Right now the top WWs are shorter right now then they have been historically in the past. You have Cotto @ 5'7, Clottey @ 5'8, and Berto @ 5'8. And you also have fighters at those same heights fighting at lower weight classes like Juanma Lopez and Chris John. The average welter historically has has been the size of Cintron, Margarito, De La Hoya, Trinidad, Hearns, Forrest. Since there has been a history of 6 foot welters I don't understand how its a shock or a big deal there is one that happens to be a couple inches over the norm. but WW has the most variants in height disparity between fighters. But from 147/54 to 200 everyone is generally from 5'10-6'2.
This shiet redicolous he needs to fight someone his own size by that i meant his own height- stop picking on this short dudes makes you look bad.
so you admit that cotto would get mollywopped by williams?

You're right. This is total nonsense. If a fighter can make the weight, it is fair game, regardless of height and reach. Guys like Tyson and Whitaker were short for their weight classes, but they knew how to use there shortness to their advantage and dominate much taller fighters, just like Williams using his height to dominate shorter guys.
Like many others here, if he can make weight, then he can compete...furthermore, Paul Williams has been picking on alot of fighters. Is/was pavlik a smaller guy? Was Winky Wright a smaller guy?
I hope Williams continues to challenge anyone and everyone out there...it's going ot be a good fight tonight...both guys (Pwill and Martinez) deserve the respect.

If you can make the weight then you belong there.
agree but this goes both ways. The way PW fanboys and Kellerman try to turn him into superman for fighting at 154 or 160 is ridiculous. Especially since he's still bigger than most at those weights.
LOL, Tyson wasn't 5' 8".
Well, he was at one point in his life, but...
Nah i met Tyson, he's really only 5'3. The rest is just for promotional purposes.
Celestino Caballero, Diego Corrales, Felix Trinidad, Roy Jones Jr, and Mike Tyson are all the same height at 5'11" each.
Celestino Caballero: Super Bantamweight
Diego Corrales: A career Super Featherweight-Lightweight
Felix Trinidad: A career Welterweight-Junior Middleweight
Roy Jones Jr: I would say 168 but can make a case for 175
Mike Tyson: A career Heavyweight
These guys are all the same height and had completely different natural weight classes. Only thing people have against Paul fighting in the lower weights is that he's tall but look at 5 fighters I just mentioned who are all the same height and fought in different weight classes, lower and higher.
Good post. If you can make weight their shouldn't be any problems. Mike was small for a heavyweight and was knocking guys outcold twice the size of him! Wlad/Vitali are big guys and almost always have the size and height advantage over their opponents!
2 More questions:
Since Tyson was 5-8 should he have fought at Welter?
Whats the limit on how much weight you can put on overnight?
Thats all.
LOL, Tyson wasn't 5' 8".
Well, he was at one point in his life, but...
So height is part of each weight division now?
He's much taller, but that does mean he's really skinny compared to the others. Is that unfair too? The other fighters should fight somebody their own width?
That is even a better question.
