When Pacquiao dominated Oscar DelaHoya, my jaw hit the floor. I never expected to see Oscar beat so easilly. Pac not only hit Oscar at will, but his defense was impenetrable. In my opinion we saw Pac's A+ game that night.
The Cotto fight, because he put it all together and beat up a man who's bigger than him. He showed all his talents that night. Counterpunching, moving, ability to see and take shots. Cotto tried to fight three different ways and Pacquiao still stopped him. People bring up 145, but but it's not like Cotto was fighting consistently at 154 for a decade like Oscar. He came in at 146 for the Clottey fight. It wasn't a debilitating struggle to make that weight.
Hatton was the defining KO of his career, but Hatton went into that fight with a terrible game plan and fought stupidly. Not Pacquiao's fault though. He caught Ricky with one of the best punches we'll ever see. The De La Hoya performance sent him into the mainstream, but only the biggest Pac worshipers would refuse to admit that Oscar was a walking dead man that night.
The five wins against the top Mexican fighters is an enormous accomplishment, but he wasn't as polished against Barrera the first time or against Morales in all 3 fights. His performance in the second Barrera fight was actually pretty good. He stayed patient throughout the fight and really beat up Marco in the 11th until that cheap shot.
I thought he won the first Marquez fight by a point, but lost the second by a point. People bring up the Marquez fights like he got beaten up and Juan Manuel got robbed, but both were close competitive fights that could have gone either way. And sitting down Marquez 4 times in 2 fights is impressive.
Catchweights happen all the time in boxing. Leonard made Hearns come down to 163 in their third fight. Oscar fought Hopkins at 158. Julio Cesar Chavez fought Meldrick Taylor at 145. Let's not act like Pacquiao is the first or the last fighter to ever ask for catchweight fight.
It's not like Cotto was a middleweight his entire career and had to kill himself to make 145. He weighed in at 146 for the Clottey fight. He made 145 comfortably.
The Oscar fight, I could see someone not giving him full credit for that fight. Not giving Pac credit for Cotto is just hating.
lols. 145 or 147, doesnt matter. he would have been dead too:friday:
That's not the point. It was unnecessary and frankly a bitch move by Roach and Co. I honestly don't think Manny would've cared if the fight was at 147, so why do his people care?
I hope everyone can agree that making Cotto get down to 145 was completely unnecessary. And don't give me that shit "he agreed to it". They threatened to walk away from the fight if Cotto didn't compromise on the weight. Cotto's not stupid enough to throw away that type of paycheck. Any way you cut it, if you're the challenger fighting for another man's title, you should do it at the normal weight limit. Pacquiao didn't need those 2 pounds, so what was the point to begin with? It only serves to tarnish the win (in some people's eyes, not me personally).
Bceause he wanted the money man...
The ww divison is 141-147 NOT 141-145...
Cotto was at an disadvantage courtesy of Pac...they cheated him....Pac didnt need Cotto to not be able to weigh 147 Pounds...
I give him no credit for that win at all...
His best win is Hatton.....
At least Pac beat Cotto within the boudaries of the WW division and it was still in the WW division and a welterweight fight.
PBF doesnt though does he? He gets them to step up one or two divisions which is much worse.
He didnt give Hatton the alternative of a catch weight of 142 did he? He didnt meet JMM half way did he as well? PBF made him step up a full 2 divsions. PBFs right when he says all roads lead to him. He gets his way all the time and gives no lee way.
So dont cry about a measly 2 pounds catchweight for Pac against Cotto.
Hatton was the nastiest...he literallytook his fukking his head off..I was in the strip club getting settled in then BOOM...fight over...lol.
Im not impressed with the Cotto win..Cotto isnt the smae as he used to be..and he wasnt allowed to weigh 147 Pounds.
lols. 145 or 147, doesnt matter. he would have been dead also:friday:
barrera, morales and oscar weren't in their prime....so ill say either the hatton or cotto win.....actually, the hatton win...cause hatton was the best in that division and pacquiao made him look like a bitch...cotto was forced to put his ww title on the line even though the fight was at 145
Barrera was coming off an eight fight winning streak before he met Pacquiao in 2003. He was the top featherweight at that time. His victims included:
Kevin Kelley , Johnny Tapia, Erik Morales, Enrique Sanchez, Naseem Hamed, Jesus Salud,
Jose Luis Valbuena and Luiz Freitas.
After losing to pacquiao he went on a 6 fight winning streak against notable opponenets such as:
Rocky Juarez (twice),Robbie Peden, Mzonke Fana, Erik Morales,Paulie Ayala
barrera, morales and oscar weren't in their prime....so ill say either the hatton or cotto win.....actually, the hatton win...cause hatton was the best in that division and pacquiao made him look like a bitch...cotto was forced to put his ww title on the line even though the fight was at 145
He wasn't "forced", he agreed to it.
