This is a little off topic from the Pac vs. Mayweather posts, but just curious if anybody knows any story behind this...
In the Rocky series, it's obvious that Apollo Creed is based on Muhammad Ali, and Ivan Drago is just a sterotype of what soviet fighters were at the time. But who or what was the Clubber Lang character based on? The obvious choice would be Tyson, but the movie came out in 1983, and Tyson didn't turn pro until 1984. Was there a fighter Stallone based Lang on, or did he just make him up?
Just curious, this just popped into my head.
Rocky Balboa was based on Joe Frazier even though he was Italian. Joe used to work in a meat house too, its on beyond the glory. Both were from Philly. He did use the Chuck whepner Ali fight as an idea but he wasn't supposed to be Whepner. In Rocky 5 Tommy Morrison is supposed to be Tyson, just watch it good. He leaves Rocky to be with that promoter that looks like Don king without the hair and I think he says only in America too. I don't think Clubber Lange was based after anyone, just a made up fighter. Stallone must have met Mr. T while he was a body guard for several famous fighters. That's my guess on Clubber.

James "Clubber" Lang is a fictional character that appeared as Rocky Balboa's rival in the 1982 film Rocky III. He was played by the popular "bodyguard to the stars" Mr. T, who was 29 years old when the film was launched. The character is very loosely based on a combination of Sonny Liston, Larry Holmes, and George Foreman.
Many of the character's catchphrases from Rocky III have become common in popular culture, and particularly in Mr. T's career.
clubber lang is based on frazier, if you cant accept that why not armstrong with "the attitude"
stallone prolly watched raging bull which inspired him to make rocky. boxing was dominated by black fighters then, so naturally it had to be a black guy. and that episode with dolf lundgren character is a political statement.

It was just a charater they made up. They wanted a slugger for Rocky to fight.
I've always thought Apollo Creed was based on Aaron Pryor... or vice versa.
I mean, come on - they look exactly the same, and did that same pointing thing as a taunt.
