Who would win this tournament if all the fighters fought against each other in their primes.
And lets not take resume's into consideration. Let's consider only their size and skills.
ps: I got the inspiration for this thread from the "Greatest heavyweight ever...realistically?" thread, so before anyone blasts me for copying that thread, I am already aware of it. I just wanted to make it a little more specific with a poll.
He has hardly been here, how could you say he's dominated this era.
CO Sign.....I would say there has not been one single dominating HW in the recent era. Wlad and Vitali have shared that spot light through out their careers. When Vitali was absent from Boxing Wlad was on the come back after being Ko'd I still think Wlad is vey vulnerable to a pressure style fighter with a good haed movement. Vitali to me has not looked that dominating in any fight with viable competition. I rather see HOlyfield on that list then either of them. I would say Mike Tyson was from 1986-1990 Followed by Evander Holyfield from 1991-1998 Followed by Lennox Lewis from 1999-2003 This is not based on resumes simply based on beating the man who beat the man. Ridduck Bowe woud have been an ATG if he kept in shape and prepared himself better. The fights with Gollata and HolyField took miles out of him. I think a prime Bowe, Lewis, Tyson, and Holyfield all destroy either Vitali or Wlad. As for the list you gave me I voted for Ali beats Tyson 2 out of 3 times....Ali would have to fight a perfect fight to beat Mike and he would be able to 4 out of 6 days while resting on Friday.....Lefty
Ali was great but where is frazier or holyfield, both i think were the best of there era frazier howevr is disputable i just like how he fought.
well logically speaking, holyfield can't be in this poll. He lost to Bowe, and Bowe ducked Lewis because he WOULD have lost to him as he did in the olympics. So the best of Holyfield's era would be Lewis. Putting Holyfield or even Bowe on a list where logically speaking they would be assured to lose against at least one of the other fighters in the poll just wouldn't make sense.
you sould have called this thread HW tournement - not ATG
I think this thread was aptly named. This tourney would decide who is the best HW to ever live IMO. Best 6 names that could be on that list according to logic.
you didnt mention the brain..when someone stood up to tyson he was a pussy. These fighters would stand up to tyson and he would turn to a pussy in the ring....Just listen to teddy Atlas and what he would say on this subject. He even said tyson would go crazy on lennox in the press confrence because he was scared of lennox and he would try to find a way to get out
yeah, tyson was also scared and even cried before his 1st amateur fight. He won that fight in a record 8 second ko.
sure tyson didn't have the right mental stamina, but he had the right trainers to guide him. when he lost that, he lost himself.
I voted Ali, and probably would no matter who the 6 fighters where, but I dont really agree with your six. Not at all, honestly. Where is Jack Johnson? Dempsey?

it's not about resume. it's about physical abilities, size and skill. basically just judging with your eyes instead of whats on paper. tyson was a perfect force combining power, speed, aggression and defensive head movements all in one motion.
all you have to do is look at Tyson right after he parted ways with Rooney. Even before his first loss, Tyson's skills started to noticably fade. Prime Tyson with Rooney is close to unbeatable IMO. only lewis could've beaten that tyson.

My bad I miss Joe Louis.
And, sir you really underrating Jack. The man was defensive genious. had good power, good footwork, good stamina. The man could go 20rds with ease. And, he was not that small.
I have to disagree on all points especially defense. his hands were always low and he was flat footed. and I would even have to say his power is overrated considering the hard gloves that they used back then a fighter with any decent power shouldn't allow a fight to go past 5 rounds let alone 20. I know the teeth in the glove story, but still, with those gloves having fights go past 20 rounds shows a lack of power.

Ali beats all ( 5 - 0 )

Tyson beats Holmes and Vitali ( 2 - 3 )
Lewis beats Tyson and Vitali ( 2 - 3 )
Holmes beats Lewis and Vitaly ( 2 - 3 )
Vitali loses to all ( 0 - 5 ) - He doesnt belong in this list it should be Foreman

Louis is on that list. and it's a super 6 list. why put fighters on that list who wouldn't stand a chance? Johnson wouldn't stand a chance against any of them. In fact, i would be surprised if Johnson made it past the 1st round against them. and yes, I've seen his documentary and know all about him. you just can't compare the way they fought back then to how they fight now plus johnson was really small for a HW. he would get eaten alive against any of the guys in this poll.

Name one top HW that Tyson beat?
Read OP..... Skill set, not resume.
I'd argue that by the time Tyson was fighting top HWs (Lewis, Holyfield), he was fcked up in the head.
Early 20's Tyson KO's all of them except Foreman.
Name one top HW that Tyson beat?
Michael Spinks
Tony Tucker
Bonecrusher Smith
Pinklon Thomas
Trevor Berbick
They're not ALL TIME GREATS except maybe Spinks but are the TOP DOGS at the time
but he fought everyone and moorer and bowe were great fighters in there own right.
Oh I agree. My point was that there is a case that can be made that he was not the best of his era. I am not saying I would make that case. But, I am saying there could be a case made.
What about Joe Louis and Jack Johnson... They were pretty dominant in there era.
