but he is much less effective above 135.

It was closer to a two year layoff, but be honest -- how often was Floyd out of the gym?

This is such a weak argument. So were Jones and Calzaghe, but Jones is "too old" according to most people on here, right?
Marquez had more experience.
LOL. He was more battle-worn, yeah.
Marquez was "supposed" to "know every boxing move in the game" yet Floyd outboxed him 12 long rounds
The fact that he's not a welterweight does not help Marquez at all.
Marquez was the p4p #2 for a reason
Yeah, for being brilliant at 126 - 135.
Marquez was more motivated as he would get his chance at Pacquiao again had he won.
Weak. More motivated? Says who? How the hell do you know exactly how motivated someone is?

:thinking:Marquez never had a chance against Mayweather. And i agree that fight was just straight bullshit.Did you see that Shane Mosley called mayweather out in the ring after the fight.Mayweather's been running from sugar shane for a long time.I don't think that fight between cotto and pacman was bullshit on pacman's part.Cotto was known as a beast coming into this fight.I definitely expected pacman tto have problems and was just shocked as other people how pacman handled him.Mayweather got his hands full with pacman in 2010.
He was the more active fighter facing a guy coming of a long lay off. Thats it.
get outta here! Remember the fight was suppose to happen in July? Then Floyd bished out probably because he wasn't in the shape he thought he wanted to be in to guarantee zero chance of loss. So then he pushes it back another 2 months when Marquez was already primed and good to go. Talk about screwing around with your time to peak. But, let's not over analyze that or anything. :asshole:

Where did Marquez win 11 rounds against Pacquiao. By "where" I mean what weight class?
TS where are you getting at?
Asking flomos why they think Marquez was a great win, even though he fought 2 weight classes higher than he should have and with all those disadvantages against him.
V
Well i guess its impressive that someone can use a fighter of that caliber as a tune-up. Its a decent win. Not great. Whats also impressive is the manner in witch he won. I never expected it to look like that. I felt going in JMM would have some moments and win 3 or 4 rounds.

VIf that is the case, I don't get why some people tout the Marquez win as a great win if it was only jus a tune-up. A high-profile one at that.
No one is touting Pac's wins over Larios or Solis as great wins.
