He needed to clear himself of PEDs perhaps.
He did in fact fight at 106 as he says. He did in fact win 5 titles in 5 divisions in less than 10 years, something that he in fact claims, "nobody else has ever done".
He does have brittle hands.
He did have a broken rib.
He gets easily rattled with emotions.
He has stopped 4 opponents above 140.
Somethings up as only now is he demanding his opponent to take more strenuous testing.
If he really was concerned about PEDs, surely he would have been asking for this testing starting 40 fights ago.
Yea, somethings up.

Honestly, I believe that he can and would have beaten either Cotto or Margarito.
He simply wanted bigger stars. He wants to have big fights and get the most money. He's a business man before he's a fighter. It's not a flaw, for the fans it might be, it's simply the way some think. I don't blame him for his own personal priorities.
He wanted all the fighters in the division to beat eachother up, but that's wha all fighters technically bank on. He wanted them to be bigger stars. That's why Cotto would have been the guy he preferred out of Manny and Cotto, because it's an easier fight, but it's also a big fight if he won. And a fight he can get the A-side of far more than he could with Manny. But, I don't think he feels he can't beat Manny.
For better or worse, he honestly thinks he can beat ANYONE. It's not a a scam. He believes he's that great.
He wants only big stars to prove it again. So, he retired to let them all become it or get forgetten. Some did it, Manny. Some are forgotten, Margarito. Trust, if he beats Manny clearly, in any way, it's either a rematch, or a fight with Mosley next. If Mosley loses and if Cotto comes back strong, he'll fight him next.
So he comes back and fights the legendary JMM??
So lefty, if there,s no fight than coming back 4 that big payday has just went out the window...
THERE WILL BE A FIGHT WHETHER OR NOT IT IS IN mARCH REMAINS TO BE SEEN. BUT MARK MY WORDS THEY WILL FIGHT. Way too much $$$$ out there for both these dudes to pass this one up. Manny might fight Paulie get himself a W and Floyd may take on winner of Mosley Berto or maybe someone else before they meet in late 2010.....Lefty
No bashing please... Just want to know from boxingscene fans what,s the true reason why floyd left boxing????
I can think of theree legit reasons
1) He had hand issues and needed to rest his hands for at leat 1-2 years
2) He made lots of cash off of the De La hoya and Hatton fights
3) He had a big money contract with the WWE and that would be his income for 1 year out of boxing
The 4th reason I have is purely speculation I think he pulled a Sugar Ray Lenoard and hoped for some mega fight to pop up in the next year or two so he could do exactly what he is doing now.....Lefty

great ****in post!! green k!
It was very strange he bailed out of a hot division with cotto, cheato, mosley and williams all looking for fights, only he knows the real reason but its probably fair to say he didnt fancy fighting any of those guys, pity really as we as fans didnt get to see potentially great fights, yeah they would have be hard fights but floyd could have cemented his legacy right there, i thought all those guys were on his hit list when he first came back, but that list seems to have got lost somewhere too, pity
Mr boat buyer shoulda faced Cotto in spring last yr. He was tryin to make a DLH rematch, so Cotto and Marg turned their attention to each other. It was basically an eliminator to determine once n for all who was #1 contender to challenge Mr boat buyer next. When the DLH rematch fell apart, he was outta big $ options. He had to face the Marg-Cotto winner or GTFO. He decided to GTFO.
why on earth would Mayweather, after beating DLH in May of 2007 go fight Cotto who only had 1......................I repeat "1" fight @ WW vs Oktay Urkal in March 2007???:Flush:
go to bed!!!
Cotto beat Quintana on Dec 2006 for the WBA WW Championship in 5rds and then defeated Urkal in March 2007. As you have said, check your facts first before you flap your lips. And why would that matter in the first place if Cotto did only had 1 fight as a WW which clearly he didn't. But yet you would justify Floyd fighting a lightweight that had to get 14lbs fatter and had never fought as JWW before and Floyd came in as a WW, now why is that, care to explain.
:owned:
Delahoya wasn't old until Floyd beat him and you know it.
Do you know how many people thought Oscar was going to ko Floyd ???
If so you also know your talking out of the side of your neck
I was rooting for Mayweather when he beat Oscar. But, even before the fight I knew Osac was old. And, I also thought Oscar was a part time fighter and a full time promoter.
And, I don't know how many people thought Oscar was going to KO Floyd. But, people also thought Oscar was going to KO Pac. But, that doesn't take away from the fact the Oscar was old in that fight too.
There were stories that HBO was putting pressure on Floyd to fight certain fighters which encourged him to retire and brought about accusations that HBO was racist towards him.
Let me tell you this... Oscar De La Hoya urged to make DeLaHoya-Mayweather II after his SPLIT DECISION loss to PBF... But, Mayweather refused it.. He knows he's in great trouble there.. But why not make a PBF-Oscar II?? It was a very close fight. He had his biggest payday and a record breaking PPV buys.. Instead, he retired because the BEST possible opponents at that time for PBF was Margarito and Cotto...
i did NOT want to see that rematch at all....he basically outboxed Oscar easily the first time....
I actually would have loved to see Mayweather with Cotto at that time..but I wouldnt want to see Mayweather or any other fighter fighting with no love for the sport......like RossCa said "if Cotto or Margarito were the best then they would still be on top"......now the Top dogs are Pac & Mosley....2 mega fights that will bring Mayweather $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....and I have no doubt he will fight them.
I believe that Mayweather cares about his bank account more than he cares about his undefeated record...what do u think?
I think Mayweather cares about his undefeated record. Cuz that is his legacy. That is why you always here him talk about this fighter and so has this many losses and I am still undefeated. So I think in his mind his undefeated record is legacy and his image right now. That is why in every fight he talks about it. But, I think you are right. Cuz he is proving right now that he will risk his undefeated record and an elite fighter if the money is right. And, IMO he wants the 40mil more than being undefeated.
Now let me ask you this since we both agree that he is more of businessman now than a fighter. That he cares more about the bank account. And, if he does not have the love and the hunger anymore and is more about the mone. Would that be a disadvantage against Pac? IMO Pac still has the hunger and the love. So if Pac has that state of mind and Floyd has the opposite state of mind. Would Floyd be in a disadvantage in that category of who wants it more?
yea i know that....but he still was retired after the Hatton fight...
let me ask you this JR....
would u fight Oscar for 30 million or fight Cotto for 10?
or maybe raheem, campbell and guzman for how many bucks?:lol1:
