Not to take away from Martinez(Cintron D, Margarito L) cuz hes clearly improving
He might want to abandon anything above 154
Most feared 6 footer at welterweight = Food for counterpunchers
getting knocked down in the first, cut up and brusied when you are hyped as a fighter who can whoop anyone from 147 to 175....yes he was a bit exposed as just being a good, tough fighter. not the pound per pound monster like he was being held up to be.
His fans have been brought back down to earth, for sure. But exposed? That bloody word gets flung around too much. Martinez is an excellent fighter, and before the fight a lot of people were predicting Williams to have trouble with him. He did, but he also won (albeit controversially). Even if the the gameplan to beat Williams has been laid, who the hell is going to have the skill, stamina and movement of Martinez to exploit it? Let's just hope there's a rematch, without that knobend of a judge this time...
I don’t know about the exposing part but I just know that southpaws and right hooks are his kryptonite and Quintana proved that first and Martinez just capitalized on it. I still think Martinez should have gotten the nod but oh well that’s boxing.
Peace.

i dont know if exposed is the right word, but he is extremely beatable.he cant deal with movement at all, which really lowers his punch output and he hasnt a clue how to defend himself
i dont think it has much to do with the south paw.. so i think that might be our difference of opinion.. i Believe he would suffer the same fate against any patient counterpuncher with grit..
I think that the Mike Tyson fear affect is gone..
Even if he KOs Martinez in a rematch.. I think he will find it easer to find game opponents real soon
Exposed? Name another slick counterpunching southpaw like Martinez(He already fought Quintana twice). How is it exposed when you beat the top fighter in his division? How in the high hell is it getting exposed when you beat a guy whose only loss is to a cheater??? Paul Williams just proved yesterday that he can take a punch and can adapt. If anything was exposed in this thread it's the OP's lack of intelligence.
If PWill lost then cotto lost to clottey. pwill won that a close fight yall against another A level fighter. get over it. i know who did get exposed. Juanma against mtgawa. juanma got exposed big time against a guy with 13 losses. lol!!!
So me not considering Martinez an elite fighter is me being a douche bag.. yea great
154 is not an elite division to begin with at the current moment... and they fought at middleweight regardless
what on Martinezs record says elite fighter?
All im saying is Quintanna aint elite imo.. and neither is Martinez imo
Which sounds like a small ordered for the Most Feared man in boxing.. which i think is a worst statement to make for a 6'1 welter wieght(equivalent of Wilt Chambers in his hey day) then a fan (i like Pwill) to point out the obvious
and if your intent on banning someone.. y dont excercise your granted authority to the judge of the fight that completely blew it.. if your arm reaches that far if not grab the popcorn its closer.
Winning a close decision against a very good fighter means exposed?
I guess so to these folks around here lol, if you dont win by a KO or blowout you've been exposed... Martinez is a hell of a fighter so getting a decision over him just shows what great skills you have now if he fought a bum and barely got passed him then we can say hes been exposed...
@ Larry X
Sorry if i offended you..
People are exposed and overated everyday.. Its not a death sentence..It more like formal notificationg that a fighter definately needs some improvements
People are overated and underated everyday.. Its called betting Odds.. Commentary is purely meant for us speculative types..
Its not exactly mudslinging...
The only thing that fight exposed was the fact that both Williams and Martinez are excellent fighters with much heart and toughness. I can't for the life of me understand how Williams was exposed - Against one of the best fighter's out there in Martinez.
IF .... IF Martinez was a BUM, I would say yes, Williams was exposed. But winning a decision against one of the best isn't being exposed at all.
What kind of logic is that ????????????
****
If you ask me ..... This thread is being exposed as silly.
Not arguing at you but..
Martinez is a good tough opponent no doubt...
Nothing about his record say Elite fighter.. Tough professioanal Yes.
And yes of course Quintanna Exposed him.. Martinez confirmed
Dont get it twisted i actually find Paul Williams enertaining to watch.. Watching his 6'1 frame leave its towering volume punching long limbed shadow over the welterweight division is entertaining but as far as upward growth ..

nah he wasn't exposed. He just fought a good fighter and maybe has to work on fighting other southpaws
Williams flaws have always been apparent, he would only be exposed if you knew nothing about what to look for.
It was a tough close fight with rounds that could go either way and Martinez is a damn good fighter. I like when a fighter gets in a tough hard fight and does not wilt to me that makes a fighter look much better win or lose.
Martinez could have won and he did look good, but to me it was a case of both men fighting well and rising to the occasion rather then a guy getting exposed~.

Martinez is one of the best fighters in the world. He's a world champion, not a prospect so the "still improving" doesn't cut it. In case you missed it, Martinez kicked Cintrons ass. That fight was a "draw" in name only. And those who say that Paul Williams was somehow "exposed" are full of it. He won a tough fight against one of the best fighters in the world with a difficult style. Martinez would beat most fighters at 154 and 160 including Kelly Pavlik. Speaking of Pavlik, if anybody was exposed it was Pavlik for pulling out on Williams twice and continuing to defend his belt against second rate fighters only.
Why must someone be exposed in a fight. Aren't there just great fights anymore?
Also, Martinez is a top level fighter, so losing to him is not a bad thing.
You are correct mate. For this reason, we can't say Martinez exposed Williams' vulnerability. He simply capitalized on it. It was Carlos who exposed it. Williams is still a good fighter, but not the monster many lads on here make him out to be.
Agreed. tenletters
